Gotta kick this off with this juicy news from "the Gridiron Newsstand"...  It seems as though the possibility of the 49ers' releasing Garcia is pretty high.  Here are all the corroborative LOCAL reports:

http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/sports/football/nfl/san_franc isco_49ers/7988776.htm;

http://www.contracostatimes.com/mld/cctimes/sports/columnists/gary_peter son/8019002.htm;

http://www.sacbee.com/content/sports/football/sf_49ers/story/8286840p-92 17323c.html.

WOW , huh?

I am very interested to see where Hearst goes.(I just traded for him as a handcuff for Barlow)

I think he can still be a solid running back.  His yards per carry is still very impressive.  If the Cowboys don't land Staley, I see them going after Hearst.  The other obvious team who could use him as mentioned somewhere else is Detroit.  With Mooch and Rathman there.

Well, as for QB Jeff Garcia, "The REAL Feed" is showing the following:

49ers to decide QB Garcia's fate on Monday
ESPN: NFL (01.03.2004 14:26)

From the LOCAL reports on "the Gridiron Newsstand", sounds like he might be one foot out the door. Here they ALL are:

HERE it is, HOT off "the Gridiron Newsstand" by way of ESPN.com...

The 49ers officially notified quarterback Jeff Garcia on Monday night that he will be placed on waivers Tuesday, ESPN.com has learned.  Garcia's release will come before Tuesday 4 p.m. ET deadline for all teams to be in compliance with the NFL's $80.6 million cap ceiling.

Here is a link to the whole piece:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1748872.

WOW!  This is HUGE news for Garcia owners and FANTABULOUSLY SCRUMTRULESCENT news for Rattay owners... like yours truly (in the GBRFL).

I knew Stegey would be the 1st guys to post this. This is great news for Rattay and Bolding owners.
I said before that maybe TO nkew that him not voiding his yrs would foece them to let Garcia go. HA!!!
That really had nothing to do with it...or did it?
Anyway look for Garcia to go south to ZONA baby. Boldin will finally have a good QB to throw to him.

It sucks if you are a Garcia owner.
It is the smarter choice for SF. they need youth and need to make this Erickson's team with his stamp. Lets hope the keep Streets somehow.
I said it before too. One more idea: TO get traded to OAK for Rice and picks.

I DIGRESS...
    Welll....I am not so sure that Garcia will go to Arizona.  You act like it is a done deal.  Not even close!!!  Many teams need a QB.  My money is on Cleveland since Policy is so familar with the 49ers organzation.

I too have T.O. in the GBRFL and believe it or not, kc, I now hope with the departure of Garcia that T.O. stays put. I think they are going to be hawkin' it up in San Fran A LOT next year and I, deep-down, think T.O. wants to stay.  As taterhog suggests in his thread "between the 20's", his missing his opportunity to become a free-agent might have had something to do with his wanting to see what was going to happen with Garcia first (all the rest was just rhetoric).  Now that he is gone...  T.O. has been quoted as being a supporter of Tim Rattay.

Indemnification Clause:  I do also have Rattay.

Hmmm. Maybe there is smarter than we all thought like I said on another thread. Ya never know.
I have T.O in only 1 league. I would like to get him in some other leagues too. He is getting old, but is still a good player.
I hope he plays for a team too that will throw him the ball.
I read the same article Stegey. He may be saying all that just to get Garica booted like I said in another article. I doubt it. I think SF was kinda hoping to part ways with Garcia or TO. TO won this battle and Rattay is the big wiener.

I like kidcrash's take.  And now TO is getting backing from Upshaw to get to FA, and he says he never got proper notification from the league that his deadline changed.  (Like I said in another thread, his contract said March 2nd was the deadline, the new deal with the players turned the deadline into Feb. 21.)

The rumors today talk a lot about the Eagles looking his way, even after signing Kearse they still have the cap room.  TO mentioned them as a favorite target of his earlier.  Might not help Kid as much with a QB/RB, but then again with the WR corps in Philly, what else could he do?

Then again...the Raiders may be looking for a stud WR this year....I just keep thinking............Gannon's staying..........

From "the Gridiron Newsstand", QB Tim Rattay goes down with a SERIOUS upper groin injury that may require surgery:

http://www.sf49ers.com/newsroom/DisplayNews.asp?NewsID=1818;

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2004/football/nfl/05/08/bc.fbn.49ers.ra ttayinju.ap/index.html.

Here's what just popped up on "The REAL Feed":

Niners' Rattay tears groin
The Sports Network: NFL (08.05.2004 01:07)

Granted, it is very early in the going, but this is not what fantasy owners with Rattay in keeper leagues really want to hear (like me in the GBRFL).  You need this guy to at least make an appearance in a couple preseason games.  I guess you could spin it this way... because of this, he will be less likely to sustain a (more) devastating season-ending injury during training camp and/or preseason.

This sucks for Rattay. He has some skills and could be a solid QB. Injuries are something that happen though. I hope he pulls through it fine.

Who is laughing now S.F. I bet it is Garcia. They never should have let him go, but $ and his injury issues it was a sensible choice...well, T.O. kinda forced their hand a little too, based on the $ aspect.

Good luck Rattay. I would go for the surgery and just get it over with. Kinda like Michael Bennett last year. He took the surgery and will have a better long term career because of it.

Sure changes the mix on QBs getting released on June 1st or before.

Wonder if Warner or Collins will be starting in SF instead of teaching Eli or backing up/replacing Gannon.....

And what of Couch....

And something on a very positive note from my number one 9ers fan:

The 49er coaching staff is pleased about the return of Jamie Winborn. Winborn has been cleared to participate in drills this weekend, marking his first return to the field since injuring his neck and undergoing surgery to fuse vertebrae.

A three-year veteran, Winborn posted 61 tackles and three sacks in nine games last season before being placed on injured reserve November 15 and undergoing surgery.

They said it was very unlikely that he would ever play again but he vowed to play again.

Looks like the 49ers and Rattay followed your advice, DOLFAN!  From the top of "The REAL Feed":

49ers' Rattay to have surgery on torn groin
The Sports Network: NFL (08.05.2004 19:58)

There isn't much else coming out about it all except the AP report.  Here it is from the "officialist" of official sources available on "the Gridiron Newsstand":

Gannon is not going anywhere. If that were the case then they would have dumped him already and signed Collins.
The only guy on SF that i would want on my team is Barlow as a #3 RB. They lost the starting QB, RB, WR and 2 OL guys too. They are in shambles now with their QB under the knife.
AVOID THIS TEAM LIKE THE FAT LADY AT THE BAR FOR LAST CALL. You will thank me in the morning.
