| I assume that you are trying to say that the Eagles are the only NFC East team not to win a Super Bowl. I'll also assume that you're trying to intimate that the Eagles window has passed, as in closed. That's where we'll disagree. As I explained in another thread, the Eagles are a much improved team from last year. Their QB is back and is 100% and has even dropped some of his bulk (which I feel has limited his escapability and throwing some). The WR situation, while not ideal, is better than it was pre-Terrell Owens, when they were going to the NFC Championship game every year (albeit in a weaker division). Brian Westbrook is still a dangerous back and Ryan Moats has a year experience under his belt now. Correll Buckhalter is an effective big back and is healthy now (as is Thomas Tapeh, who the Eagles staff is very high on). The TEs are as good a pass-catching duo as there is in the league. The offensive line is solid and has some exciting young talent being infused now. The defensive line is getting younger and more athletic and the new defensive line coach has a tremendous track record. The secondary is as solid as any in the league. The only questions are linebacker (which is better than a year ago) and special teams. This doesn't appear to me to be a team whose window has closed at all.

| I agree that the Eagles have to put opponents away. They've come out and said as much. When the Eagles went up 24-7, in such a dominating fashion, I don't know that there were too many people who thought that the Giants had a shot to come back -- including the Eagles, who clearly let up. If you felt good about the Giants chances after three quarters, then you're either lying to yourself or flat-out delusional. The Eagles are not known for building leads and giving them away... it's not their modus operandi, so I don't see this as a long-term problem. The Eagles are still, clearly, the best team in this division - regardless of how they played in the 4th quarter. And yes, I stick by my assessment of the Giants offensive line. It was rather offensive (emphasis on the second syllable). As for Tiki. He's made a habit of taking the Eagles apart and he just didn't have his stuff today. My calling him overrated was just a bit of trash-talking. Something you clearly were inviting by starting this thread and posting in it at the conclusion of the game. If you can't take it, then don't come in.

Toomer and Burress also had over 100 yards recieving each. If I read between the lines it seems that the Eagles were intent on taking Tiki away. I definatly dont think future hall of fame running back Tiki Barber is overrated. I do however agree with Philster that even though that one was won by the Giants, the Eagles are presently the better team in that closely contested divison. Just like last season I thought the Steelers were better than the Bengals, even though they lost the division. |
| As I already admitted... I was being a bit facetious with the comments about Tiki being overrated. But Tiki did nothing during the first three quarters of the game. The Eagles game-planned to take him away and did so, effectively. They were also getting a great pass rush, so Eli couldn't find his receivers. The Eagles lost a CB (their nickel back, who was starting for the injured Lito Sheppard) at the end of the first half and had to switch their coverage scheme some and didn't blitz as much in the second half. Ultimately, what it came down to was that the Eagles though the game was over at 24-7 and shut it down mentally -- they weren't able to turn it back on at that point.

Did you watch last week's Giants-Colts game Jeff? The Giants and Tiki ran wild. The O-line did agreat job. Freeney and the Colts had no sacks. Granted the Eagles defense is much better that Indy's, but let's just chalk it up to the o line having a collective off day. We'll see how they fare next week against Seattle. If they falter again, then I may be a bit concerned. As far as posting in this thread, I could have gone off on a Steg-like tantrum and gloated, but I chose not too. Then you chime in, fresh off your whaaaaamabulance ride I guess, and start calling one of the best running backs in the league overrated? You guys wish you had a back that good. Then maybe you can close the deal and win a few more games nursing a 17 point 4th quarter lead. You sure did pound Eli all day, but when it came down to it, he came through. Nuff said.

We'll see at the end of the season. I see the Redskins already fading, Dallas will implode with Bledslow at QB, so I think it will come down to the Giants or Eagles now. When the dust clears, big blue will stand tall. on Sep 18th, 2006, 8:56am, steelkings wrote: Now take this with a grain of salt.
