Just thought I would share something special with you guys, especially some of you old-old-timers, who go back to the GBRFL's predecessor, ASG's Mark Malone League ('89-'92).  Yesterday I spoke with one of the originals, Gavin Decapua.  He is a DIE-HARD Seahawks fan, and, though the last time I bumped into him was a decade ago after getting a haircut at Monmouth Mall (from old Ivan -- remember him, DB?) and the last time I had any regular contact with him dates back to the early 90's (I think he was only in the league for a season or two), he is a great guy and I made it a point to look his butt up on the internet.  Indeed, this is the good side of the net.

Anyway, after setting my alarm for 1:00 a.m. yesterday and a funny conversation with his wife, who of course I do not know at all, at around 6:00 a.m. (EST), I was talking to this old friend on his cell as he was on his way into work (in Toms River -- He is a Tech teacher at Toms River Intermediate East, Frank.  Is that you guys?).  What a great moment it was!  He said that he too had thought of me because of the Broncos.  He and his son, a student at VA Tech, are actually going to the game!  He said however it turns out it will be a great day.  We wished each other good luck and shared some quick catch-up items in what amounted to about a 10-15-minute conversation.  In the years between, his father, who was an all-around great guy and good to me around the time of my father's passing (in 1987), had passed.  Other than that, of course, it was a great conversation, indeed, moving.  He said it made his day.  Well, his picking up made mine!  Here is a photo of Gavin that got him in the newspaper all the way across the country:  http://seattletimes.com/ABPub/zoom/html/2002536077.html.

That's all...  Here is to a great Super Bowl game... and a Broncos win!!!

No, I don't know him. Was he your year? There was a DiCapua family that lived not to far from me (was his father a principal?) If so, my parents know them. I bet he had a good time at the game. And I got my haircut at the old Seaview not at Monmouth so I don't know Ivan either.

Alas, grades are in for spring semester.  I do not have a summer session one class to teach!  I am FREE at last!  Gotta get on the dissertation (of which I am on Chapter 2) in earnest, but schedule is wide-open, TOTALLY for the next six/seven weeks and for the most part for the next thirteen/fourteen weeks!  I am ready for some football... despite some big hits my team has taken over the offseason (which may have me in a position to deal,... at least a protection spot). Anyway, regarding the league, I will not open up anything "official" at the moment, but let's start getting our eyes back on the ball here... Over and out...

If I could commentate on where I see this headed... Steve, who now would need at least a COUPLE extra protection spots to keep the very keeper-worthy players he has, is trying to cut a deal for a top-notch quarterback, which is the one position at which he is not totally solid (besides defense), with a team that has the protection space available to make an uneven 2-for-1 or even 3-for-1 deal (that is, without needing any pro spots from Steve). Feder's team with Drew Brees fits that bill to a tee... Just sayin'... I think another HUGE deal involving Warner is in the works...

So, the league now has 218 cumulative years of experience! And, there are some particularly notable personal benchmarks this year: Joe and Steve are both respectively in their 20th year playing fantasy football, Frank is in his 25th year, dating back to the predecessor to the GBRFL, the old Mark Malone League, and Trout, the eldest statesman in terms of years played, is in his 30th year of fantasy football!  Congrats, guys!

Check it all out on the "History" page at the GBRFL league web site!

In all seriousness, there is nothing like kicking off the season with a John Kuhn rushing touchdown, is there?

Wholly shit-  I started Desean Jackson and Knowshown Moreno against Steg this week just because he traded them to me.

My reward, both of them out of the game within 5 minutes of each other.

What a debacle......might as well just hand the victory to Steg.

Well, with Palmer out, you are getting Fitz from me, and he is going to give one of us "fits".  I just hope it is not me... getting "fits", too!
