Just viewed last year's draft.  As good as Cam Newton was at 1.9 (Pak) and DeMarco Murray at 3.1 (Joe P.), the best pick was Gronkowski at 9.5 (Bongo Soul).

Heyas, guys...  I would like to pose a sort of wrap-up survey question...  I would like for the moment for us to FOCUS on the timing (and not the method -- we can do that next) of this year's Draft...  We have NEVER (really even come close to having) done the Draft as late as we did this year (August 20th-ish is about as late as I can kind of recall).  How did you guys like it???  As you go to submit your Week 1 lineups, what do you think???

The later the better for me, no question!! I even liked the online draft but missed busting balls with everyone's picks like Rasheed Jennings going in the first round, what a mess that was.

IMO...I think we could have knocked it out Friday night if we would have committed to it. I like it week 2-3 preseason, like we have done in the past.

I loved that pick!!!! I helped me get Weeden. It wasn't a mess for me. I did miss out on Hillman and Wright though, but would rather have the starting QB.

I think if someone reviewed all 287 of Danny's posts on the Gridiron, just about half of them would have been identical to this last one.

That is funny. True. And Funny.

I do like that the draft was later than usual - removes all surprises and takes away the luck factor of having the first free agent position. Having said that, I also don't mind the early time of our typical draft, as we end up playing with fire a bit since we don't know cuts, injuries, etc. Plus, it gets me into the fantasy mode earlier and extends the season a bit when we draft early August.

All and all, I would probably lean towards a "closer to the opening" draft if I was forced to choose.

I am far from convinced that Ogletree will have any fantasy relevance this year.  I think it much more likely that this is just a blip on his fantasy radar screen, and that we won't hear from him much, if at all, again this year.

Guess that's why they play the games Trav. Not sure what your basing your "hunch" on regarding Ogletree being a "blip". The only issue with that theory, is the number of targets he had (13...I think) and the health issues of Austin and Witten. Time will tell...

Holy shit! I thought Trout just shows up for the draft " almost missed it this year" and disappears rest of the season. Wow, it's good to hear from him.

My hunch is based on my having heard a lot about Ogletree through the Dallas media the past 4 years. More specifically it is based on the fact that Ogletree has done nothing in his previous 3 seasons with the Cowboys; that he had one good training camp, after which Dallasites were looking forward to his emergence but which was followed by a dud of a regular season; and that it has taken injuries to the top 2 targets to get Ogletree some face time. I'm just saying I really don't think it'll last. Witten will be healthy soon, as will Austin, and Ogletree will be 4th in the pecking order, at best.

Originally I posted that message because I thought both that it was true and that it would cheer Joe up, but now that it's been called into question, I'm going all-in on this prediction!

This itself and the sharing of this are interesting,... nay,... intriguing, for sure.  However, not knowing the not insignificant differences in the format you guys are using (not that this is the apropos place to get into that -- it surely is NOT, and I am not inviting it), it is hard to tell the meaning and value of it given the disconnect, that is, beyond the sharing itself.  That said, the aspect of just sharing is NOT unimportant.  Indeed, what does it indicate?  At the very least, a connection, a lost connection. This, and other posts that have been made on "the Gridiron" by Deucers about Deuce-league goings-on, would have more relevance (indeed, would reclaim their status) here and better fulfill (what I believe/hope to be) the trajectory of the gestures IF the Deuce League brought just their league message board back to "the Gridiron"...  That can be made to happen in a moment's notice.  I would put (a new board for) the Deuce League in the "Featured Leagues" section.  Participation outside of the "Deuce League" board would not be expected of the Deucers, nor would I expect to infuse myself on the "Deuce League" board.  Whatever naturally unfolds over time, naturally unfolds over time...

Well, hash it out!  Let me know...  (This could happen as soon as tonight, with your and our waking up to a new beginning on "the Gridiron" on, of all days, "Kickoff Sunday".)

Anyway, all of that having been said, nice to see Jim still has his annual stronghold on the top pick. ...

This is not to you specifically, Jeff, or even every single guy in the Deuce League, and I am not saying that I do not remain "open" or that being on this web site necessarily has any value (although I do have a track record of,... well,... bigger picture...).  BUT, the gift horse (with the olive branch) can only be looked in the mouth so many times...
