I was just going to make this thread when Stevo posted this,... a kind of post which will henceforth be much more apropos here (it will be interesting to see how well ADS Dr. Danny deals with this ::))...

OHHH YEAH!! Picking up just where I left off. I play Trout next week so I know at worst I'll start 3-1.

Good luck moron. What's the going rate to have someone spell out your mindless thoughts? By the way, I just READ the rules and scoring page for you. You can start more than one RB. Oh shit...you only have one. Damn. Let me know the wager for next week.

Too early in season for Trout to disappear I guess. When he gets 10 games back that is when we don't hear from him, so that's week 5?  Last week I had one RB and I was fine, can't be loaded up everywhere. I only need one when it's foster if you have not noticed.

[offtopic]Fellas, DR. Dan, these last few posts are "trash talk" for the "Trash Talk Thread": http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=53;action=display;num=1161532729;start=375.  I started this thread as a sort of, on the one hand, lamentations, self-deprecation, personal bitch-session thread (like the post of Warner's that I quoted over in the initial post) and, on the other, a thread for pronouncements of a general nature about your team (like my post above).  In other words, stuff that is not really trash talk.  Take the fight [smiley=boxer.gif] over to the "Trash Talk Thread", please.  And, indeed, PLEASE do so! ;D

(I knew Feder was not going to understand this...) [smiley=shootmyself.gif] ... [smiley=frustrated.gif] ... [smiley=gimmeabreak.gif][/offtopic]

I'm not sure if you're referring to putting the quote in the "just talk" thread or the phrase itself. What the hell is a "friendly"?? Sounds like Pak trying to talk Koreanese.

Well, that was Trout and the original pre-GBRFL Mark Malone League, which lasted just two years (1989-1990) and was followed by the Bob Griese League, which lasted just two years as well (1991-1992) and mixed in the handful of leftovers from the MML along with some other "rotisserie footballers" from the company through which we were running, the Armchair Sports Group (ASG).  A few of us are left: Trout, Gonzo, DB and myself.  Trout was even playing a year before me (so next year I will be at the quarter century-mark). [smiley=awwgee.gif] [smiley=wiseman.gif]

The GBRFL was founded in 1993.  That means we are currently in our 20th season!!! [smiley=cheers.gif]

So I screwed up 1 line up.(maybe 2)  Considering I have NEVER purposely lost a game, or missed a line up, I consider that forgivable.   :-X

Joe,

First, just to get some of the housekeeping duties out of the way:

I do believe this belongs in the shit talking section, not the "just talk thread". Call me crazy, but I do think there is a twinge of sarcasm/"told you so" in your post and therefore it should be viewed as such.

Second, go fuck yourself. If you thank me one more time for not taking that deal, I will personally drive to your home and rip that dolphin out of your triple-pierced left ear. Not that having a triple-pierced ear is weird or anything.

Third, I am very confident this post should be in the shit-talking section. I ask administrators here to move this as to not disrupt the flow of previous conversations or Joe's period.

Oooooh!!! Someone rattled the Rosenhaus cage!!!

I'm not sure where i stand on this. I didn't get the same sense of sarcasm out of Joe's thank you. Joe has always seemed like a straight shooting, stand up kind of guy, who would earnestly thank someone if he felt that he/she deserved it, which obviously is warranted in this particular situation.

Or we could just start a sarcasm only thread.

Here is a problem with not being able to change line ups with the Thursday game. I am playing Julio Jones and with this potential storm I would probably want to play Lance Moore instead, too early to tell but an issue.

Title: Re: The... Just Talk Thread
Post by DOLFAN on Oct 26th, 2012, 6:47pm
I hear ya Danny, and there are many more issues than that. We all just have not brought them up and/or accept them. I have seen some things too, but just minor things/injuries-really.

About the storm:  Most of the east coast will get hit with this "SUPER STORM" Wash D.C. is supposed to get 10-12" of rain over the weekend, couple that with very high winds.
Rare exception, but it happens, It will always be something, minor or not.

Not hearing any word of the game in Philly being in danger of cancellation at this point Danny. On an a similar note regarding "Frankenstorm" ( no pun intended Gonzo). My family and I had the pleasure of a visit from Sandy Wednesday during our " vacation" in Jamaica. We enjoyed her hospitality immensely and are reacquainting again in thr Philly area on Monday.
On a serious note, I hope and pray for the safety of all of my fellow comrades and their families in the coming days. In particular Frank and Dave in Jersey as they might see he brunt of the storm. Take care and be safe!

We made it through safe and sound as well. Easily the worst storm I have ever seen. We lost 2 trees, but no major issues for us.
We lost power last night 45 degrees outside and am now at my brothers house. We may have to spend the night. He only lives 10 minutes from me, so no real issue.

You will talk to MAMA Steg soon I'm sure. Stay safe everyone.

Power is really scarce all through NJ Steve. It may even be another day or two before it comes back. And with long term loss of power comes loss of cell towers. Cell service is very spotty as well. Hopefully mom gets her power back soon.
We're luck enough to have power so we've become the local motel. 6 folks staying with us tonight.

Once again, very, very lucky.

I don't want to hear it, my season blows as well. Lets start with all the injuries, Hakeem Nicks, Austin, Julio Jones, Fred Jackson, Bennie Wells for much of the season. I love playing against the no name scrub who puts up crazy numbers as their 4th and 5th don't catch balls. The biggest killer for me has been all the career days each player and or df has had against me. Schaubb, Romo both 500 yards, Dfs Tds against me every week, ect. It's been rough to say the least. I'm just trying to get out of the lottery so Frank doesn't get that pick with that trade, I never thought it would be an issue. A least I won it last year so I can't be too mad

Heyas, Guys, quick update... since I have received some messages and have not been back in touch.  The Stegemans are in the throws of yet another move (it never seems to end, does it?).  We are not leaving Hawaii, just switching up digs.  The place we dove into a little over a year ago was just no longer suitable.  In very short, we are upgrading! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]  In the meantime, midterm time is arriving and so is "letter of rec" time about which, after my first full year, I am learning the "thanks" one gets for being a popular, yet tough, demanding prof (less than 20% A's; more than 40% D's or F's [smiley=ohshit.gif]), that being a ton of students asking to write one for them. [smiley=howtoput.gif] Oh, and I am at a high point in the dissertation process, the impending defense of my prospectus.  Anyway, back to GBRFL matters, I am not ignoring messages, no less rebuffing offers.  I will be back in touch.  I am just running on fumes at the moment.  Alright, out... Gents, it seems to me that this year in particular there are a bunch of strong GBRFL teams, teams with solid starters at all three offensive positions.  This observation led me to create the First Annual Rave's "Power-Rankings-Cum-Snide-Remarks."

Stacked and Jacked

Empty Backfield: Best qbs and rcs of anybody.  Period.  Romo is his backup.  Or Cutler.  'Nuff said.  Needs some help at rb -- "Empty Backfield," indeed -- but that might not matter.  Also, he's got a roster spot saved for Tim Tebow [smiley=loser.gif]; he's just toying with us at this point.  Like a billionaire using C's for firewood.[smiley=money.gif]

Russell's Muscles: 4 of the top 10 running backs, solid qbs, and solid rcs.  Somehow he has 5 starting NFL qbs; however, two of them should never come close to starting for him (Locker and Smith), a third is, at this point, a serious wildcard (Freeman), and a fourth -- Bradford -- has yet to prove himself.  Interestingly, he's got quite a few basket-case rcs: Blackmon, Johnson, and Britt.[smiley=doh.gif] Good news for him is that it's quite possible none of them will start for him.  Most importantly, though, Dave took the Broncos D/ST with the 2.1 and the Rams D/ST with the 2.6.  It's bad enough to take a defense at the 2.1; it's worse to take ANOTHER defense at the 2.6; it's an abomination to use two second round-picks on defenses that very well may end up not being top-10.  You would have thought the 2.1 and 2.6 were his last picks in the draft.

Coming up . . . the second tier, with a pre-emptive reply to what is undoubtedly forthcoming, viz., protests from Blind Squirrels Fiddling Around with William's Light-Sabers and from BushWhackers that they, too, are stacked & jacked.

And ... [smiley=impatient.gif]

Not-Quite-Delusional Hopes of Grandeur

BushWhackers: All-around solid starting lineup, with pretty respectable depth.  No one player there, however, is top-5 at their position.  Sorry, Victor Cruz won't always have days like Sunday night, and he won't end up top-5 at RC.  Furthermore, if Week 1 is any indication -- which is indeed a dangerous premise -- Schaub, Vick, and Tannehill are going to have a hard time keeping up with Romo/Rodgers/Cutler (Hahn), Luck/E. Manning (Trout), P. Manning/Palmer (Steg), and Brady/Stafford (Parsons).  In addition, Richardson/Lacy/Gore/Bush will struggle to produce sufficient yards and tds.  All this being said, though, week 1 has taught us like no other week that I can remember that rb is a complete crapshoot.  (On this note, how in the heck did Martin, Rice, Spiller, and MJD have absolutely horrific running stats the same week?  And, yes, I have 3 of those guys.)  More importantly, given our league format, you can in fact lack a true stud, be solid up and down your lineup, and still win.  So, all in all, no one has a better shot at beating our "Stacked & Jacked" teams than Warner's bunch.

ALL KAEP'S: Notwithstanding a horrific week 1 (wasting Kaep's huge day), this is a respectable lineup -- second only to Russell's Muscles at rb, with a solid stable of rcs -- but will have to lean on Alex Smith or EJ Manuel to get by at 2nd qb.  That's probably not going to cut it many weeks.  You would think the combination of Amendola/Boldin/Wallace/Davis might constitute an envious 2-5 rc corps, but injuries (Amendola) and diva complexes (Wallace) threaten to derail that plan.  Solid, with an outside shot to take down the big boys, but problems loom.

Blind Squirrels Fiddling Around with William's Light Sabers: The only identifiable weakness here is rb -- Murray will, if history is any indication, not get a whole lot of carries (blame Jason Garrett), assuming he even stays healthy; Miller is relatively untested as a primary ball-carrier; and we all know the travails of Ryan Mathews.  Morris should be fine, but there are question marks with the others.  Strong at qb -- and Norv Turner can only help Weeden's stats.  I'd bet that one or perhaps two of the 3-7 receivers on this roster will become a consistent contributor.  With the She-hawks for a defense, the hopes for grandeur aren't exactly delusional; but much will have to go right with the running backs.

I enjoy reading these little summaries.  You have to be careful about providing locker room material as well as upsetting some of our more sensitive owners.

Don't see how Not Just Luck doesn't make the last group.  He has a decent starting lineup for once.

Since we have an entire thread called "Trash Talk," I figure our owners better not be sensitive.  One of the joys of fantasy football is talking trash, no? 8-)

Locker room material?  That only exists where someone's physically playing a game.  If I make my next week's opponent really angry at me, it won't improve his lineup submission.

Explanation forthcoming.  While you wait, I'll give you this nugget: just because the last few years' cellar-dweller has a "decent starting lineup for once" doesn't mean I move him up more than if he hadn't been the cellar-dweller.  No sentimentality here.

Only thing, T., as time is going by here, things and teams are changing rapidly.  My team, for one, has already had a roughly 20% turnover.  That is to say that I have already through two weeks of free-agency cut four players (all draft picks, incidentally) and have acquired four new players.

I surrender.  Trout was right; I completely over-estimated my team.

If 3 weeks are any indication, turns out Kaepernick is a fraud, Doug Martin is mediocre, Spiller is a bust, MJD is toast, A. Johnson can't stay on the field, D. Amendola can't get to the field, and Mike Wallace is a bust.

What was ostensibly a roster with 3 top-16 running backs (and a fourth who was a starter) and with 4 top-30 wide receivers is in fact the following:

Average touchdowns per QB per game: 1.1
Average yards per QB per game: 225

Total RB touchdowns this year: 1
Average yards per RB per game: 62

Total RC touchdowns this year: 0
Average yards per RC per game: 47

Total touchdowns, all positions, through three weeks: 8.  8!!!  That is not a typo.

Peyton Manning in week one had as many touchdowns as my QBs and RCs have had all year.  Peyton Manning in two weeks has had more touchdowns than my entire roster has in three weeks.

This is, without doubt, the worst 3 weeks of fantasy football I've ever seen for one team.  I really did think I had a team that would compete for a plaque; I really did think I had 2 elite RBs, 2 more starting RBs, a competitive QB crew, and a deep and solid set of RCs.

What on earth is going on? ?.?.? ?.?.? ?.?.?

I've been trying to figure out how to explain my winless record; theoretically if you can find the problem you can fix it.  I could just follow Feder and say "your team really sucks, dude."  Scary to say, that may in fact be all there is to it.

The stat that probably most indicates my complete ineptitude is the following.  In our scoring system, not counting the kicker, there are 7 individual offensive categories that are worth at least 3 points if you win them -- QB tds, QB yards, RB yards, RB tds, RB yds/carry, RC yards, RC tds.  None of my starters is in the top-10 in any of those categories.  None.  In any category. :o  This, despite the fact that at least three of my starters were projected as top-10 all-around at their position.

Here's the breakdown.  (Not that anyone is interested, but it will give you a good Monday laugh.)

Kaep: 25th in yds/gm, 16th in tds/gm
Smith: 18th in yds/gm, 12th in tds/gm

Martin: 4th in yds/gm, 34th in yds/carry, 28th in tds
Spiller: 21st in yds/gm, 27th in yds/carry, 28th in tds
MJD: 37th in yds/gm, 43rd in yds/carry, 28th in tds

A. Johnson: 19th in yds/gm, 130th in tds (0 tds total!)
Amendola: (1 good wk, then 3 wks injured, then 1 bad wk)
Boldin: 24th in yds/gm, 26th in tds
Wallace: 59th in yds/gm, 67th in tds

So, either my team is playing near its "floor" level, or none of my starters except Alex Smith should be considered top-20 players at their position.  Perhaps Kaepernick is really a QB3, Spiller an RB3, MJD an RB4,  A. Johnson a WR3, and Wallace a WR7.  If so, I've been the absolute worst judge of fantasy value.  But, hey, at least I called Alex Smith correctly: I just KNEW he was a top-18 QB!!! 8-)

It is hard to win in this league, and to gain multiple championships is even more difficult, only those in the Hall of Fame such as myself can take credit for such a high accomplishment. Guys like Warner, cant figure it out, even though he is on top now, he will finish in third. There is a secret to winning in this league. If you give me your first round pick next year ill break it down.

WE ALL deal with them, Danny.  Actually, your list is not that bad.  I read two season-enders.  I myself had three crushers: two preseason, Danario Alexander and Michael Crabtree, and Brian Hoyer, the week I had him in my lineup, which cost me that game.  We are all managing the two-to-four week dings and suspensions.  An objective analysis of your situation indicates that your situation vis-ŕ-vis injuries and suspensions is not at all special.  Indeed, my situation is not special, either.  ...  Luck, luck, luck... [smiley=pullleeeeeeeze.gif] Eh...  It is about how you respond, and in the case of Julio Jones you responded very well with a fantastic trade for yourself.

Damn, a 6th rounder for a starting QB, Feder?  Nice move, you little bitch.

Guess I got lazy and didn't both to call Trout after I emailed Travis the week Locker got hurt to offer a 2nd rounder for the Fitzpatrick pick and he never wrote back and instead traded the pick for a 4th.  I guess I know better than anyone what it's like to be at the bottom and not give a shit at this point.

Figured Trout would've held the pick this week so I didn't bother.  Guess I am a little bitter especially after that deangelo TD.

i disagree, it is a filler for one week, not a starting back. Josh Freeman probably be back the next week. He doesnt need qbs and since he has not shot in making a run, why not on his part, no sweat off his back.

I didn't get an email from anyone offering a 2nd rounder.  That would indeed have been tasty.  But, sadly, no such offer came through.

By the way, I'm not purposely tanking, if anyone is wondering given the perfect 0-12 record.  I've seen 4, maybe 5 games all year -- YEAR -- because we recently moved and do not have TV at this point.  So on the average Sunday I don't see any games at all.  I have to rely on internet articles for my information.  On top of that, my guys just haven't shown up this year.  Not as if one or two or three have underperformed: all of them have underperformed.  Except Alex Smith, who's just about meeting expectations (not high ones, either).

Besides, tanking is bad strategy.  There's very little chance I'll get the first pick -- given my luck in lotteries -- and even if by some miracle I did I'd undoubtedly make the wrong choice.  I'm not looking forward to having to decide among the possibly many QB rookies next draft.

A 6th-rounder, indeed, is nothing. [smiley=thumbsdown.gif] It is more like what you should get in return for the courtesy compensatory pick back.  However, Ponder could prove to be a liability this week for Danny.  It is not implausible that Danny might be better off having gone with just Brees this week.  I also think that Freeman will get another shot, and that Minnesota is definitely in line to draft one of next year's top-notch quarterback prospects.  All of that having been said, Trout should have gotten more than what is likely to be a late 6th-rounder.  At least a 3rd- or 4th-rounder. [smiley=shrug.gif] But, hey, to his credit, Danny is putting up a fight, wheeling and dealing, and not resting on his laurels! [smiley=yes.gif]

If im going down, im going down swinging!! If i could just get James Jones back healthy, Cutler back for Marshall and still be in it, ill be good. This comes from Rotoworld.com: "[Rashad] Jennings and DeMarco Murray turned out to be the two best running back starts in fantasy on Thanksgiving.  Not because they played particularly well; because they scored multiple TDs.  So goes life in a luck-based pastime."

This is not at all necessarily so in the GBRFL, which is a tribute to our format.  Luck cannot be eliminated from fantasy football, of course, but our league is pretty darn good at mitigating its impact, for sure. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Well, Stevo, some consolation coming your way...  Late as they have been here in recent years (February/March the following year), but what is looking to be a little earlier this year, the 2012 plaques are in the design phase.  It should not be after too long before you can give it a hug and reminisce about your run last year to a plaque.  (With that said, do you not think you have a chance at at least a 2nd or 3rd Place plaque this year?  I mean the standings are tight and, it seems, getting tighter!)

You want to talk about going up against historic days...

Just thought I would share something special with you guys, especially some of you old-old-timers, [smiley=wiseman.gif] who go back to the GBRFL's predecessor, ASG's Mark Malone League ('89-'92).  Yesterday I spoke [smiley=phone.gif] with one of the originals, Gavin Decapua.  He is a DIE-HARD Seahawks fan, and, though the last time I bumped into him was a decade ago after getting a haircut at Monmouth Mall (from old Ivan -- remember him, DB?) and the last time I had any regular contact with him dates back to the early 90's (I think he was only in the league for a season or two), he is a great guy and I made it a point to look his butt up on the internet.  Indeed, this is the good side of the net.

Anyway, after setting my alarm for 1:00 a.m. yesterday and a funny conversation with his wife, who of course I do not know at all, at around 6:00 a.m. (EST), I was talking to this old friend on his cell as he was on his way into work (in Toms River -- He is a Tech teacher at Toms River Intermediate East, Frank.  Is that you guys?).  What a great moment it was!  He said that he too had thought of me because of the Broncos.  He and his son, a student at VA Tech, are actually going to the game!  He said however it turns out it will be a great day.  We wished each other good luck and shared some quick catch-up items in what amounted to about a 10-15-minute conversation.  In the years between, his father, who was an all-around great guy and good to me around the time of my father's passing (in 1987), had passed.  Other than that, of course, it was a great conversation, indeed, moving.  He said it made his day.  Well, his picking up made mine!  Here is a photo of Gavin that got him in the newspaper all the way across the country:  http://seattletimes.com/ABPub/zoom/html/2002536077.html.

That's all...  Here is to a great Super Bowl game... [smiley=cheers.gif] and a Broncos win!!! ;D

No, I don't know him.  Was he your year?  There was a DiCapua family that lived not to far from me (was his father a principal?)  If so, my parents know them.  I bet he had a good time at the game.   ;)  And I got my haircut at the old Seaview not at Monmouth so I don't know Ivan either.

If I could commentate on where I see this headed...  Steve, who now would need at least a COUPLE extra protection spots to keep the very keeper-worthy players he has, is trying to cut a deal for a top-notch quarterback, which is the one position at which he is not totally solid (besides defense), with a team that has the protection space available to make an uneven 2-for-1 or even 3-for-1 deal (that is, without needing any pro spots from Steve).  Feder's team with Drew Brees fits that bill to a tee... Check it all out on the "History (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/gbrfl/history.htm)" page at the GBRFL league web site!

What an odd week...  Whoever was playing me could have pretty much figured out my lineup this week.  I have never had this happen...  I literally only have just a starting lineup this week: 2 QB's (Roethlisberger and Fitzpatrick), 3 RB's (Bush, Ivory and Gerhart), 3 RC's (Crabtree, Colston and Wayne), 1 PK (Gostkowski) and 1 DU (Detroit).  Weird!

The odd thing this week, though, is that what I have is a "perfect" lineup.  Down through the years, I have been short at positions before (quarterback, for sure).  But, I have never had this "of my 21-component roster what I have available is exactly a starting lineup" thing.

Also note, as Steve could confirm, I was thinking ahead...  My making him the offer on what turned out to be our "Fitzpatrick-Colston for Moreno-Jackson" trade was prompted by my realizing that on my roster I only had one quarterback available Week 4, which I knew was not too far off on the horizon and needed to be taken care of sooner rather than paying more in a mad scramble later.  It was all about Fitzpatrick...  Who'd a thunk? [smiley=LMFAO.gif]

Boy, last week, Stevo was destined to be going to up against a Top 3 defense.  I know rankings based on "fantasy points" do not translate over to our system with precision, but he went up against Danny and me last week and, thus, respectively, the #1 D, the [smiley=eagle.gif] Eagles, and the #3 D, the [smiley=horsey.gif] Broncos, with the #2 D, the [smiley=lion.gif] Lions, on my bench.  That is rough, indeed! :-X

I picked up Jordan Matthews last week with my 2nd round f/a pick.  It is not like he is a hot commidity.   He is a player I would never start or protect with my current receiving corp.  I was probably going to drop him.

Turbin is a hand-cuff to Marshawn Lynch who I own.   Some believe Christine Michel is the heir apparent, but I don't.  Turbin looks better.   Add to the fact all the rumors about Lynch not being in Seattle next year.....this trade actually makes perfect sense for me.

In regards to Sanchez, I have no idea what to think about him.  I guess we will see -  I believe in Chip Kelly's offense more than the QB.  With that said,  what I do know is that Foles is NOT playing and I need a 3rd QB.  I was not going to chase Sanchez when it was only 4 weeks Foles was going to be out, but now that it is 6-8 weeks, I had to get him in order to protect my 2.5 game lead.

Lightning strikes...

"Legit chance to root for your coach... specifically..."

That is what Trout has tonight...

According to my tentative calculation of our game, to put Trout away I need three points out of Gano tonight, that is, a field goal or three extra points.  If that does not happen, then, if Chip Kelly and the Eagles beat the Panthers by more than 24 points, Trout wins.  Tall order, but, hey, how many times has there ever been where your coach "actively" comes into play like this???

Dan,

Your right. I should have realized when I did that deal, that only your players get injured. Since he is still on your team on the Rosters page, it only stands to reason Foster tried to get injured. It all makes sense now.
I will promise to keep you posted on any injury news for your team. I feel obligated. Thank you again!

Dave, i feel like it is my duty to give you the latest information. Don't tell me i don't help you out with anything. Offer still stands, Blue for next years #1 pick.

Arian Foster injures groin, set to undergo surgery

The Houston Texans must again prepare for life without Arian Foster.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday, per a source informed of the situation, that Foster suffered a major groin injury during practice on Monday night that will likely necessitate surgery. Texans head coach Bill O'Brien confirmed the injury Wednesday.

Foster is expected to undergo surgery with Dr. William Meyers, an expert on sports hernias, in Philadelphia on Friday, assuming Foster agrees with the doctor's diagnosis, Rapoport reported, per a source who has spoken to Foster.

The Pro Bowl running back will miss the start of the season, per Rapoport, and is almost certainly is headed to short-term injured reserve. ESPN.com first reported Foster's injury.

Foster, 28, has missed 11 games over the past two seasons due to injuries and has dealt with groin issues in the past. He remains one of the NFL's top all-purpose running backs when on the field, however. He finished with 1,573 yards from scrimmage and 13 total touchdowns in just 13 games for Houston in 2014.

The Texans will move forward with a running back group that includes Alfred Blue, Chris Polk and Jonathan Grimes. Free-agent options include Ahmad Bradshaw, Chris Johnson, Ray Rice and Pierre Thomas. The Texans hosted Thomas for a visit on Wednesday, but the two sides were unable to agree on a contract.

Foster's injury is a crushing setback for a Texans team that was counting on their star rusher to carry an offense with limitations at the quarterback position. The Texans might have just gone from playoff sleeper candidate to conference also-ran.

A not-so-generous offer.  Putting myself in Dave's shoes, I instantly rejected the offer, then decided to give it 5.3 seconds of thought, then re-concluded that there's no way in hell I'd give a first rounder, of any kind, for Blue.

I have had some questionable team names over the years.  But I think it is fine to stretch the meaning or sounding of some words if it creates a good team name.

However, I have to call out Steve Warner on calling his team "Thank you Sir, Murray have another?"  That is horrible!!!

"Murray" sounds nothing like "May I" whether you are using a Southern accent, a NJ accent, or a Korean accent.  That is really bad.  You need to change that right away.

I will take it under advisement, however, I like the way Murray works in the sentence while also indirectly referring another championship.   Throw in Animal House, and the name is not changing anytime soon.

At this point, I think Pak has the lead on me but it is somewhat close and it depends on how our QBs end up.  My game with Warner will be ever closer but I think I have the advantage at this point.

Assuming that Pak beats Travis and I beat Warner (which is a big IF), the championship is 50/50 between Pak and I and will likely come down to how Newton and Palmer do in the Divisional Round.

Steg, if Pak and I end up with the same record and are 2-2 in head to head, the next tie-breaker is points differential, right?

That is correct.

Rob has the Cardinals' D in the Divisional Round.  That is going to be significant, as well.

On a side note, I was surprised you did not go to an old staple of yours, Steven Jackson.  His yardage was whatever, but that touchdown would have helped you.

The game between DB and I is close.   I need Marshawn and Desean Jackson to have good days.   Ultimately, it could come down to my kicker not getting a single field goal  :(   Only 3 stupid extra points.

As for Antonio Brown, he played against me week 17 (unfortunately).  Not sure why you say unfortunately, Mr. Commissioner.  Are you rooting against me?  I guess I would root against me too.  I hope I win but I would not be upset if Pak finally one it.

Title: Re: The... Just Talk Thread
Post by DirkDiggler on Jan 11th, 2016, 8:11am
Well, it seems that the Basement Dwellers have a pretty good shot at actually winning against the #1 seed.   If  DB gets a Carson Palmer rushing TD, the game would be really close.   So I need either Palmer not to run a TD in OR if he does get a rushing TD, ,I need Marshawn Lynch to play this week and get a rushing TD.  If Lynch does not play, then I would get Alfred Blues 99 yards - which does not do me any good in points.   Going to be close!!!!

Title: Re: The... Just Talk Thread
Post by DB on Jan 11th, 2016, 7:11pm
Definitely close.  Will come down to Palmer TDs (need at least 2); Lynch & Palmer yards per rush; and Catanzaro FGs.

Title: Re: The... Just Talk Thread
Post by StegRock on Jan 17th, 2016, 2:08am
Well, here is what I am fairly certain Warner needs to beat DB, that is to say, what Pak needs to take the crown... [smiley=king.gif]

M. Lynch to have a good enough yards per rush to flip the category, which currently stands at 3.55 to 4.00.

OR

Lynch to score a touchdown receiving.

OR

Lynch to get 20 yards receiving AND 101 yards rushing.

OR

Lynch not to play or record any stats AND Seattle to lose so that Warner gets A. Blue's Wild Card week stats.

...

What a finish...!!! [smiley=duel.gif]

Title: Re: The... Just Talk Thread
Post by DB on Jan 17th, 2016, 10:39am
Wow this is really close. I am really lucky to be in this situation.  That Carson Palmer TD at the end of regulation was pure luck.  If they do not get that bounce, the Cardinals are done and so am I.

Based on my calculations, if Lynch does not play, then Warner (really Pak) wins 18-17.  If Lynch plays, and he is expected to, it will be very tight.

In addition to what Steg says, Lynch can win it for Pak if he throws at TD or kicks a bunch of field goals.

A Lynch 2 point conversion would also hurt me depending on his yards her carry.  Lynch's receptions and receiving yards per reception may impact things as well (as Blue's one catch gave Steve 2 points for the receptions' category but he lost him the bonus for yards for reception).

Steg,  I don't see how 20 receiving yards makes a difference.  Also, I cannot access the spreadsheet for some reason.

Pak, I hope that you are aware of all this and that if Lynch is active, you (like me) will be agonizing over every play. Good luck!

And yes, a deal does make sense.   Who the hell knows what is going to happen down there - The signing of Ivory is definitely a weird signing IMO.

Lots of strange happenings-  does Denver really think Sanchez is good enough to start the season?   That is nuts.

I usually don't add up my scores but did tonight because I could tell that both my games were close. There are still a few big players left (Brown, Bell, Beckham) but right now, unless I am missing a fumble or 2 point conversation or something, I have me beating both by 1 point!

Yards and TDs probably won't matter (unless someone has multiple TDs).  These games are coming down to yards per catch or fumbles or something.  Crazy.

For me, 32 more yards passing out of Roethlisberger/Smith, and even though Frank and I still have our DU's to go, the Giants and the Vikes, respectively, and he RC Sterling Shepard, it would be an uphill climb for him.  Joe, I am pretty sure I have disposed with fairly handily. :)

What is going on in our league?  How on earth did I win two games this week?  Martin is injured, L. Murray had 18 yards, Baldwin and Cooks were atrocious; Bradford and Mariota and Taylor were subpar.  To call it a "pleasant surprise" would be understating it greatly.

It's only getting worse, too.  I've been Federed -- meaning, Sammy Watkins is out for the rest of the season and Corey Coleman is out for most of it.  Because of that, and because Brandin Cooks and Doug Baldwin are on bye, my starters this week -- drum roll -- are Greg Olsen, Golden Tate, and Philip Dorsett.  This, after Steve Warner expressed amazement at how many good receivers I had on draft day.

To top it off, two of my top 3 running backs are out (Doug Martin and Latavius Murray), so my starters will probably end up being CJ Anderson, Wendell Smallwood, and Devontae Booker.

Yikes.

Estimated final for my game against DB: I win 30-22!  Beckham came up seven yards short.

As for my other game, Trout has a quarterback and his defense to go tomorrow night, but he has a steep uphill climb...

This kicker of his 17 pts, 2 50 plus yds.. Odell BS Td who was out of bounds, and the 2 pt conversion did me in. Im already looking forward to next season.

Since I traded for Fitzpatrick, I started him.  Petty is getting the start which I am fine with.  However, I FEAR that Fitz will come in for 1 play and throw the ball fucking me in the stats.  :(     Fingers crossed he does not touch the ball today.....

I debated whether to start Petty, but karma would of had just the opposite happen.   Fitz would of started and miss a few plays because of the knee.

I am thankful I only have one game this week with byes for Luck and Gore (who has been a very pleasant surprise for someone who everyone thought was retiring 4 years ago).    Unfortunately, it is an important game in the standings as it is against Pak.

Yet another year of fantasy football brings yet another way to get screwed over.  No, not by being 1st or 2nd in the lottery and getting the 7th -- er, I mean, 5th -- spot.  I wasn't in the lottery this year, so the fantasy football gods found another way: "Hmmm, let's have the Bills trade Sammy Watkins to a team that starts Jared Goff at qb.  Yes, that's a great idea.  Oh, it also screws over Tyrod Taylor!  A two-for-one hatchet job!  Excellent, yes, that will do just fine."  The salt in the wound is that I have to choke down the Jared Goff kool-aid they're peddling in these here SoCal environs just to keep my fantasy football sanity.

Of course, there's also the Latavius Murray situation to submarine my team...

And, now Meredith goes down with a torn ACL... the day after cuts.  And, Danny thinks this only happens to him.  I lose Edelman, a truly protectable player, and I suck it up and cut him.  Danny loses Tannehill, a scrub, and he calls for the rules to be immediately changed so as to accommodate his misfortune.  I cannot even do with Meredith what Danny should have done with Tannehill (and, perhaps, Bortles too [smiley=rollinwithlaughter.gif]).

I'll Chime in not slamming anybody's team, but I lost AP and Gronk for most of last year, and carried them all year long. This just happens in the NFL.

Dude, think it through...  You have not given justification for adding an IR spot.  What you have stated here is just as much justification to leave it the way it is with no IR spot as it is justification to add an IR spot. ::) [smiley=laugh.gif] If anything, you have demonstrated the whimsical, arbitrary, frivolous and, indeed, unnecessary nature of the proposal.  In fact, thankfully, I think you have successfully laid it to rest! Unfortunately, the two players you have lost are not important enough to keep but if it was a blue chip player maybe you would feel different. Anyway, good thing you can drop him week one to make room for someone else. If this was a ty Hilton ect. It would suck to have him take up a roster spot, obviously you don't think so.

Injuries absolutely suck, especially when they are in games that simply don't matter for those injured (Tannehill and Steg's two receivers prime examples this year). Still dead set against an IR spot (Robert Edwards on the beach).

Has anyone heard from Frank? Do sincerely hope all is good with him and with his family.

If it was Hilton, yes, he is worth monopolizing a spot for a season; Tannehill, no.

Trash talk aside, point being, Danny, guys who are really worth it are worth stashing with one of your current TWENTY-ONE roster spots or TWELVE protection spots.  Case in point, if you went ahead and committed that IR spot to Tannehill and then A.J. Green went down for the season, you would probably want to either cut Tannehill and devote the IR spot to Green or just suck it up and keep Green with one of your 21/12 spots.

It is well worth leaving it alone and forcing us to make the difficult decisions regarding the Tannehills, Edelmans and Merediths of the game.  In a league in which the rosters are sooooo deeeeep, having to possibly free up those kinds of guys when they sustain season-ending injuries (or receive season-long suspensions?) has the upshot of enhancing league parity a bit.

My focus was not even on Smith.  It was on Robinson.  Smith is the next Charles Rogers.  His career is over.  If Robinson's injury is severe -- it appears to be -- and he is done for the season, his career could be on the ropes as well, in which case he will end up being a one-year wonder. :-/

What are the chances that you have a receiver on your team suffer a season-ending ACL injury early in the season?  Fifty-fifty, I suppose.  Still a reasonable hope that you will not.

A total of three receivers suffer season-ending ACL tears over a span of less than two and half weeks during the end of the preseason and the first week of the regular season.  We have ten teams in our league.  What are the chances that you have ANY of these three receivers on your team?  Low.  What are the chances that you have ALL of them?  100%... if your name is Steg. I disagree.  The difference lies, not in the "what", but in the "how".  I am expressing it in a matter-of-fact way.  You express it like a whiny little bitch.  This particular dismantling of my receiving corps via season-ending injury this early in the year is statistically, somewhat notable.

You are such a troll...  You sound like a whiny bitch right now.  It is about the "how", not the "what".  It is about demonstrating your case, not just stating it.  Also, Steve's and my lamentations do not come with a call to change the rules to make up for our misfortunes.

Ever since my little move of going without a placekicker at the end of last season, how about the silly struggles I am having at placekicker here to start this season??? ::)

Week 1 - Janikowski: 0 points, deactivated totally unexpectedly (I had the right idea -- Tavecchio had a MONSTER game);

Week 2 - Koo: 3 points, 1-3 on field-goal attempts (granted, I picked him up only because he is Korean);

Week 3 - Parkey: 0 points (against the Jets), even misses an extra point. [smiley=gimmeabreak.gif]

This would be hilarious if it was not costing me games (at least one Week 1). :-/

Ah, c'est la vie...

Week 4 - Parkey: 0 points (against the Saints), not even an attempt in a game that was projected to be high-scoring. [smiley=rollinwithlaughter.gif]

(Mind you, this all began with...

Week 17 (2017) - NO placekicker: 0 points by choice

So, over the last five weeks, going back to last season, I have all of three points from a placekicker, and even those three were from a guy who went 1-for-3 in attempts.  Is this my punishment?) [smiley=nono.gif]

I am just documenting facts in a fairly self-deprecating and, in any event, satirical way.  I do not sound nearly like the ignorant, whiny bitch that you do when things do not go your way.  No begging for rule changes when things do not go my way, no myopic claims that my team sustains injuries at a higher rate than others' every time I have a player go down, and no need for extracurricular league activities to maintain relevance when my team sucks (I just own it and, notwithstanding, need to remain integrally involved, indeed, despite its being pretty damn unfun).  Heck, you do not usually even hear from me about this stuff (like last year when I,... eh-hem,... came in dead-last place).  I am only noting the statistically curious hits my team is taking of late (at placekicker and receiver), not that my team has not taken further hits (but they are not that interesting or worth calling especial attention to).

And, with all this talk about whining about injuries, and all the injuries that are taking place (as they try to make a violent, contact sport a "safe space" like everything else instead of a field of "personal responsibility and free choice for a man to do what he wants with his own body"), let's make no mistakes...  DB has been hit devastatingly hard.  I do not know if any of us can match losing Cook and then Beckham, his #1's at RB and RC, in back-to-back weeks. Few comments

1. Feel bad for DB, last year my entire team went down, it sucks losing your season to that crap. Today Rogers, holy fuck thats a season ender for Hahn. I know Trout thrives off other peoples injuries, i dont like it at all. He who does well in the league is mainly injury free

2. Parsons- Nice moves, first by trading AP to Trout, he stuck it in your ass today and second dropping Landry, everyone went after him, nice move and nice game by him.

3. I believe i got through this week in kicking Paks ass and barley sneaking by Trout. 11-1 baby, keep the train rolling next week against Steg!

Let's clarify a few things for our resident midget, Dr. Needledick:

1) I only root for injuries to you. (Aside from the major brain injury you suffered at birth)
2) You specifically said to me that the AP trade was a total joke and I was an idiot. He goes out and has one good game and that translates into Joe taking it in the ass?
3) You're 10-1 Ahole. Be careful what you wish for playing Steg next week - his team is on the upswing with some really good recent additions.

Man, did I get LUCKY [smiley=shammy.gif] this week so far,... and I am not even talking about DB's not playing Cooper or Carr, or Frank's not submitting a lineup this week and my getting Hundley with the second pick.  ...  I picked up Buffalo's D last week with it in mind to use them this week, and with Fitzpathetic now possibly at Tampa's helm that was looking like a decent plan.  Houston is off, and Baltimore's matchup is so-so at best.  I then, while putting in my lineup for this week, got so focused on going after and streaming Tennessee against Cleveland that I totally forgot about even having Buffalo, and on my lineup card I put Tennessee, which there was a great chance of my not getting after getting Hundley with my first pick, in as my starting DU for both games and, knowing Houston was off, just mechanically typed in Baltimore for my #2.  While I was surprised and thrilled to get Hundley with my first pick, I was nervous as hell while going team-by-team and figuring out the free-agents for this week. [smiley=nervous.gif]  It is a small miracle that Tennessee fell to me in the second round.  ...  It will probably all backfire and blow up in my face, anyway.  Watch...  Cleveland will finally have a breakout game against Tennessee, and Baltimore (and Buffalo, just to put salt in the wound) will end up having stellar days. :-/

First of all, Happy Thanksgiving!

Second, I didn't know it was possible to score 86 points (but I guess I did).  Looks like I could have won by more (I lost the receptions category and a few others).  Something to shoot for this week.

Third, that AB trade is pretty wild.  It is impossible to judge it now ... depends on how long AB plays at a high level and how high those draft picks are.

All I know is I have to play AB two weeks in a row.  I also think that there is a big disparity in how 1st round draft picks are valued in our league (I am not talking about this trade specifically, more in general).

Agreed DB. For example, next draft you have two qbs that are suppose to be studs, kid from USC and UCLA. Also have the RB from penn state.  brown done in few years and I completely disagree on he will be any good when Ben retires. Look what he did when Ben was out for a few games this year, shit! I personally have tremendous value for first round picks, especially early ones. If dalvin cook stayed healthy , he is well worth first rounder.

What kind of logic is that?  To make your point, that is, assuming you have one, that last sentence should read, "If Dalvin Cook stayed healthy, he would have been well worth that player I keep riding you about, Brock Osweiler."  You have piled up so many lies on top of lies that it is impossible for you to maintain a coherent train of thought.
