I do not understand this at all.....why not keep him for the rest of the season?  The Broncos have an outside chance at the playoffs, why not keep him as insurance?   If they think so little of him, why not trade him earlier in the year?

Just throwing this out there, provocative though I know it will be...  I do preface, though, that, as many of you onlookers know, I am an avid [smiley=broncofan.gif] Broncomaniac and Manning fan [smiley=hearteyes.gif] (who isn't?).  I also have Manning on my squad.

Nevertheless, with all that said, given Manning's age (37 soon going on 38), could he become arm weary late in the season?  And, if so, should he be put on a sort of "pitch count"?  Whatchyas think?

Title: Re: Broncos Team Report

I think they are doing that...but only when they are winning by ALOT.
They sat him down in the 4th Quarter the other night when they we up by 40 or so.
I can see much more of that in the future months from the way that team is hitting on all cylinders.
I think that is all they will do to him.

Title: Re: Broncos Team Report
Post by DB on Sep 30th, 2013, 7:49pm
I have never heard of that in football.  In baseball, younger pitchers may be on a pitch count because you don't want to increase your throws per year by more than 20%.  However, baseball pitches throw as hard as they can for about 100 pitches over 30-35 starts.

In football, they play 16 games, throw the ball 20-40 times and are not throwing as hard as they can.  Maybe it is an issue but I never heard any mention of this as an issue.

I think they take out Manning with a big lead in the 4th so he doesn't get popped.  Doubt it has anything to do with arm weariness.
