Gridiron Greats - Philly

Head Coaches - Mossaholic

GREAT JOB, guys! You guys are all a "presence" on "the Gridiron" and that presence is MUCH APPRECIATED!  All of you have contributed positive energy to this endeavor of mine.  For that, I thank each of you!

Philly, you in particular are "the man".  As I have said before, I only hope I can (substantively) return an approximation of what you have given me here.

CONGRATS to Philly and Kidcrash   for the graduation.

I was excited about my 100th post   until I saw Philly on his 2500th   WOW!!

I think I have become officially addicted to this site. Countless times lately I have sat down to do schoolwork and said "let me check the Gridiron real quick" then I spend in hour on here and don't get any schoolwork done. Oh well

Thanks to StegRock

Mossman, and anybody else who happens to read this, take what I am about to write here as "from someone who wants to (substantively and genuinely) care", i.e., don't take it the wrong way, i.e. as "condescending" (like some who have had their fires fueled have on occasion)...

In a very immediate way, what you wrote (quoted above) makes me feel GREAT, Mossman!  THANK YOU!  I am glad you like the site that much, which kind of matter-of-factly implies that you apparently "get" what I am up to/trying to do (on a higher level) here.  That having been said, get that schoolwork done, friend.  Keep those priorities in order!  I know you know this, but it can't hurt a) to be reminded and, moreover, b) for you to know that I know (and care and, how I see it, even have a vested interest in caring).

I bring this up because it is poignant to me as I hearken back to my time at the FFToday forums.  I remember SO MANY times when I, FOR HOURS ON END, got sucked into some inane discussion (or what came to be inane discourse) where (too) many of the participants (for my liking) did not really care to hear others out and make substantive progress, either with respect to the topic or "each other".  Disagreements typically just led to mean-spiritedness and name-calling, which, like here, I almost always abstain from, and then people telling me to have thick skin, which in and of itself I did not like, were themselves exhibiting onion-like thin skin.  On top of that, as RIF was (self-)evidently not the "mode of the day" there, solid, well-thought-out, substantive posts would get buried (by inane one-liners) in no time.  Moreover, I did not get any sense of people really getting/wanting to get to know one another better/on a more "real" level and, if anything, their frequently misconstruing my words made me realize that they knew me less the more I typed. ...

Point being, in the end, I would feel basically "empty" about the (valuable) time I had spent there and, ultimately, I felt like it was time wasted.  Hence, in late summer/fall of '02, during which I unexpectedly and grudgingly returned to bumblefuck Korea (literally, 5+ hours south of Seoul) to work for an additional year, I was starving for substantive football talk (which does not exist AT ALL in Korea), but absolutely sick and tired of what was available in the world of FF forums, mainly FFToday,... in that context, I made "the Gridiron @ FantasyFootballer.com" come to be.

My ultimate point here is that I want to foster a genuinely "real" air of getting to know (and even caring about) one another (as interconnected people) by paying attention to and "responding to", and not just "talking at", one another, and, as I mentioned earlier, how I have a vested interest of sorts in caring about you as a "real" person lies in the fact that I NEVER want any of you to feel about this place the way I was made to feel about "that" aforementioned place.  Actually, "in this light", all of us have a vested interest in caring about one another.

Well, we got a class of one coming through "the Gridiron Program" here tonight, and appropriately so, as this guy is in a "class by himself"; he is a GBRFLer, though; that's his saving grace:

Fantasy Field Generals - DOLFAN

Joe, dude, you make me pull my hair out at times, but I do adore your enthusiasm and passion for this common hobby of ours.  You get joy out of it to a degree that I can relate.  Your participation here has been a boon.  Thank you!
