the Bleachers If you want to chat about anything under the sun besides football and without its having to be intertwined in a football-related conversation, such as other sports, baby announcements, cooking, pets, politics, economics, religion, philosophy, sex, chicks, books, whatever, etc., etc., as long as it is not covered by one of our other "thematic" threads like the "Happy Birthdays to our fellow Gridironers" thread or the "Get to know your Gridironers" threads, this "STICKY THREAD" is for you! Enjoy! Link to the immediately prior "the Bleachers" sticky thread: http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=58;a ction=display;num=1068119752.

Stayed at a hotel outside the city (near the old airport) and didn't get into downtown. Since so many of you are familiar with the city, I'll need some tips. I'll also be in Tucson in three weeks. If anyone has any thoughts about that city too, they'd be much appreciated. |
| I was born in Tucson, but haven't been back in almost 15 years. The Desert Museum is pretty cool. It's more of a zoo/arboretum than anything I would call a "museum." The San Xavier Mission is also very interesting and The Old Tucson Movie Studios is a MUST for cowboy/western movie enthusiasts! And if you like to golf, there are a couple of really good courses in town...sorry, I can't recall their names right now. Wish I could tell you something about the "night life", but like I said, it's been almost 15 years. Say hello to "The Old Pueblo" for me and ...ENJOY!

... or maybe it's ,... but still it's ! Thanks for the cheers, Callie! Now we need bigger mugs, though. How about bottles? ONE SEMESTER DOWN! All these people around me working furiously... Me... Exams finny, no paper extensions or anything like that (like a number of my colleagues ... )! I AM DONE with fall '04... and kicked some serious Catholic U. ass in the process! You guys got your Steggie back, for four or so weeks at least. ... And, by the way, Callie, my mom is out of town, and, no, you were not being a busybody at all. Thanks for the concern. My mom says your Christmas lights look fantastic. I'll be back up in NJ soon (in a week or so). I look forward to seeing them.

Oh, my Lord!!! This is where Gino and I spent our (first) honeymoon (after our wedding ceremony in Korea in July, 2000): http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1530&e=11&u= /afp/asiaquakethailand; http://www.boston.com/dailynews/361/world/Disaster_strikes_vacationers_i :.shtml; http://sg.news.yahoo.com/041228/1/3pilu.html; http://evelynrodriguez.typepad.com/crossroads_dispatches/2004/12/slammed _by_tida.html. Thousands dead! What a tragedy! God bless that part of the world,... please! As for the personal connection, Gino and I spent 10 days in Thailand, in Bangkok, but mostly on the islands of Phuket and Phi Phi. Phi Phi holds a particular special place in our hearts. Yes, it's just simply beautiful... But, for us, without getting too personal with this, we worked through and resolved a very difficult and serious "issue" in our relationship on Ko (island) Phi Phi. All we talk about is getting back there someday. That island has been destroyed.

Guys, this has been a real tragedy. 150,000+ HUMANS, 10's of thousands of CHILDREN, FAMILIES wiped out in one fell swoop, children without parents, parents without children, wives without their husbands, husbands without their wives, MANY MORE casualties, towns and villages GONE from the face of the Earth, OVER 5,000,000 homeless, geography in that part of the world forever significantly altered, food and water scarce... It cannot be any more obvious that "support" is need and generous spirits NEED to step up. We are giving... through the following charity: http://www.catholicrelief.org/home.cfm. I am providing this link, but I encourage you all to do whatever you can by whatever channels you choose. As a Catholic (technically,... and a grad student at Catholic U., I suppose), I felt most comfortable with this one.

Okay, let's get to the REAL tourney... DU in the hunt AND on the hunt yet again... http://proxy.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?page=05frozenpicks; http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=2017900. I won't get too crazy yet with the colors and graphics. No jinxin'! For now, I'll just leave it at... Go DU! Go DU! Go DU! By the way, regarding other Gridironer's alma maters performing well in tourneys going on right now, how about them basketball-playin' lady Scarlett Knights of Rutgers of Philly's? Good luck, Joysie gals! By the way, Phil, weren't you on the team? ... ... ... Addendum: I want to throw this belated Rutgers shout out to two of my GBRFL Rutgers boyz, DB (undergrad and law school) and Pakman (law school). I think D too played for the lady Knights. ... I also want to send out some good vibrations to the nephew of one of my good old buds and fellow GBRFLers Doug Owens (dowens11 here), Taquan Dean of the Louisville Cardinals. I am sure Doug and his family are goin' crazy. Good luck!

GO DU! Fellas, more to this story than first reported. DU plays hockey in the WCHA league, whose members this year all represent the Final Four. This is the first time this has EVER happened in the NCAA. FIRST. Plus, two of the top four teams are from Colorado. DU is the WCHA Champion. Therefore... well I won't say it but it's out there... There are still two games to be played until the champion is crowned. However, it's nice to know that the WCHA owns the United States when it comes to hockey.
