Title: Site Donors
Post by StegRock on Nov 13th, 2003, 10:30pm
I would like to heartily thank the following members for stepping up and making a monetary donation to the site within the last year both with an eye towards the future of the site AND in consideration of me. I truly appreciate their ability to take a step back and grok what is going on here for what it is, substantively and humbly acknowledge the whole picture that includes the long-term sacrifices I have had to make to pull something like this off, see the bigger picture, the vision I have for FantasyFootballer.com, which is rather clear when sincerely stepping back and seeing the forest through the trees... I appreciate their trusting me and ultimately "getting it" without question. Thank you for helping me to at least try to see this thing through and with more confidence and incentive continue growing, progressing and, well, working! [smiley=bow.gif]

Jamie Josko, a guy who has ALREADY been a great help around here, thank you for stepping up yet again and in this manner.  You have been so supportive in so many ways and this really was an unnecessary addition to all you already have done to pitch in.  But, I can see that you understand my predicament here and I truly appeciate your generously acting on it. :)

Way to kick off the month of December, Ray! :) I truly appreciate your generous show of goodwill.

With our fifth donor now, we are actually starting to get to the point where when I open my wallet and take out my credit card and have to start renewing accounts and such, I won't cringe as much.  Thank you so much for helping me keep the site going and growing.

Gene, thank you so much for, in the spirit of the holiday season, [smiley=santa.gif] helping me with the "bottom line" here. These good tidings I am receiving as of late make me want to continue giving back... all year round, :) i.e., in the least, it just makes me feel good about what I am doing here, which probably has just as much, if not a greater, impact on the "bigger picture" than the cash itself. [smiley=yes.gif] This gives some substantive meaning and context to all the thank yous.

...

By the way, here is a link to our "Donations" page, where our donors list is also maintained and which is accessible by way of "the Gridiron Store (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/store.htm)":

Thanks, once again, to ALL, [smiley=bow.gif] and HAPPY HOLIDAYS! [smiley=rudolph.gif]

Well, one of our not-so-new members, but one who is hanging around the joint A LOT lately, Brad George, has stepped up to the plate.  I just received his donation today, St. Patrick's Day! [smiley=stpat.gif] ... [smiley=shamrock.gif] I guess it's the luck of the Irish (though I am not Irish,... actually, somewhat ironically, I suppose, got a lot of Scotch... I mean Scottish in me ;) )!  In any event, this means so much to me, especially as I mentioned in another thread as of late my high time for paying the bills around here is from April through July, that's when almost all of my registration, web-hosting and news-feed fees are due.  So, Brad, THANK YOU SO MUCH for this VERY timely and VERY generous donation! [smiley=bow.gif]

Guys, we got a new, easy way to donate on "the Gridiron"! You all can now substantiely help support the "effort" here simply with your credit card! If you want to sniff around, here are the places to go:

http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/donate.htm,

which is available by way of "the Gridiron Storefront", located at:

http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/store.htm.

If I may say so myself, the (local) processing system, which I put together all by my lonesome, in and of itself, is pretty darn cool! [smiley=swollenhead.gif] Just receiving one of those automatic thank you e-mails I've put together makes it worth dropping a few bucks on "the Gridiron".

...

Anyway, as always, thank you so much to those that have stepped up here on "the Gridiron" and helped keep the site free in every sense of the word, free and free of unwanted ads! [smiley=bow.gif] Know that you truly are making a difference, perhap the difference. :) Your generosity encourages me to press on, in the least.

Okay, it's late and I'm EXTREMELY [smiley=tired.gif] ! Time for Steggie here to [smiley=sleepers.gif] !

In response to a concern that was expressed to me regarding donating by credit card, I want it to be known that credit card numbers are NOT kept in a database or ANYWHERE after processing is complete.  This is now indicated on the form:

https://ffpro.hostica.com/secure/ccdonations.htm.

Thank you to those considering lending a hand! [smiley=bow.gif]

Well, we've got our first-ever "donor by credit card", KingKingSting a.k.a. Bill. ;) A great guy... we actually spoke over the phone over the weekend (wow... two consecutive prepositional phrases beginning with "over" [smiley=nerd.gif] ).  He "gets" what I am up to around here and that means about as much to me as the very generous donation he made.  Actually, I gather that it is the reason he made the donation. [smiley=threed.gif] Thank you, Bill, both for getting it and being inspired to make a donation! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

That two-timer Callie!  She's gone and done it again,... behind my back no less!  I even told her, when she told me she was going to, not to!  But, no, she went and did it... BECAME OUT FIRST-EVER TWO-TIME DONOR, that is!!! :) If I could, I'd give you a big :-* (we don't have a "hug" smiley [smiley=shrug.gif] )!  THANKS so much for your participation here as well as your kind understanding and substantive "appreciation" of all the work [smiley=builder.gif] I put in as well as of "my job" [smiley=waitinforu.gif] which has to be done,... and, oh yea, for the donation too! Thanks for the thanks. I see it as a bargain and worth a lot.

On the practical side, as I understand it the big financial hits come in June and July. Maybe the Gridiron Gang would like to be more aware of that, so that if they plan on ponying up for the season they can do it at a time when it means a lot. I've been around the threads for long enough now to know that these guys are quality. If they want in, they will do it when it counts.

Modification:  I know that you have a thread about this, but it might be good to make it a little more prominent this time of year.  People are not around as much during the off season, but  I don't think anyone would object to seeing something under the Features header.  Just a thought.

All of you, but especially these folks stepping up multiply (WOW... :o I am sure that is the first time I've ever used that word), are really illustrative (oh my... [smiley=ohshit.gif] I am verbally en fuego...  Where am I pulling these words out from?) of the REAL, tangible, substantive difference, albeit little-by-little, a handful of people can make when they simply choose to do so!  We are getting there and when we do, your kind, thoughtful and generous assistance will not be forgotten!

Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you! :)

Well, now the two-timers are coming in TWOS!!! [smiley=havinablast.gif] [smiley=havinablast.gif] I received a couple donations within the last 12 hours, one late last night, one today, from a couple guys, who ALREADY give a TON to the site by way of EFFORT,... one of them in particular.  These are really not the guys who need to do this, BUT THEY DO ANYWAY!  And, for that I am TRULY GRATEFUL!  They are definitely among the ones who, when all is said and done, will REALLY, SUBSTANTIVELY have helped us get to the "promised land".  Thank you so much, Jeff and Steve, for stepping UP.

Well, while the site donors list isn't growing overall, the TWO-time donors list is (and so are the amounts, actually [smiley=thumbsup.gif] ), meaning that people who have already stepped up to the plate have decided to "make a difference" yet again (an even bigger difference).  THANK YOU, this time specifically to Chumpzilla a.k.a. Ray Matty. [smiley=bow.gif] You are a (low-maintenance ;) ) pleasure to deal with, Ray.  You seem to really grasp ALL that goes into this venture and always strive to "get it right" first and wade through the material before jetting questions at me.  You don't know how MUCH I appreciate that AND how much time it (cumulatively) saves me (so I can work on the progress of the site rather than explanations of things already explained).  Also, in the process of your "doing your homework", you tend to pick things off before they are a big deal for me to deal with as opposed to later when they can potentially be a big headache for me to clean up.  Boy, do I appreciate that! [smiley=yes.gif] Well, anyway, thanks again, Ray, and everybody giving me a hand with this.  YOUR (SUBSTANTIVE, FINANCIAL) ASSISTANCE WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN! [smiley=elephant.gif] I only hope I can return these favors tenfold down the line. :)

You can count me in as an every year guy in the donation-field Stegly! The Grid-Peeps, my Insane Gang thread & your willingness to always BEE there for me & my gang w/ a helping mannerism not too mention the whole site in general is well worth it.

Guys like JoJo the Dork Faced Boy and Dirk-U-Leez Unchained that have joined my league by way of this site is just an example of the type of quality FF enthusiasts that breed a sincere, fun & exciting atmosphere which is well marinated in NFL & fantasy knowledge!

Others that I truly have enjoyed during my times here are :

Bgsgfan (I wanna know what bgsg means! lol).
Philly (no doubt a class act and one helluva guy! extermely active and always looking to help others out!))
BarnaBEE (kool guy to chat with late at night! Awesome IDP'er that has put another defensive player league on the map of Grid-City!)
Callie (a welcome breath of fresh fantasy football knowledge and opinion. Very genuine person).
Walker Boh (one of the first guys I ever chatted with here on the Grid! Nice guy!)
Prime Time (posted on one of my creative ideas long ago and liked it!)
Tony O (thanks for helping me out with the IDP trade I made to acquire A.Johnson-WR-Hou).

Many others I have crossed paths with that I look forward to getting to know!

Thanks for everything everyone!

What a wonderful, "thoughtFULL" and pleasant Christmas surprise...  One of our old-timers and mainstays here on "the Gridiron", one who bears a striking resemblance to Santa Claus... [smiley=flipoffangrily.gif] (okay, maybe not so much), ;) BarnabyWilde a.k.a. Jim O'Dell, shows his appreciation for "the Gridiron" and the work that goes into making it happen with a very generous holiday donation. [smiley=santa.gif] It is not to mention that Jim, notwithstanding this monetary gift, already gives a lot in other ways, posting frequently on the main boards, "the Red Zone", "between the 20's" and "the Sidelines", doing our FF-specific Giants report and writing an occasional fantasy article, founding and commissioning the "Giants of 'the Gridiron'" league, and talking up "the Gridrion" and getting the "good word" out to others on the internet and elsewhere.  Thank you, Jim, for this very "direct" contribution and all that you do. The new year is getting kicked off right thanks to one of our good guys, Primetime a.k.a. Gene Nestro, for making a kind and substantial donation to help out with the "cause" here.  He is one of our GBRFL2 guys, and I know he appreciates what he gets out of the league and the site in general and the effort required to bring it all to him.  It means A LOT to me that he shows his appreciation in a "bottom-line" substantive way.  Not to mention, he has recently come aboard as our Cowboys Junior Correspondent in the FF-specific Team Reports section.  Thanks, brother! March 16th, exactly one month after Stegmas, [smiley=bdaycakesmiley.gif] a healthy donation comes in from one of our best, KillerKingSting a.k.a. Bill Owens.  He and his "Insane [smiley=gonecrazy.gif] Gang" love the site and appreciate the effort that goes into bringing it to life and to you all, and it means A LOT to me that he represents their appreciation by doing what he reasonably can from the financial angle to keep this ship sailing in the "right" direction. [smiley=sailin.gif] Thanks, friend! [smiley=bow.gif]

I received an unexpected (at one time), nice, thoughtful and, might I add, "hunky" donation from a pretty long-time member of the site whom I have clashed with at times. :-[ We may have had our differences in the past, but, besides his contributions on the boards and some volunteer work, he is now making an even bigger difference.  He is surely one of our more solid members and I am glad he has hung on on "the Gridiron" through the thick and the thin.  For me, this donation is really a great story given how far we have come in our friendship of sorts, full-circle that is, from "having differences" to "making differences".  In any event, thank you very much, Tony_O a.k.a. Mr. Onisko, for your gift to the site. [smiley=bow.gif] It couldn't have come at a better time as right now the two biggest expenses are weighing heavily on me, the fee for the news feed, which I just paid in May, and, MOST importantly, our web hosting, the single biggest and most fundamental expense, which comes due July 13th!!!  It would be great if others followed your lead, especially at this time. :) Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

It's Christmas in July...  Twas the night before web-hosting fees are due and all through the house, all the Stegemans were freakin', including Steg's spouse.  Steggie was about to be hanged, his wife kicking out the chair, when arriving in the mail Callie's donation was there!!! [smiley=havinablast.gif] Cheryl, once again, a HUGE thank you for coming through, moreover, at a time when it gives such immediate relief. [smiley=bow.gif] You are one in a million, our first-ever THREE-time donor!!! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Title: Re: Site Donors
Post by StegRock on Jul 15th, 2005, 12:37am
Our list of three-timers grows... as PrimeTime a.k.a. Gene "Deion Sanders" Nestro steps up with a(nother) healthy donation. [smiley=money.gif] ... [smiley=ohshit.gif] If every member of the site donated the amount of these last two donations of Gene's and Cheryl's, I'd be PAYING my writers and other assistants (a fairly healthy little wage).  Ironically, though, two of those people would be Cheryl and Gene, who are both junior correspondents [smiley=howtoput.gif] here.  All I know is that these donations make running the site more of an enjoyment because, obvious financial impact aside, they "substantively" show an appreciation for what I am working so hard [smiley=builder.gif] here to achieve.  Primer, thank you so much for letting me know AGAIN how much you love [smiley=smitten.gif] the site and appreciate my efforts beyond mere lip service and a cyber pat on the back... and that's not to mention that you as well as the aforementioned Callie are an official, integral part of the effort going on here by way of your contribution of FF-specific team reports. [smiley=bow.gif]

Title: Re: Site Donors

Now we're talkin'... (about makin' progress).  At this rate, I just might be breakin' even here after not too long. [smiley=fingerscrossed.gif] Chumpzilla a.k.a. Ray Matty just stepped up with a(nother) hunky [smiley=greedy.gif] financial contribution to "the Gridiron".  At this point, I am being floored by the "substantive" support and love I am seeing flowing in as we are well on our way to entering year three ("the Gridiron @FantasyFootballer.com's" birthdate falls in August of 2002).  ...  Frankly speaking, guys, the gaudy amounts coming in lately are,... well,... humbling. :-/ ... :'( I guess you guys really are enjoying the site a ton and getting a lot out it and the whole experience it offers and appreciating my hard work and what I am trying to do here and the unique, unwavering and (overly at times, I suppose :-/) idealistic way I am trying to go about it.  But, the site wouldn't be what it is without each and every working part, without each and every one of you.  The existentialist/personalist in me so loves observing the wonderful, so NOT run-of-the-mill place WE are creating here.  ...  In light of this team/"cooperative" mindset, going back to the eye-popping :o numbers being donated as of late, I am SO thankful, but as I have said in various places throughout the site, I would MUCH rather 100 members donate $10 each than 10 members donate $100 each.  First, it means that more people are (in)vested in the effort.  Secondly, and MORE importantly, in my heart I cannot lie...  I do NOT think that what I do here is worth $100 or even $50 to any ONE person.  I mean I am trying hard, but... I don't see the "bottom line" as being of that much value.  The fact that I am seeing numbers along those lines... humbles me. [smiley=bow.gif] This time the "acting person" is Ray.  Thank you, Ray! :)

The first among the original GBRFLers to "step up to the plate on 'the Gridiron'" ... ?.?.? (what sport are we talkin' about here?) [smiley=uh.gif] ... ;D ... is DB a.k.a. Dave Bohrer. Added to his solid donation is a t-shirt order, making for a sweet financial shot in the arm for our beloved site here. Guys,... don't ever get me wrong... The written/verbal shows of appreciation mean so much to me. But, they don't cover the bills and other expenses it takes to keep this place running and, furthermore/more importantly, progressing. I wish I had "it" so that money wouldn't have to be an issue. That's not the case, though, as many of you know. And, in any event, there is something special that can be had when people pull resources together and do the co-op thing. DB, with his generosity here, has drawn himself in as a bigger part of the bigger picture here on "the Gridiron". Thanks so much, DB!!! [smiley=bow.gif]

A second original GBRFLer, IbdFunk a.k.a. Danny Feder, has stepped it up on "the Gridiron" and stepped up with a very healthy donation to the site.  It is because of these original GBRFLers that "the Gridiron" even exists and we have all been brought together.  For those who aren't aware, "the Gridiron" came to be out of the old GBRFL "Trash Talkin'" page.  This is the thread on which I presented the move to the GBRFL crew way back when:

http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=53;action=display;num=1030609988

A link to the old board, which is still up, but disabled, is on that thread, but I'll give it to yous here too:

http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/trashtalkin.htm.

In any event, thank you, Danny, for your thoughtful monetary contribution! [smiley=bow.gif] It sure helps and contributions like these are what make the difference as we press forth into the future of "the Gridiron".

...

And, remember thank yous to and a record of site donors are made and kept on the following page:

Drew Rosenhaus. [smiley=bow.gif] I know that there are a lot of good causes to give to these days, but know that whatever spare scratch you can afford to give to this place, as Mark has done here, is what keeps it goin'... on many levels as I have stated throughout this thread. :)

Another SIGNIFICANT contribution by way of our mother league here hath been made by Dave Trout a.k.a. Flesh is Fantasy. [smiley=boobies.gif] [smiley=wiseguy.gif] Dave, thank you very much for this "substantial" (in both senses of the word) showing of your appreciation of my efforts. [smiley=bow.gif] It is this kind of "substantive" appreciation that reassures me that my efforts [smiley=onit.gif] here really are being appreciated and the vision [smiley=threed.gif] I have of providing a TOTALLY FREE web site for the front-end user without deluging the site with advertisements is being understood and acted upon.  ...  Anyway, I know how much you enjoy our long-time most beloved hobby here.  We have gotten so much out of it and owe a lot to it,... WOW!!!  The '05 holiday season gets kicked off right... :) with a kind contribution from one of our newest members who is really establishing himself as a powerhouse on "the Gridiron", MordecaiCourage a.k.a. [smiley=worship.gif] Ken Mesecher, who also just recently stepped up to cover the Pack for our (growing) FF-specific team reports section.  ...  In all honesty, not that anytime isn't good, but this comes VERY TIMELY...  I do believe I will have slightly bad news here soon... that I will let you guys know about when it's a done deal or, should I say, "undone" deal... :-/ or, should I say, done deal... [smiley=uh.gif] ... ;) ... [smiley=zenmaster.gif] Really, I need the grassroots, "co-operative" effort to come to the fore here once again as I will be looking to individuals to step up to the plate and share the burden with me... just a bit...  It looks like I will be taking a hit related to the site here soon...  In any event,... thanks, again, Ken, for lending me a hand. [smiley=bow.gif] It means SO MUCH to me when people show me their appreciation for what I'm trying to do here in a "tangible" way... rather than, though they are better than nothing, mind you, just piling on the (for all practical intents and purposes, unefficacious) thank yous.  ...  Anyway, make sure to check out the following page...

Over the three plus years "the Gridiron @FantasyFootballer.com" has been in existence, I've always wondered what the appropriate analogy was to donating to "the Gridiron" (project). It took me to live in an area where street performers are so prevalent for it to dawn on me. I mean we've all stood and watched a street-performer juggle or perform magic, mime, music, dangerous stunts, and whatever else, and if we were even just mildly entertained (and not total cheap-asses), we wouldn't even think of walking away without dropping at least a buck into the dude's can. If we were really entertained, a fin for ten minutes of his time wouldn't be out of the question. Well, I hope you guys would admit that you get at least as much out of (ALL) your time on "the Gridiron" as you get out of a five- or ten-minute street performance . And, mind you, my overhead and time expended here, I am fairly certain, is WAY MORE than a street performer's, especially the overhead (as I'm guessing, and safely so I believe, that they don't have barely any overhead, but they, I'm sure, spent a TON of time learning their skill and continue to spend a LOT of time practicing it, BUT NO MORE than I do here, mind you, moreover for all of you specifically; i.e., it's not like I do ten performances a day for ten different groups of people; I am all the time "working" for you all). Furthermore, a street performance is a short experience that fades into the past; "the Gridiron" is a place you regularly visit and becomes a part of your life.

As I've said time and time again, I always want "the Gridiron" to remain FREE... of both membership fees AND a deluge of annoying advertisements,... and donations make for the "'co-op'erative" effort necessary to get "the job" done.

I hope during this Christmas season that you don't just take for granted and forget the (little) guy (in the "business" sense) and his little site and whose primary purpose is to bring about an environment that brings together a great group of "good people" all with this common passion, enriching (y)our enjoyment of this beloved pastime of (y)ours.

Surprise me and make my day by clicking the link below and giving back just a little something to the place you get some much out of...

Thank you for reading this and, in advance, for kindly considering lending a hand. [smiley=snowjob.gif]

Well, someone, alas, has kicked off the Christmas season of giving and not left this busker here hangin'! It was a healthy donation at that, the kind that surely shows a very real appreciation of the, for all intents and purposes, giving I do here on "the Gridiron" year round and that makes a difference. A hundred or so donations like this and I would be able to a) start really "investing" in the site and b) giving a little back to my writers, meanwhile, keeping the site FREE of fees and ads. Moreover, it comes from a member who already contributes in another substantive way by doing one of our FF-specific team reports. A BIG thank you [smiley=bow.gif] and happy holidays [smiley=christmascheer.gif] to rickgpin a.k.a. Rick Gould. Thank you so much for do doing so much to help me see this project (of mine... ours) [smiley=builder.gif] through.

...

Guys, as I had intimated a couples posts ago here, I really need individuals to come through, which is ultimately what the "co-op" mindset that I am trying to facilitate is all about, anyway. There is a particular reason, though. I am not going to go into now and take away from the announcement of this generous donation that I've received from Rick more than I already have by even mentioning this. I'll say just this much... Those of you who have been around here for a while and are familiar with "things", check out the pages of any of our original five FF-specific team reports and you will notice that something is missing (if you haven't already). Again, it's a loooong story I want to share with you all in detail, just not now. Suffice it to say that we are now yet again at the mercy of my already empty grad-student wallet. :-/

Well, steelkings a.k.a. Todd Webster a.k.a. our Colts FF-specific Team Correspondent a.k.a. OUR LATEST DONOR, came through on his word that he gave up in "the Red Zone" and did in fact make a solid financial contribution to the site, that is over and above his fine week-in-week-out reporting on the Colts. [smiley=bow.gif] Between his donation, his writing for the site and his fairly regular participation on "the Gridiron" on ALL of the featured boards, "the Red Zone", "between the 20's" and here on "the Sidelines", he is infusing the site with his spirit and, as a matter of fact, having a significant impact.  Much appreciated, friend! Well, since at this point, it is definitely a "done"/"undone" deal, I'm finally going to address this unequivocally... If you haven't noticed, we are once again sponsorless. :-/ I have decided to just give you guys a very brief summary and then let you see the absurd sequence of correspondences and laughable responses I received for yourselves (frankly speaking, divulging "numbers" here publicly I'd rather not, but...) instead of trying to explain it all in my own words. So, in VERY short, here are the highlights or, should I say, lowlights: I was initially LOW-balled by 33% (at this pace, I guess they were hoping for (virtually) free advertising in roughly 3 to 12 years, depending on if they were going by a mathematical or geometrical model ;)); I did NOT deal with one person this year that "went by the same name as anyone I dealt with last year" and I apparently dealt with three people last year and three more this year, between whom there seemed to be no communication, which made the process of trying to explain things excruciating; no one I was dealing with seemed to have a clue what the deal was that they had had with us over the past year, which made the process of trying to explain things excruciating; I dealt with one evident illiterate, which made the process of trying to explain things excruciating; these schmucks actually sent me a check to my former address in Washington, D.C.; I in the end wasted a COLOSSAL amount of time dealing with what ultimately seems to be a "shady" enterprise (as you will see if you look at the e-mail exchanges). So, with that backdrop, feel free to peruse the correspondences from beginning to bitter end for yourselves:

Now, if you want to do something to help me and the site overcome this hit, click here and do something about it:

Well, the loss of our sponsor didn't seem all too "inspirational" to the masses,... :-/ at least not at the moment. [smiley=no.gif]

...

BUT, here on the first "business" day of 2006, the New Year got kicked off nicely by one of the regular supporters of our effort(s) here on "the Gridiron", now THREE-time donor,... (drum roll, please) [smiley=drummer.gif] KillerKingSting a.k.a. Bill Owens! [smiley=clap.gif] His cumulative donations come real close to covering, for example, a year's worth of my news feed costs. We've been up and running for almost three and a half years now and even though that might not sound like a lot, it makes me feel a little bit good when I think of finances in terms of chunks like that. On the other hand, it should also send everybody a wake-up call as to how hard the costs for this site hit my (full-time graduate student/part-time worker) wallet. Look, I'd rather be "in debted" to you all, my fellow Gridironers, each a little bit, and optimistically observe the cup as half-full and continually and constantly filling and being replenished as this thing slowly, but surely climbs towards becoming what appears on the horizon to be a full-fledged business enterprise (made in the image of a(n "anthropically", my made-up word) "right-minded" model, mind you), which will allow me to in turn give back in this back-and-forth mutual exchange of ours, than be further "in debt" with my monolith credit cards, each in big chunks, and pessimistically observe the cup as half-empty with water merely trickling in on rare occasion (and often only after I've held out and giggled my virtually empty coffee can) and a venture ever so slowly grinding apparently and hopefully forward, but perhaps to an eventual, inevitable and unfortunate halt, grinding me (and my finances) up in the process and leaving us all without "the Gridiron" in the end. ... Bill, with his annual donations, gives me hope. I believe that they show not only that he "gets" what I am doing here on "the Gridiron", but also how I am going about it, and truly appreciates it all... to the degree that he makes sure he is doing his part to keep the site alive and, moreover, well (as in making some sort of stride forward every year). Bill, the fact that you "get" what I am up to here and, evidently, see the goodness in it all means so much to me. [smiley=bow.gif] Your MUCH APPRECIATED financial contributions truly help this guy of VERY modest financial means (but) who's trying to "make it happen" here (nevertheless) in a substantial way AND are a substantive (read, NOT lip-service) way of making all of the aforementioned absolutely clear to me. [smiley=touching.gif] Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Isn't it nice to think that with this simple action you've made my day? [smiley=sunny.gif] You've "got" it! You "made the day", so to speak, for a guy who contributes to "making your day" (to some small degree) all year round... with such a simple, and yet very proper gesture (and, surely, it is NOT just Bill's days that I am "making" all year round). Doesn't that alone make donating "worth" it???

WOW,... I collected my mail tonight and got a HUGE PLEASANT surprise. [smiley=havinablast.gif] An old member and friend, kidcrash a.k.a. Brad George, who just returned after a hiatus of over a year, which, mind you, was remarkable enough, steps right back up to the plate with a solid donation. I mean this was so unexpected. Soon after returning, he did ask me for my address, [smiley=wiseguy.gif] but under a total pretense. I did not think it was because he wanted to send me a contribution. Getting this so soon after Bill's, actually for a moment, had me hearkening to It's a Wonderful Life. [smiley=christmascheer.gif] ... [smiley=touching.gif]

You know I've come to know most of the donors well, and there are surely nuances in reasoning behind each of your gifts, consistent with the unique relationship I've built with each of you, respectively. Brad's a guy who, I believe, comes at things from a particularly noteworthy angle. Over and above having enjoyed the site,... on a higher level than you'd expect in this sterile cyberspace we float around in, I think he "gets" me as a person and likes me the person and not just "the Gridiron" guy, though that is surely how he came to know me, and really just wants to help me the person accomplish my goals with what happens to be this site, and I think this kind of donation is proof in the pudding of that. It's surely NOT because of what he's gotten out of the site over the past 15 or so months. This is a guy to whom I want to humbly say, "Thank you, Brad, for helping me." :)

Now, Brad,... stick around, brother! 8-) Over and above your [smiley=money.gif], I... we need you THE PERSON and the positive energy you bring to "the Gridiron". [smiley=yes.gif]

Double J, the Jamo, the Jamester, Walker Boh a.k.a. Jamie Josko coming through yet again with a little scratch to help the site press onward and upward.  Jamie, you already are a big help to me with running the GBRFL2 stats.  That alone is of substantive and invaluable assistance...  You frequent the main boards, join in on most site activities, have given before, you are now a THREE-time donor, [smiley=twothumbsup.gif][smiley=thumbsup.gif] (that's three thumbs up) and have also gotten the "good word" about the site out and are responsible for bringing in a number of solid members.  That's the kind of word of mouth a small site, growing needs.  You are a guy whose impact is largely behind the scenes, like in donating, like in getting people to come over and sign up, like in running the stats for the GBRFL2.  You get little credit relative to the impact you really have.  But, know that all that you do stands you in good stead with me, my friend. [smiley=yes.gif] ... [smiley=bow.gif] ... Oh, and by the way, the fact that you are also a [smiley=broncofan.gif] doesn't hurt matters. ;) ... ;D

IMPORTANT!!!  IMPORTANT!!!  IMPORTANT!!!

Something important to note regarding donating to "the Gridiron"...  I would NOT even ask you all, no less hound you all, about (the importance of) giving BACK to the site if I did not want to "grow" the site.  I would just put up some sort of donations link (something I did not even have for the longest time) and leave it at that.  I mean,... philosophically, I do think that giving BACK/returning the favor should be the mindset of the user, especially of a little ma-'n-pa, corner-store site like this, but I wouldn't push it if all I wanted from this venture was a little hobby site.  The bottom line is that my incessant reminders about having the right attitude toward the site and wanting to give BACK and return the favor is absolutely consistent with my goal of wanting to "grow" the site.  I suppose it's my way of perpetuating the cycle, which the goal is to, little-by-little, widen the "diameter" of.  Furthermore, I seek to provide opportunity for people.  That's why I am always harping on the "co-op" mentality.  The "little" guys can accomplish "BIG" things only if they pull (their resources) together.  At any rate, all this is why I have been, especially in the more remote past when there actually were dudes who actually had the gall to ask me about such matters, vague regarding site expenses.  First of all, bottom, bottom line, those expenses have to be considered against my personal finances, mind you, those of a very soon-to-be (eh-hem [smiley=awwgee.gif]) 35-year-old guy who has returned to graduate school full-time and, thus, only works part-time, who has had to financially take care of his mother and whose wife, being a Korean expatriate, has very limited employment value here in the States even though she has rather high earning power in her home country, having worked her last two jobs in the executive offices of Shell and British Petroleum.  This should not be a picture I should have to paint any more precisely than that.  But, furthermore, the point really is that I am not merely looking to cover expenses with the donations.  I am looking to "grow" the site.  I'm not looking for dudes to go, "Okay.  We've met Steg's bottom line for the year.  We can now stop giving."  And, mind you, all this is not even to mention the time I put in.  In any event, to really make the kind of strides I want to make, such as paying my writers, technical upgrades, "off-site" productions, running pay GBRFL and CBFL leagues, etc., etc., we're talking in the ballpark of a $50,000 shot in the arm. [smiley=ohshit.gif] That's A LOT, I understand.  So, let's put it this way, to take one significant step toward all that, I'm thinking like $10,000. :o Now, mind you, I'm not looking for the current (potential set of) donors to support "the Gridiron" to such degrees.  Why I bring this up... is that some, myself included, mind you, may think, "You're this close, Steg.  Stop with this dink-and-dunk donations BS and just go get yourself a business loan, and shift it into high-gear," after all, the one thing I do have is pretty good credit.  Well, yous got to know... I just can't do that.  As per the above, my finances are extremely precarious:  I've got student loans out the wazoo, growing practically exponentially every year, fairly significant credit card debt, a widowed 70-year-old mother fighting to get back into the workforce because of her own financial woes that I am, as an only child, still helping with (somehow), and, mind you, no "family", currently or on the horizon, to show for it (so, please, anybody who talks to me on occasion, no more questions regarding when Gino and I anticipate having our first child).  That's, at least, the long and short of it.  So, I do all I can do,... take a couple baby steps every year... while continually operating in the red... and watching other "better-funded" (but not necessarily "better") sites (potentially) motor past me.  Ultimately, it's all good.  I have spoken in confidence with people who have become my "right-hand men" here on the site, and I've said all along that we're a freight train bearin' down on the rest, but "our time" will probably not come for eight to ten years (from August 2002 when I opened shop, that is).  The impetus behind this post at this time, though, is, besides, of course, once again stressing the importance of donations in general, a rather BIG project that's been in the works here for over a year now, one that could in '07 lead to the kind of revenue I mentioned above ($10,000 to $50,000) and really jump-start "the future" here.  The way things are going in my life right now, however, I am pretty sure I am going to need monetary assistance to, at least, "jump-start it" or, perhaps, "make it happen", period (either that or serious "cold sales" assistance,... but NOBODY wants to do that,... right? [smiley=whistle.gif] ... [smiley=shrug.gif]).  I will post all of the details soon, so, please, be on the lookout for a thread regarding this "big project" here on "the Sidelines" sometime over the next month or so (hopefully).

IMPORTANT!!!  IMPORTANT!!!  IMPORTANT!!!

Boy,... with the lack of donations and the (almost inevitable) demise of the magazine project (for this year) and in light of past posts during times when donations were rolling in telling me how donations are an indication that I am doing a good job 'round here, I was starting to wonder if, perhaps, I'm not anymore... :'( I know that I, like any of you, I'm sure, would not want to continue doing something I didn't think I was doing well.  I try really hard around here...  I hope the day never comes when I('m in a position to) feel I'm not cutting the mustard anymore... :-/ That said, I was starting to think [smiley=thinking.gif] what the dearth of donations (coupled with the demise of the magazine) was telling me.  I don't ask for much...  I never was to charge membership fees or sell my site out to obnoxious advertisers...  I just know that, even with the one sponsor we have that I had to (unnecessarily) bust my ass to re-retain (as you all should recall), as site costs slowly but steadily increase, if donations go down, that means I'll be spending more and more and, deep-down, I know that ain't gonna fly...

BUT, alas, someone did step up and offer me a BIG "substantive" pat on the back.  The only thing, though, is, he's already the most active contributing member on the site.  He's done articles and team reports, already made healthy donations, and is on the brink of "moving up to the next belt" if you follow!  Heck, a fifth to a tenth of his very own donation here should go right back to him!  All of that having been said, he's given me this fantastic donation and, besides its helping me with costs, he's made my day [smiley=sunny.gif] and reassured me that I am doing a pretty darn good job 'round this joint!!!  So, more than anything, frankly speaking, THANK YOU, Philster a.k.a. Jeff West for brightening my morning, especially at a time when I was losing a little hope!!! [smiley=bow.gif]

TWO thumbs up this time!!! As the days to "the BIG hit" count down, one donor, GBRFLer Drew Rosenhouse a.k.a. Mark Hahn, kicks it up a notch to the "two-timer" level, and our list of contributors grows by another, cwhams a.k.a. Charles Hamilton. I want to thank you both for stepping up to the plate at this time when I so need it. The old credit card is about to take yet another SLAM, and I appreciate those of you who step up and are willing to take some of the brunt. The first BIG SLAM actually came in May, and I was dismayed at the dearth of assistance I received at that time. :-/ This, though, is the BIGGER hit and, moreover, is for a most fundamental need of ours, our web hosting. So, Mark, Charles, I applaud you both [smiley=clap.gif] for seeing the need and substantively doing what you reasonably could to help!!! [smiley=bow.gif] Thank you both for the tangible assistance and, even more so, the intangible appreciation of my efforts it conveys! Your contributions have made my day! [smiley=sunny.gif]

My day hath been made yet again!!!  If each of you only knew how good these donations made me feel because they are a "substantive" reflection of the deep appreciation you have of my efforts,... [smiley=touching.gif] ... [smiley=havinablast.gif] I am sure you all would step right up!  So, by all means, use your imaginations...  Become part of the group of people who make my day... in return for my site's being apart of yours all year round!  And, make a "substantive" impact on the site you claim to love...  ANYWAY, this time the [smiley=twothumbsup.gif] go out to GBRFLer DB a.k.a. Dave Bohrer for a TREMENDOUSLY generous monetary gift!!! [smiley=bow.gif] There was MUCH appreciation shown here, especially in light of his wife and he having their first babba-room-babba [smiley=newbie.gif] just a week or so ago!  You do what you can, and he did,... and I MUCH appreciate it!!!  Thank you, Dave, for appreciating the site and "giving ME a hand",... so to speak! And,... a THIRD day in a row the sun shines down on "the Gridiron", this time courtesy of our one and only Cheryl Wall a.k.a. Callie!  It just came in the mail today!  Once again, a very GENEROUS contribution... from someone who already gives so much in the way of team reports, thoughtful posts and participation. [smiley=bow.gif] To be honest with yous, I REALLY needed the pick-me-up...  We are still without internet access at home, and when I went to pack up and head home from the computer station here at school yesterday afternoon, I realized I was missing my keys...  I immediately remembered where I had left them, in the nearby bathroom two hours prior on my way in.  RAN there,... BUT... NO! [smiley=no.gif] So, since signing off with my last post yesterday,... I've been rather frantic and in a pretty beat frame of mind (still am).  I've overturned every rock, called every possible outlet... to no avail.  Some weirdo is out there with all MY keys, car, new place, etc.  Doubt if it will amount to anything... except the major inconvenience I endured yesteday...  I have duplicates of every one of them, so... it looks like I'll have to make yet another set... :-/ It just stinks to think that someone would do that, and I just can't help beating myself up... [smiley=key.gif] ... :'( So, Callie, it was nice receiving this today... though I knew it was coming...  So,... if anyone wants to make me feel really better with a surprise contribution, PLEASE go right ahead... and follow this FOUR-time donor's lead...  That's right!!!  You read it right!!!  Cheryl has become our official FIRST-ever FOUR-TIME donor!!!  That's two thumbs up squared... [smiley=twothumbsup.gif] [smiley=twothumbsup.gif] Now, THAT's makin' "a difference"!!! [smiley=yes.gif] Check it out yourself:

http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/donate.htm!!!

It's a thing of beauty! [smiley=touching.gif] It tells me loud-n-clear [smiley=loudnclear.gif] that my efforts here are appreciated!!!  Means A LOT coming from someone who's an integral part of that effort, no less!!!

Well,... well,... well...  BW a.k.a. Jim O'Dell AND sk a.k.a. Todd Webster take it upon themselves to EXTEND the streak to FIVE DAYS!!! [smiley=twothumbsup.gif] ... [smiley=bow.gif] Might we be "on the brink" here of lift-off???  Between this and our member count going through the roof here lately,... me thinks [smiley=awwgee.gif] we just might be leaving the "T-minus" stage behind us and heading into "lift-off"! [smiley=headbanger.gif]

Again, just to put this all into perspective...

If just 100 members contributed a measly $10 each per year to the effort, we'd just about be covering overhead costs (this, of course, is not factoring in my or anybody's "time",... but, hey,... it wouldn't be bad)...  If (after a while) that grew to just 200 members contributing (around the lower-end of what people are these days) just $20 per year, we'd be covering overhead... and HAVE OUR MAGAZINE!  That's the "reality" that's within our grasp!!!

Also, I have made mention, most notably on this thread http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=58;action=display;num=1107456609, of what it takes to be the "real deal" on "the Gridiron @FantasyFootballer.com"...  And, while posting regularly on our main three boards, doing fantasy-specific team reports or FF articles, and getting the word out in the regular course of your lives (#'s 1, 2, and 4 on that page linked to there) are all ways of making the site and our effort here "what it IS," making (even just modest) financial contributions (as outlined above) is what will determine "what WILL COME of our beloved site and project here," "what it WILL BECOME" as opposed to just "what it is" at present.  So, while I, of course, value each and every little thing people do to help make this place and the project that drives it what it is, donations are what make the difference in the long run.  So, over and above cash being cash, which, of course, is nice in and of itself, [smiley=greedy.gif] ... [smiley=awwgee.gif] but isn't merely what I'm after here, mind you,... [smiley=nono.gif] in this sense that [smiley=money.gif] is what will drive the future of FantasyFootballer.com combined with the "substantive" appreciation of the site and, as such, my efforts donations show me, of the four outlined ways of "contributing" to the site donating is far-and-away #1.  So, to recap this IMPORTANT information, there are three levels (I've covered above) that donations "help" the effort and "affect" my mindset:  1) at the bottom level, cash is cash, which is cool in and of itself; it pays for stuff; 2) donations show "substantive" appreciation of the site and ME, which inspires me to press on with "the Gridiron" project; 3) donations are what will, at least early on, determine the future of FantasyFootballer.com and perhaps the futures of some individuals.  BUT, there is actually a fourth level, which may be the MOST important, i.e. represent the "BIGGEST picture":  4) donations indicate that people are buying into (quite literally, I suppose) that CO-OP mindset I harp on as being the BEST path to (BIG-time) success open to us.

The reason I wanted to get this out there here and now is because, as I stated above, we may just be in or at least VERY close to "lift-off" (to the next level).  And, what I want to make sure everybody understands is that faithfully posting to our main three boards on a regular basis, writing for the site, and/or getting the "good word" about "the Gridiron" out to the masses in your daily lives ARE NOT substitutes for making financial contributions!  If that is the impression you've been working under, consider yourself, as of this post, disabused of that notion.  As I've outlined in detail above, making a donation, especially at this point in the ballgame where we are about to enter our fifth year, is by far the single BEST way to make the GREATEST impact on what we're doing here, and it is only natural that that is how it is going to weigh in my mind (again, at this stage of the ballgame).

Anyway, BIG KUDOS to Jim and Todd for not waiting to the last minute, mind you, to extend our donations streak to FIVE DAYS!!!

IT IS!!! [smiley=booya.gif] And, our list of donors grows longer with this one... Oakland4life a.k.a. Kevin Anderson steps up with a healthy first donation! Thank you, man! [smiley=bow.gif] As many of our donors are, you have been a welcomed contributor. Your posts on the boards are insightful, kind and courteous, just what I want "the Gridiron" to be about, and your work last season on the FF-specific team report for one of your team's [smiley=warrior.gif][smiley=pirate.gif][smiley=skull.gif] most hated rivals, the Chiefs, is solid. This financial assistance is the icing on the cake,... BUT, as I outline in my post right above, while from the perspective of you it is icing, from the perspective of the site it is batter!!! [smiley=spchef.gif] ... [smiley=lickinmychops.gif]

I must say that I'm loving seeing this co-op [smiley=huddle.gif] mentality take... If this continues, we'll be well on our way come '07. [smiley=yes.gif] On the note [smiley=note.gif] of continuing this,...

...is "DAY 7", i.e. "ONE WEEK", i.e. "WEEK 1", possible??? Who's going to make it happen??? (Just as a side note, [smiley=note.gif] I considered, just for a milisecond, holding Todd's donation of yesterday back to keep things going today if need be,... but conscience kicked in and the old Stegger opted to "keep it real", [smiley=awwgee.gif] and, lo and behold, no need. :)  ...  It's ultimately better and more satisfying that way, anyway. In life, there really is no faking success.)

I AM speechless...  You guys are leaving me speechless... [smiley=thumbsup.gif] Today, the SEVENTH day in this incredible "streak" we're experiencing here and making for ONE FULL WEEK of donations has been covered by one, Chumpzilla a.k.a. Ray Matty, who is now the second to join the ranks of FOUR-time donors! [smiley=clap.gif] ... [smiley=bow.gif] Ray, and all you guys and gals who have thus far stepped up during this run, my humble appreciation cannot really be captured adequately in words.  Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you! [smiley=touching.gif] ... :) Another day made in the Stegeman household...  Will anybody step up yet again and make Steg's tomorrow and make for an eighth day of the streak??? Well, thanks to Rammin' [smiley=ram.gif] Rick Gould, our esteemed member and Rams correspondent rickgpin, another donation has just been processed to get "Day Eight" of "the streak" out of the way early... for you guys back on the east coast at least, just after midnight for me out here in the middle of the Pacific.  This has been a tremendous experience for me.  The "substantive" appreciation I'm being shown is overwhelming. [smiley=touching.gif] Here it is the day I have to pay the biggest and most important of our bills and we are on "DAY EIGHT STRAIGHT" of this run of donations!  I am happy, [smiley=dancin.gif] but I, too, am humbled. It be true...  It be true...  The old Primer here was takin' care of this while I was over here "rattling my tin cup" yet again above.  Unreal how that works... :-X Gene Nestro, his real name, brings A LOT to the site besides his VERY generous and OBVIOUSLY appreciative financial contributions, donation amounts that he has matched or, I think, EXCEEDED with his donation this time.  W[smiley=ohshit.gif]W!!!  Gene, thank you so much for this substantive,... nay,... "substantial" show of appreciation. [smiley=bow.gif] You MUST REALLY appreciate my efforts here.  It "shows"!!!  It was a VERY [smiley=shamrock.gif] LUCKY day FOR ME when, way back on that fated day on a rare visit to FFToday at that point, I bumped into you. [smiley=stpat.gif]

So,... with that we have reached "DAY NINE" of "the streak"... just in time.  Can we take this thing to DOUBLE DIGITS???  Is a "DAY... [smiley=drummer.gif] 10" on the horizon on the morrow???  If you want to make this happen, click the link below to see how:

Title: Re: Site Donors
Post by StegRock on Jul 15th, 2006, 10:49pm
UN-BE-LIEVABLE!!! Loooooooooong story... I've been blindsided... in a good way, and floored! But, bottom line, with just about an hour and 45 minutes left on the clock (EST), in a most UNforeseeable, chances-off-the-charts way, a 10th DAY for "the streak" has arrived, after all. [smiley=thumbsup.gif] The "good guys" are coming out of the woodwork here (though I MUST admit that this is an ABSOLUTELY FREAK event that occurred to save "the streak" this time; I hope tomorrow doesn't require such [smiley=angel.gif] Divine [smiley=pray.gif] [smiley=spjesus.gif] intervention [smiley=priest.gif] ... [smiley=fingerscrossed.gif], moreover, at such a late hour [smiley=ontheclock.gif] and by someone so... off-the-beaten-track... as opposed to one of our regulars who gets so much out of the site). The short version of the story,... I MET one of our Gridironers today [smiley=jawdroppin.gif] (I don't break that smiley out too often, but at times like this...),... and at a natural point in our conversation (he was asking me how I make anything off the site) mentioned what's been happening with the donations here as of late,... and,... well,... he decided right there on the spot to go "Hawaii [smiley=sailin.gif] [smiley=palmtree.gif] [smiley=surfing.gif] 5-O" on me... if you follow! Given the whole scenario, I don't know how much we'll see of this chap around here (probably not much), but, at least, right now, in this "one" opportunity that presented itself to him, he decided to step up and make a difference. Even if it happens just this one time,... it's like he had one at-bat in the World Series and made the most of it. He's batting 1.000... in my book... [smiley=RIF.gif] and, in fact, here on "the Gridiron" (if yous don't mind me mixin' sports metaphors like that ;D). DOUBLE DIGITS have been reached and DAY 10 hath dawned... courtesy of member WillMeyer a.k.a.,... well,... Will Meyer. [smiley=bow.gif] Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

So, if YOU are thinkin' [smiley=thinking.gif] you want to step up and make DAY ELEVEN a reality... and "make my day" [smiley=sunny.gif] in the process,... PLEASE... don't cut it so close. Credit cards and PayPal work at ALL times of the day, not just late at night (EST)... [smiley=whistle.gif] Here's where to go:

Title: Re: Site Donors
Post by StegRock on Jul 16th, 2006, 5:17pm
Just a heads up, really...  I have a strong feeling that a donation or two is going to be coming in to me by regular mail.  BUT, today is Sunday...  No mail! :-/ I don't know if I am going to receive anything tomorrow, but I surely ain't gonna today,... so if someone wants to at least "get us over the hump" here (like MC did a week ago), it would be much appeciated.  It would be such a shame if I receive a donation tomorrow and even again on Tuesday, but "the streak" was broken just because we ran into a Sunday. :'(

Title: Re: Site Donors
Post by StegRock on Jul 16th, 2006, 8:04pm
Let me add to the post above that it would be especially a shame in light of the UNBELIEVABLE scenario that unfolded yesterday and INCREDIBLE generosity shown to me (on the spot)... While those of you who have stepped up have done so to a degree that has impressed me and I think that we're probably running out of gas here (not that it all adds up to my cutting a profit quite yet (just in case that was entering some of your minds), no less considering the time I spend or the magazine), the total bummerness of having "the streak" broken just because we ran into a Sunday when (I know) we have a donation or two coming in the mail would be,... well,... IMMENSE. [smiley=no.gif]

In any event, given that the tank is running low, at this time I want to especially thank those who have made this run of donations a reality:

DAY 1 - Mark Hahn and Chuck Hamilton
DAY 2 - Dave Bohrer
DAY 3 - Cheryl Wall
DAY 4 - Ken Mesecher
DAY 5 - Jim O'Dell and Todd Webster
DAY 6 - Kevin Anderson
DAY 7 - Ray Matty
DAY 8 - Rick Gould
DAY 9 - Gene Nestro
DAY 10 - Will Meyer
DAY 11 - Jamie Josko

[smiley=bow.gif]

(Edited to add DAY ELEVEN donor!)

I've got to run out right this second,... but I see that a donation has just been made, saving the day or, should I say, saving "the streak" and making for DAY ELEVEN!!! [smiley=twothumbsup.gif] I'll process it and announce it when I get back in a little bit.  Who'd a thunk...?  ...It was one of our guys, who's wife just had a baby, mind you, and already does a TON for the site and, moreover, for ME behind the scenes.  Announcement when I return...

Title: Re: Site Donors
Post by StegRock on Jul 17th, 2006, 11:25am
Let me get this off my chest regarding the fella who stepped up and made DAY 11 happen...  I don't even want this guy's donation...  This guy is a hell of a hard-working chap, and I already am recipient of his diligent hard work here.  This guy helps me with some of the thankless shit that needs to get done behind the scenes around here, most notably doing about 75 to 80% of the work on the GBRFL2... and that's not it.  Taking his assistance to me with thankless shit to new heights, he even helps me over on the forum over at "the English Master".  Of course, this is all besides the factS that he has stepped up to become our new Bears correspondent (not his favorite team; he's unfortunately forever stuck as a Broncos fan) and is a solid contributor on the boards... dating back to the early days.  Furthermore, he has NEVER been a thorn in my side, always appreciating the "bigger picture" of where I am coming from with the running of the site, and, mind you, there have been a couple "Steggie-style close calls", where he ultimately saw whence I was coming, though, but did, without feathers flying, cause me to take pause on a point or two.  However, most directly related to the goings on on this thread, HE JUST MADE A DONATION SIX MONTHS AGO and is a FOUR-time donor!!!  Most importantly, though, he and his wife just had a baby about a month ago, and I know (based on something he humbly let slip in a conversation we had around then) that, though they're fine, he's in just a bit of a pinch.  I just wish he made his donation for like something like $5 or $10, something that wouldn't be "insulting" (as if anything, NO LESS FROM HIM, would be) and yet register on the radar, so to speak.  BUT, he didn't.  I just thank God he didn't go unnecessarily over the top or anything.  Anyway, without further ado, THANK YOU Walker Boh a.k.a. Jamie Josko a.k.a. my friend,... who I have made right here on "the Gridiron". [smiley=bow.gif] ... :'(

Based on what Jamie did here, I'd like to frame the situation with donations in a way I've never thought to before...  If I received just $10 (not that that was all Jamo gave here) 365 days a year... starting now, my costs would be covered and then some, and WE'D HAVE OUR MAGAZINE IN '07 (without all the song and dance like I was going through earlier this offseason); make it $20... and forget about it,... we're in business (figuratively and literally,... staffers and writers start gettin' paid... and so on)!!!

So, anybody interested in making DAY TWELVE happen or do you just want to, instead of step up, sit back and let this streak, which could take us to the next level, end???

Title: Re: Site Donors
Post by StegRock on Jul 17th, 2006, 9:49pm
Okay,... guys...  On my way out here, I just checked my mail, and neither of the donations I am expecting to be receiving by mail came in today (one, I am almost sure of as it's coming from a current two-time donor who's always sent his by regular mail; the other, I am less confident about as it's coming from a guy who's never donated before but inquired right here on this thread a couple days ago). :-/ Anyway, from now I will be pretty much OUT and about until around midnight (EST), so Mr. StegConscience won't be here haunting you all all evening and reminding you that the clock's [smiley=ontheclock.gif] winding down on making DAY TWELVE a reality...  That said, as this probably will be my last reminder of the day,... I want to say that if no one steps up after how we got through the weekend, with one, maybe two donations on their way via regular mail, that'd be lame... and somewhat of an insult to Jamie, to be honest, as he's the guy who ponied up with 20 minutes left on the (EST) clock last night, which kind of also situates me in an awkward spot ethically speaking if you think it through,... not that Jamie would care, mind you, but... :-/ That all could be taken care of quite affordably by just ONE person who gets good use out of "the Gridiron", though, right???  Well, we'll see... This donation of Tony's technically was made after midnight Eastern Standard Time...  I still count it, though, right, fellas?  It would be an insult to him not to, right?  I am in Hawaii, after all, and Tony is in California, for that matter.  I should just be flexible with this and go by whatever time-zone works to keep "the streak" going, huh? [smiley=yes.gif] Really,... whatchyas think???

Title: Re: Site Donors
Post by StegRock on Jul 18th, 2006, 5:36am
I agree, O4l!  It's still VERY early/the wee-hours for many of you, so KevRock's post is enough of a second opinion.  Really, what choice is there?  To NOT continue it would be a REAL insult to Tony.  It would be tantamount to taking his generosity and intention and throwing it back in his face.  I just think from here on out I will refer to the clock "flexibly", i.e. whatever works.  I'll go by Eastern Standard Time if need be or Hawaii Time if need be or any American [smiley=patriot.gif] time-zone in between if need be. [smiley=yes.gif]

Anyway, Tony, again, differences aside, THANK YOU for stepping up, even if it was just in the nick of time.  I'll cut you slack on that.  After all, you are on the left,... I mean,... ;) west coast.  It was still only like 9:30 p.m. for you, and, in any event, this has allowed me to come to a determination as to how I will go about considering the clock [smiley=ontheclock.gif] from here on out, "flexibly" that is.  You actually have a knack for helping out indirectly.  In any event, the bottom line is that it's the thought that counts, and your are, I know, always well-intentioned, and your intention this time was to make DAY TWELVE a reality, and I'm not going to throw that generous thought and gift away!  I appreciate your presence here on "the Gridiron", and here and now thank you for making for the DAWN [smiley=sunny.gif] of a DOZEN DAYS STRAIGHT of "the streak"! [smiley=bow.gif]

So, the list now stands thusly:

DAY 1 - Mark Hahn and Chuck Hamilton
DAY 2 - Dave Bohrer
DAY 3 - Cheryl Wall
DAY 4 - Ken Mesecher
DAY 5 - Jim O'Dell and Todd Webster
DAY 6 - Kevin Anderson
DAY 7 - Ray Matty
DAY 8 - Rick Gould
DAY 9 - Gene Nestro
DAY 10 - Will Meyer
DAY 11 - Jamie Josko
DAY 12 - Tony Onisko
DAY 13 - ???

Who'll be the next "good guy" to step up?  Remember, as per my thank you message to WB above, amounts do NOT have to be exorbitant to make a difference.  If this streak of ours here doesn't get broken, just $10, again, as per that message above, is really all that's needed.  It's just that that "IF" is a rather BIG one...  It doesn't have to be, though...

Title: Re: Site Donors
Post by StegRock on Jul 18th, 2006, 10:46pm
Fellas,... got some bad news...  I just went down to our mailbox and checked the mail...  Neither of the donations I'm expecting to arrive by regular mail came today. [smiley=no.gif] So, I'm lettin' yous know.  It's pretty late in the going here today, though, for us to realistically think a DAY 13 of "the streak" is going to come to pass.  On the east coast people are already hittin' the hay, for sure.

But, if it does end here, it was a hell of a run, huh?  And, I expect that another one will be commencing soon (though I'm not expecting it to last this long).

I want to again thank all those who were part of this run... [smiley=worship.gif] For those perhaps interested in not letting it die, REMEMBER... the donation does NOT need to be exorbitant.  Something modest and reasonable will do (especially at this point... to keep "the streak" alive)...

Larsman, first off,... THANK YOU for stepping up and wanting to save "the streak"...  Only problem is, which you can kind of glean from my post(s) there above, if your contribution is going to "save 'the streak'", it's going to have to be made via either credit card or PayPal,... the way most are made.  I just can't in good conscience count, toward saving "the streak" that is, a mail-in donation.  You know how many dudes say they're "sending" me something only for it NEVER to arrive.  In fact, it's one (or two (supposed (I hate to say that, but... :-/)) mail-in donations that are holding us up right now.  Anyway, information on placing a site donation can be gotten on the following page:

http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/donate.htm.

If doing it via credit card or PayPal just isn't comfortable for you, that's, OF COURSE, fine.  You don't have to save "the streak" to make a contribution.  If that is the case, just let me know, and I will send you a private message with my address...  Again, thank you... whatever you decide! :)

Well, guys and gals, we are on the verge of TWO STRAIGHT WEEKS of donations thanks to a last-minute save yet again, this time by Larsen89 a.k.a. Tim Larsen, one of our new impact "factor backs" on "the Gridiron"! [smiley=thumbsup.gif] It's not often new guys step up with donations like Tim has done here, but in "the streak", we've had three relative newbies, [smiley=newbie.gif] Chuck, Will and Tim here, answer the call. That means A LOT to me because it indicates that, after almost four years now, guys aren't taking long to "believe" in the "project" that is "the Gridiron @FantasyFootballer.com". [smiley=zenmaster.gif] It also means that our master list of donors is growing...

http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/donate.htm.

And, here are all the Gridironers who have answered the call and contributed to this unbelievable run of generosity...

DAY 1 - Mark Hahn and Chuck Hamilton
DAY 2 - Dave Bohrer
DAY 3 - Cheryl Wall
DAY 4 - Ken Mesecher
DAY 5 - Jim O'Dell and Todd Webster
DAY 6 - Kevin Anderson
DAY 7 - Ray Matty
DAY 8 - Rick Gould
DAY 9 - Gene Nestro
DAY 10 - Will Meyer
DAY 11 - Jamie Josko
DAY 12 - Tony Onisko
DAY 13 - Tim Larsen
DAY 14 - Robert Hovey

[smiley=bow.gif]

We are ONE donation from extending "the streak" to TWO WEEKS!!! [smiley=ohshit.gif] I sure hope at least some one of our generous Gridiron brothers or sisters out there plans to complete WEEK TWO of "the streak" and make for the dawn of DAY FOURTEEN... [smiley=fingerscrossed.gif]

No, it isn't, [smiley=sdscoobydoo.gif]!  In fact, donating to "the Gridiron" is VERY EASY! ;) Thank you very much for this timely contribution, Robert! [smiley=bow.gif] As a matter of fact, I just went down to my mailbox a little bit ago, and, again, neither of the donations I am expecting to come via regular mail arrived. :-/ So, you, Robert, have made DAY FOURTEEN a reality!  And, I, furthermore, thank you for NOT waiting until the last minute and making me sweat it out.  It was nice walking down to the mailbox not taking deep breaths on the way.  Mind you, I don't care when I get them, and, in fact, this one was received in the afternoon, but, boy, morning [smiley=sunny.gif] donations sure are nice.  It's nice having the DAWN of "the streak" coincide with the dawn of the day, so to speak. :D It just seems so... natural...  But, anyway, you've all been generous...  I also want to add that while Robert's donation was modest, it is more than I outline in that last illustration (of the possibilities) I gave.  If a donation in the very reasonable amount of Robert's here today was made every day for one year,... :o WE'D DEFINITELY HAVE OUR MAGAZINE IN '07, [smiley=mustread.gif] in even grander fashion than I'm currently envisioning. [smiley=threed.gif] SO,... is there anyone out there who will answer the call next and put their name on the list?

DAY 15 - ???

I'm on my way out soon...  I just checked my mail...  Nodda...  I'm starting to wonder, I must admit... :-/ Oh, well...

DAY 15 - [smiley=shrug.gif]

If it happens, it happens... [smiley=sunny.gif] If it doesn't, it doesn't...  In either case it has been a WONDERFUL run! :)

Well,... it is after midnight even here in Hawaii, alas,... and "the streak" hath finally been broken... :'( But, it sure was something else. [smiley=thumbsup.gif] It gave me a little something special to look forward to every day, and while we won't get our magazine out of it or anything like that, you guys have surely helped me cover the expenses around here.  Depending on how the rest of the year goes with donations, I may have a chance at putting a number "in the black" on my '07 tax-return forms, which would be a nice benchmark in and of itself.  Ultimately, though, my goal is NOT merely to cover the overhead around here.  Really it is to make enough above and beyond the overhead to be able to do the magazine without having to make cold-calls, which may or may not happen come next spring.  Again, $10 a day for even just 300 days would pretty much get the job done.  As things stand right now, based on the total donations that came by way of "the streak", we cut into that 300 days by about 60 (which, if you do that math,...)...  Not bad!  Just 240 more to go... to get us REALLY rollin'...

At any rate,... I'd like to once again THANK all those who were so generous over the last TWO WEEKS, making this run of donations a reality:

DAY 1 - Mark Hahn and Chuck Hamilton
DAY 2 - Dave Bohrer
DAY 3 - Cheryl Wall
DAY 4 - Ken Mesecher
DAY 5 - Jim O'Dell and Todd Webster
DAY 6 - Kevin Anderson
DAY 7 - Ray Matty
DAY 8 - Rick Gould
DAY 9 - Gene Nestro
DAY 10 - Will Meyer
DAY 11 - Jamie Josko
DAY 12 - Tony Onisko
DAY 13 - Tim Larsen
DAY 14 - Robert Hovey

Well, "the streak" may have ended, but that didn't stop this member's donation from, alas, arriving by mail today. Thank you kidcrash for becoming a three-time donor here on "the Gridiron" and, yet again, not in a small way, might I add. [smiley=greedy.gif] ... [smiley=bow.gif] We wouldn't need too many donations like this to get to the promised land, I tell ya. kc doesn't spend too much time on the site like some of us addicts, [smiley=gonecrazy.gif] but it's quality, not quantity and he is sure the kind of quality guy I like to see plugging [smiley=plug.gif] himself into the "effort" here. It's a pleasure havin' you here, man, and this generous show of appreciation tells me that you get A LOT of pleasure out of the site. :) So, thank you... and you're welcome! ;D

Well, a little surprise comes my way to kick off Labor Day weekend a little early!  A little tip, I'll call it, added to the league fee that one of my GBRFLers sent off to me.  Modest,... but it ALL helps.  Thank you Double D a.k.a. Steve Warner for always getting your league fee in very early and this time including a little extra scratch for the old Stegger. [smiley=bow.gif] If everyone had it in their hearts to give just a little extra the way Steve did here,... well,... the "promised land" wouldn't always seem so far off in the distance.

The list grows...  Another one of our long-timers here has decided to step up... and,... let me say,... make up for lost time!!!  25 to 30 of these kinds of donations,... and, mind you, we are getting there, and we'll be in business with our magazine [smiley=mustread.gif] in '07. [smiley=booya.gif] This time it comes courtesy of DOLFAN a.k.a. Joe Parsons! [smiley=bow.gif] Joe, THANK YOU for not just making a donation of however much, but, moreover, for the amount you did make it for.  I know you have a big family to provide for and kids growing up into the "expensive" years, and I know this is no small sacrifice for you.  It is what it is... [smiley=zenmaster.gif] That makes it that much more meaningful to me. :)

Donors list exists both in the initial post of this thread and here:

Another nice little "tip" from one of my GBRFLers, Drew Rosenhaus a.k.a. Mark Hahn...  It's not much, but, again, it adds up when it comes in numbers.  If every active member here sacrificed the cost of about a (New York ;)) lunch twice a year, we'd be on our way to big-time.  But, patience is a virtue.  As time goes by, with modest, but kind gestures like these, we take steps toward the promised land. My boy D.T. a.k.o."t.G".a. :D Flesh is Fantasy has kicked it up a notch with a nice second donation.  The level of assistance of this donation if given across the board, i.e., by folks using the site to the hilt but whose names do not yet appear on donations page, would do it for "us".  I will admit that, nevertheless, we are approaching a number where I could start considering digging back into my pocket come next spring to make the magazine happen.  We're still quite a ways off,... but we're approaching four digits here [smiley=thumbsup.gif] (if I include StegsList.com sign-ups). Two thumbs goin' out with this post!!!  BIG thank yous to IbdFunk a.k.a. Danny Feder for his second "hearty" [smiley=greedy.gif] donation [smiley=thumbsup.gif] and a dude extending our donors list, first-timer, Art Vandalay a.k.a. Frank Gonzalez [smiley=thumbsup.gif].  This amounted to a SIGNIFICANT step in the direction I am trying hard to "really" get this train headed in.  I'm mean I've been laying the track for some time now, but I am now looking forward to building a station.  The kind of support Danny and Frank have shown here is getting us there. Well,... another Gridironer, a busy one who is a regular poster and, MOREOVER, who has been responsible for our Vikings FF-specific Team Report for over two years now, has given me a hand (and not just this kind, [smiley=clap.gif]; this kind, [smiley=money.gif])!!! :D A hearty thank you this time goes out to captainpurple [smiley=viking.gif] a.k.a. Robert Christenson. [smiley=twothumbsup.gif] It is awesome, man, that you've decided to add your name to the list of great dudes who are helping me get this site where I want it to be, the right way and for the benefit of more than just me.  I have a vision for this place, and your kind gesture here, which expands our donors list by yet another person, is helping me make steps toward the realization of that vision. [smiley=threed.gif] Thank you for that! [smiley=bow.gif]

(And, by the way,... yes, as kec touted up in "the Red Zone", he did order a t-shirt! [smiley=thumbsup.gif])

Well, I might as well do this all in one shot... As of 8:25 last night, Friday night that is for me, the fall semester came, alas, to a screeching halt as I concluded my 80th page of term-paper writing. One more semester left until I hit the midpoint of sorts in my journey here, a point at which I can legitimately call myself StegMaster, though not yet Dr. StegRock, ;) and I now over the next two and a half weeks turn my attention to where the next stop is going to be. [smiley=thinking.gif]

In any event, most notably, as is evidenced by your very eyeballs on this message, we are, after a little nuts and bolts work, [smiley=builder.gif] back up and running,... and I return to belatedly announce good tidings... [smiley=rudolph.gif] that I am MOST appreciative of and happy to announce in light of the "mini St. Patrick's Day disaster" I experienced here during the final week, finals week, of the semester ("mini" mainly because, since this had happened to us before, I this time better knew how to "manage" it, though the timing could NOT have been much worse). [smiley=yikes.gif] Anyway, about a week ago, I did receive a gracious holiday donation from steelkings [smiley=towelwave.gif] a.k.a. Todd Webster, a fella who already gives a bunch to the site by being a regular participant and covering two teams in our FF-specific Team Reports section, and now he is a THREE-time donor to our wonderful site here.  That merits a "three thumbs up"... [smiley=twothumbsup.gif] [smiley=thumbsup.gif]Todd, thank you so much for this substantive expression of holiday good will and appreciation of my efforts! [smiley=bow.gif] Merry Christmas! What a way to "kick [smiley=footballsmiley.gif] off" the season!!! :)

Well, it's been awhile, but a Gridironer hath stepped up.  It's one of my homeboys, so to speak, but I'll take the love... as I know it's genuine.  In terms of the analogy I've used here and there, Drew Rosenhaus a.k.a. Markie Hahn has given up not just... [smiley=pizza.gif] but [smiley=pizza.gif] [smiley=pizza.gif] for the greater good of "the Gridiron".  It's much appreciated, my friend.  Hopefully, there's enough left enough over for the Hahn clan to... [smiley=letsmakeup.gif] [smiley=letsmakeup.gif] [smiley=letsmakeup.gif] [smiley=letsmakeup.gif]

Of course, as I went to log into my credit card processing account, I got slapped in the face, i.e. I got hit up for the account renewal fee there.  My account expires on June 3rd. [smiley=yikes.gif] It's actually a miracle someone gave me a donation by cc to process in time.  If I missed the expiry date, I would have had to pay an extra "maintenance fee" to reopen my account.  So, DOUBLE-thanks, Markie... [smiley=bow.gif] [smiley=bow.gif] That's makin' a difference, and that's how makin' a difference can snowball... [smiley=snowjob.gif] On the other hand, the renewal fee pretty much ate up that donation. :-/

Well, well, well,... who yet again tops,... nay,... puts himself atop "the Gridiron" donors list???  Could it be the guy who puts the West in the East? ;) Yuuup!  After recently adding another bumpkin [smiley=newbie.gif] to the West family mix, he still finds a way to sport "a couple pies" [smiley=pizza.gif] [smiley=pizza.gif] for us guys on the Grid.  Yous know...  Jeff and I have surely had our grappling matches, BUT, make no mistakes about the difference this guy has made to this site. [smiley=yes.gif] Thanks a bunch, Jeff! [smiley=cheers.gif]

If just 17 more guys gave it up the way Jeff and Mark have (I'm including myself as a symbolic third, making it 20 guys), we'd be on our way.  I'd surely consider throwing that grand that I say I want to keep for myself back into the pool and see if we couldn't get that magazine off the ground (a.s.a.p., i.e., we still could get a late publication out by mid-Augustish, which is the key time anyway, if this all came together right now). Make that 16... thanks to cwhams [smiley=pig.gif] a.k.a. Chuck Hamilton! [smiley=bow.gif] C-dub has been a wonderful chap to have around the site.  Besides being a solid donor (for those in the know here, cw has matched the prior two donations [smiley=twothumbsup.gif]), Chuck generously joined Steg's List (http://www.stegslist.com) and has been a great, thoughtful presence on the site.  From an administrator's perspective, [smiley=threed.gif] he's been a pleasure to have around.  ...  I'm also thinkin' we're going to get him goin' on the Panthers [smiley=pinkpanther.gif] report that he requested a ways back here in short order.  You still up for it, ham...ster? ;) ... That's great news, cw-[smiley=pig.gif]!  We'll be in touch [smiley=phone.gif] soon! [smiley=yes.gif]

BUT, first, for some MORE GREAT news...  Just got some love two days in a row,... and it's on the same scale... if you're following!!! [smiley=twothumbsup.gif] So, make it 15!!! [smiley=clap.gif] This time it is good, old rickgpin a.k.a. Rick Gould, who is a three-time donor, a purchaser of a few t-shirts, our team correspondent for the St. Louis Rams, and an all-around good guy. [smiley=yes.gif] I want to thank "The Rick" for being such a wonderful presence on the site. [smiley=bow.gif]

Whether or not donations (can) continue to flood [smiley=drown.gif] in at this rate, I don't know.  BUT, these solid amounts are inspirational.  They are definitely the kinds of numbers that could get us to the "promised [smiley=spjesus.gif] land" (of the magazine) someday.  Right now, though, they, at least, can help us get out of the red for a second year in a row. [smiley=havinablast.gif] I hope there are others out there who want to make a difference and get this co-op really rollin'! [smiley=rollin.gif]

I suppose it is fair to call it THREE days in a row (mainland time).  We're putting together a mini streak here... [smiley=hmmmm.gif] Extending the "streak" this time is Larsen89 a.k.a. Larsman a.k.a. Tim Larsen.  Thank you for your generosity, man! [smiley=bow.gif] Every little bit helps ease the pain.  I appreciate your giving a little back to help the cause... and help me, the "person" :) who gives the cause an effect.  Let's see if we can't keep filling that [smiley=pig.gif]gy bank, fellas... Okay,... I'll take "two-a-days"!!! [smiley=pumped.gif] Especially from three-timers!!! [smiley=twothumbsup.gif][smiley=thumbsup.gif] This time it's courtesy of a thoughtful little something from MordecaiCourage a.k.a. Ken Mesecher.  Good show, mate! [smiley=cheers.gif] Thanks for the help! [smiley=bow.gif] Every little bit counts...  If these kinds of donations (i.e. [smiley=pizza.gif] if you follow) came in even just once a week (the point is regularly), it would make a dent.  As it stands, it's a help to the old Stegger. [smiley=peedog.gif] ...  I'd love to see this kept up... [smiley=stilldunno.gif] ... [smiley=fingerscrossed.gif]

Title: Re: Site Donors

Well, I guess we can make FOUR days in a row!!! [smiley=ohshit.gif] AND, given the "generosity" of this donation considered along with the prior two, we can bring the "make-a-difference" count down from 15 to 13.  This is thanks to three-time donor and Redskins correspondent DB a.k.a. Dave Bohrer.  Thanks a bunch, old friend! [smiley=bow.gif] I know how you feel about my efforts around here... and, moreover, me as a person. [smiley=touching.gif] Backatchya!  You'd fund the whole damn thing if you could, I'm sure.  With your attempts to "make a difference", though, bro, you're surely putting your finger HEAVILY on the scales. [smiley=options.gif] ... [smiley=yes.gif]

I just can't wait until we ALL together, co-operatively tip THE scales... in favor of "the Gridiron" (way)!!! [smiley=ontheclock.gif] Won't that be a great day...  Why not make it happen??? [smiley=idontknow.gif]

Title: Re: Site Donors

YIKES!  It's one thing when a dude steps up with a, let's say, "GENEROUS" donation.  It's another when he steps up with another one.  And, yet, it's another when said dude's second one follows the first by less than a month! [smiley=ohshit.gif] This is simply humbling.  Again, I would prefer to receive the amount this guy has donated here over the last month from, let's say, four guys.  I'm hoping to inspire us little guys to see and, moreover, enact the power of pooling (financial) resources.  But, with donors not coming through in droves, I have to be thankful for the blessing of donors who come through substantially. [smiley=yes.gif] Thank you SO MUCH, cwhams a.k.a. C-Dub a.k.a. Chuck Hamilton! [smiley=bow.gif] Thanks for making a difference. :) The e-mail exchange we had today and what you expressed to me therein truly made my day. [smiley=sunny.gif] That's making a difference in and of itself...  This is all not to mention the timing of C-Dub's contribution.  I know he was responding to my frustrated "cries" on the "Paying the Bills" thread.  He genuinely cares and decides to make a, what I am sure he considers, small sacrifice vis-a-vis the many sacrifices [smiley=builder.gif] he knows I am making to "make it happen" here...

Title: Re: Site Donors

Just a thought and I know that everybody gets caught up with life, family, bills and so forth...but perhaps a few guys and gals could step forward with just a small contribution to help offset the costs of hosting the web ?.?.?  Yes, there are $$$ involved with running the site and just a few more folks giving just a few bucks can help.

My wife and I (mostly my wife) just came off running a political campaign for a small two county office.  I think the most difficult part of the campaign was asking folks for financial support.  Yet that's what it takes to make things happen :o

If you don't have the dough, step up and be a correspondent, make a few posts, contribute in any way you can.  ;) ;D ;)

Thanks,
cwhams

Boy, with all the hubbub this week on "the Gridiron" (and in my life in general), I failed to announce a healthy donation I received on Monday via the old-fashioned way, regular mail, from Callie a.k.a. Cheryl Wall.  It made my day [smiley=sunny.gif] when I opened that mailbox.  Moreover, it fueled me as I entered this period that I knew would cost me, at least, a few sleepless nights.  It has thus far.  I mean I go right from CBFL/Steg's List prep to the "work" that is required over in the Fantasy reports section of the site, getting those promoted who've earned it and bringing in the new writers.  Your donation, Callie, SUBSTANTIVELY helps me press on, which is really what I need at busy times like these, moreover, the bills have just kicked in... and, this year especially, kicked my ass.  (I'm thinking I'm going to have to sell the FantasyFootballer.com [smiley=cruisin.gif] just to keep our heads above water.)  AND, FURTHERMORE, I know, like last year, in all likelihood, you are not going to spare any "expense" and be signing up over at StegsList.com once it opens.  Thank you for your compassion, thoughtfulness and kind consideration of my efforts here! [smiley=bow.gif] I apologize greatly for the delay is posting. :-[

What I am going to update this thread here with today is not donations per se, but, in some sense, in spirit they are.  C-dub a.k.a. cwhams [smiley=pig.gif] a.k.a. Chuck Hamilton and rickgpin a.k.a. The Rick [smiley=goatee.gif] a.k.a. Rick Gould have both signed up over at StegsList.com (http://www.stegslist.com) for the "Total Package" AND, furthermore, waived whatever discounts would have applied to their sign-up.  Their generosity and implicit understanding of "what it takes" to run this joint means something to me... and, moreover, to the site...  Thanks, fellas! :)

Well, we have another FIVE-TIMER in da house (check out the donations page:  http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/donate.htm),... one who, much like Chuck and Rick mentioned above, accompanied his HEALTHY donation with a StegsList.com (http://www.stegslist.com) sign-up,... sparring no expenses and signing up for "Total Package" no less!!! [smiley=clap.gif] That's the kind of "substantive" and "substantial" appreciation and gratitude that can propel us to the next level,... you know,... the one that gets me to a position where I can pay staffers and get us those FantasyFootballer.com home offices on the Big Island... [smiley=palmtree.gif] ... ;) In all honestly, it's funny how wonderfully,... nay,... wondrously that works...  I give you all something of substance to enjoy...  You all give me something of substance to work with,... i.e. to put back into the site...  WE GROW!!!  ANYWAY,... this time around my day, actually this was Sunday, was made by PrimeTime a.k.a. A little somethin', sumthin' appended to his GBRFL league fee from DirkDiggler a.k.a. Steve Warner.  Thanks for the help, man!  Every dime helps, and you've done so four times now. :)

Title: Re: Site Donors
Post by StegRock on Sep 2nd, 2007, 11:16pm
Well, I am here tonight to report TWO shows of gratitude I've experienced over the last few days...

First, a nice donation, moreover, appended to a StegsList.com (http://www.stegslist.com) sign-up from now FIVE-time donor Chumpzilla a.k.a. Ray Matty! [smiley=bow.gif] A flow of revenue at this level is what can get us to the promised land.  I know Ray gets a lot of enjoyment out of the site,... and he shows it! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Second, we have received a HUGE donation, I believe the BIGGEST to date, [smiley=woohoo.gif] from now three-time donor (who should probably be bumped up to a five-timer) IbdFunk a.k.a. Danny Feder.  When I opened the envelope that I knew contained the check for his GBRFL league fee and perhaps a little extra scratch as a donation to "the Gridiron" and saw the amount,... my jaw dropped...
[smiley=jawdroppin.gif]

15 of these, and the costs of the magazine would be COVERED!!!  20 of them, and EVERYTHING would be covered.  And, I'm thinking,... one of these a year,... is it really that much vis-a-vis what the vision for this site is???  But, I digressed.  I'll be addressing that more thoroughly here soon enough.  ANYWAY, THANK YOU, [smiley=worship.gif] Danny!!!  I'm sure I speak for the group when I say that... [smiley=yes.gif]

Well, another [smiley=worship.gif] FIVE-timer tops the donor's list, http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/donate.htm.  Mind you, this fella has ALREADY given this year, actually not very long ago, but with his annual GBRFL league fee, he couldn't help but send a little extra, another... [smiley=pizza.gif] towards the cause,... so to "smiley". ;D Drew Rosenhaus a.k.a. Mark Hahn, thank you for your grand generosity, my old friend.  I did NOT expect this from you.  I know you and your situation.  While you may not be tight, tight,... I know you are not made of money, either, and have a family.  The thing is,... I also know that you do this because of the person you are,... not the money you do or do not have.  That's the way it's supposed to work.  People nickel and diming it,... so to speak,... relatively speaking,... aren't who are going to get us to the "cooperative promised land".  You, my friend, are making a dent.  In any event, thank you for, at least, making my day!!! [smiley=sunny.gif]

Well, we gots another site supporter...  One of our newbies Whammer a.k.a. Chad Gillingham has decided to step up and help me shoulder some of the financial brunt it takes to run this joint, and in no small way, mind yous!  This was a substantial contribution!  Thanks a BUNCH, man! [smiley=bow.gif] You've been a hell of a friend over the last number of months.  I know you are very thankful for my having gotten you into the hobby, and I am glad you are cutting your fantasy football teeth with me and here on "the Gridiron", BUT, make no mistakes, it is I who is the "I" in, or should I say, on the I.O.U.  For me to have observed the excitement in your eyes back during the CBFL [smiley=crystalball.gif] Draft was really gift enough.  The fact is, though,... and I know you are in tune with this, Chad,... that there is a bottom line, and that that sentiment, while all well and good, doesn't provide the "oil" to keep the gears turning around here.  I thank you for your walking on over with your oil can and putting a squirt on the gears. ;D It is a huge help, and it is what helps keep this place running smoothly.

Now,... Chad,... go and tend to Chester... [smiley=onit.gif] ... [smiley=viking.gif]

GBRFLer Flesh is Fantasy a.k.a. Dave Trout works his way up the "Site Donors Standings", putting himself today in the three-time donor category with a nice "pizza+" contribution! [smiley=bow.gif] Thank you very much, my friend, for your generosity.  It helps, man,... and gives me a little, much-needed pick me up right now. :)

It's been a decent day today THANKS TO our GBRFLers...

One GBRFLer jumps into second-place among GBRFLers with a BIG :o donation, his second in just the last three months. [smiley=thumbsup.gif] DB a.k.a. Dave Bohrer, you da man, man!  THANK YOU for your ever-present understanding of all I put into this stuff and the sacrifices I make that make it all happen. [smiley=bow.gif]

Now, another GBRFLer has put himself in the game, and by extending his hand of generosity, extended our list of donors by yet another good soul. [smiley=thumbsup.gif] Thanks, T-Rave a.k.a. Travis Cooper, for pitching in, brother! [smiley=bow.gif]

ALL of this is so very timely right now...  Leave it to my GBRFL homeys! [smiley=yes.gif]

And, YAGSU (Yet Another GBRFLer Steps Up)... [smiley=clap.gif] with YAHD (Yet Another Healthy Donation), mind you.  Expenses were not spared so that this site's coming at my "expense", so to speak, could be further minimized.  But, as he put it to me, it's really just to show his appreciation for ALL the time and effort that he knows goes into making this all happen.  Heck, I've been so focused on plowing ahead on things here this morning that I haven't even sat down and just "enjoyed" the games here today.  Point being, this guy's very "substantive" [smiley=money.gif] show of appreciation makes up some for the grief.  It lets me know to keep pressing ahead.  So, this morning I thank DOLFAN a.k.a. Joe Parsons [smiley=bow.gif] for lending me a hand and brightening my day. [smiley=sunny.gif] Thank you, man! :)

GBRFLer pays league fee includes nice "tip" for the web site...  Thank you very much, Art Vandalay a.k.a. Francisco a.k.a. Fresca, a.k.a. Frank Gonzalez! [smiley=bow.gif] Your appreciation of the league and the site I know is great, and I appreciate your showing it in a "substantive" way that helps ease the ever-increasing (in light of the web site) financial burden on me.  This kind of support helps out in ways that are more "tangible", BUT I thank you, too, for the subtler ways you have shown me your appreciation, as well. :) This will help my Sunday ('round here) get off on the right foot and make it a little brighter. Well, well, well...  Ho, ho, ho... [smiley=santa.gif] On Christmas Eve Eve, the Christmas "spirit" hath finally kicked in here on our "beloved" site, at least for one good soul (please pardon and forgive me for the slight cynicism contained there).  Todd Webster a.k.a. steelkings lived up to his word (which means a lot) and came up with a few bucks for the site and the old guy tryin' to keep the place (and himself [smiley=drown.gif]) afloat, in fact a few bucks more than he said he would...

If you are reading this, I challenge you all to match my 20 bucks. Whats twenty bucks?

For those who need the help

1.  Scroll up to the top of the home page.
2. Click on the Gridiron Store.
3. Click on the donations page.
4. Choose visa or Master card.
5. Enter your info and select an amount.

Thank you very much, Todd, for the gift and, moreover, for following through on your word. :) Boy, it would be great if this spurred on a "flurry" of donations, [smiley=snowjob.gif] making for a "white Christmas", so to speak (i.e. "green Christmas"), ;) here on "the Gridiron". [smiley=pray.gif] But, seriously,... please, please, come through if you can.  The site is slowly (but surely) becoming a heavy weight, and, frankly speaking, I'm "spent", literally and figuratively. :-/

P.S. (Todd, I think I'm gonna have a little surprise for you come later this evening.  Be on the lookout...) [smiley=threed.gif]

Well, before '08 arrives and '07 departs (this donation was actually received on the 26th), another good-hearted Gridironer opens up his wallet and, in the process, his heart to give back NOT a little bit to a site he gets a lot from but also gives a lot to.  He is a CBFLer.  I mention this specifically because in a way I think this chap thinks of this as paying for the league, the opportunity to play in a premium league and also all the work that goes into it all year long.  He is also our Rams Correspondent, and he is one of our best, producing timely, insightful, well-written reports... for a couple years now.  I mention this because I too think that he sees his donation as "paying his dues".  While, of course, I am VERY grateful to him for his voluntary efforts, I truly believe that he is sensitive to the other side of the coin, the side that is the opportunity that he is getting.  Yes, he is contributing, but he is also receiving an opportunity.  In light of all the effort he has made for this site, this kind of mindset and financial contribution speaks well to this guy's humility, what I, in the "position" I am in here, value greatly.  It is his kind of effort and donations that make me want to press on with this venture.  This is in stark contrast to those who (behind the scenes) like to point out to,... nay,... outline point-by-point for me all that they do for the site, which typically pretty much pales in comparison to someone like this fellow, whose sensibility runs, I believe, like this... the more I do for, the more time I spend on the site, the more I realize ALL that Steg is doing and ALL the time he is spending and has spent here, and, thus, the more I give, the more I want to give.  It's consistent with the philosophy that, if you are really learning, you realize that the more you know, the more you know you don't know, a realization which engenders humility.  Here that kind of mindset translates into the more effort I make here on "the Gridiron", the more I realize that Steg's tank must be running really low and that he needs as much "substantive" encouragement as reasonably fiscally and otherwise possible.  Okay,... without further ado, thank you to a dude who talks little but says a lot with his actions here on "the Gridiron", rickgpin a.k.a. The New Year has gotten off on the right foot.  Well, actually, this substantive and "substantial" donation was made the day after Christmas, [smiley=christmascheer.gif] but due to the hammering out of some of the details I did not put it through until today, New Year's Day.  This chap followed through on his word (you'll see what I mean on another thread), but ultimately told me to do whatever I saw fit with the amount, i.e. take it all just as a straight donation.  In any event, moreover, with this contribution he has raised himself to an eschalon not yet achieved by anyone.  He has become our first-ever SIX-time donor!  Congratulations, [smiley=cheers.gif] Drew Rosenhaus a.k.a. Mark Hahn, and, moreover, THANK YOU for all you have given to help keep this boat afloat for as long as it has and for making yourself our first-ever SIX-time financial contributor! [smiley=bow.gif]

Moving right along to the "bottom line",... of the two BIGGEST bills, one comes due in about three weeks, that would be the all-important web hosting fee, and the other, I must embarrassingly admit, :-[ is already past-due over a month, that is for "The REAL Feed".  Also, within the last month, I paid the bill for credit-card processing, and throughout the year I am paying all kinds of sundry registration and hosting fees.  BUT, RIGHT NOW is when the TWO BIGGIES hit me, and, a bit unbelievably as it has already been very hard on me to stay afloat heretofore, [smiley=drown.gif] this year, vis-a-vis "life", it is going to be even more of a strain.

But, anyway, I'm happy to see one "rapid responder" come through on this plea that I made yesterday quoted above.  This "Gridiron Good Fella" has worked his way up to Five-time Donor status and, in fact, currently sits second on the list.  Thank you VERY MUCH, rickgpin a.k.a. It's nevertheless understood that it's the argument, not the person, that is being attacked. Still, though, at least once that I can think of, I let something slip out of my big mouth [smiley=footinmouth.gif] to this guy during a league conference call that I regretted. :-[ I apologized right away, but I was in the wrong, absolutely. This guy totally forgave me on the spot. The bottom line is that he and I share a great passion for this hobby of fantasy football and an according respect for and appreciation of each other. Well, along with his annual GBRFL league fee, he put some SERIOUS substance to his appreciation of me and my efforts. During this bad economy, and I know this fella isn't made of money, and, in fact, has SIX kids to raise, and he's made a difference-maker of a donation, that is(,) over and above the league fee, which, alone, is substantial and has some scratch embedded in it for me. FF MAGAZINES [smiley=mustread.gif] are made of!!! Well, as most when running for the hills during this "crunch time", this fella simply stepped up to the plate and knocked one out.  No admissions of defeat in the form of "hopeless", "helpless" explanations of what can't be done and, thus, what I shouldn't expect...  Of course, these explanations are almost invariably and somewhat ironically UNaccompanied by anything substantive from the person (admittedly) speaking in the first-person singular.  ...  And, surely no lame-ass back-talk!  Just a taking of the lead!  Just leading by example!  Just genuine appreciation and generosity during this time of great need, and with nothing expected in return.  Just a gift for the heretofore received.  Thank you, C-Dub, Chuck Hamilton,... for stepping up, taking the lead, leading by example, showing your appreciation and expecting nothing back! :) Your support does make a difference!  That kind of support makes a difference!

...

Now, I regrettably feel the need to append a little... [smiley=doseofreality.gif] As, as of late, it has been poignantly pointed out to me that "donations are to the group and to the site, not, so to speak, to me specifically", I feel like it needs to be understood that that "mindset" swings both ways.  I mean,... IF that IS the case, then why am I always the only one thanking our site "supporters" here on this thread???

The GBRFL crew never ceases to amaze me,... [smiley=touching.gif] and I apologize for not getting around to making this post sooner.  At our annual Summer Meeting and Draft this past Sunday, three of the guys pay their ($50) league fee... and then SOME.  (Mind you, three others have already donated.)  In the face of others' letting their donations statuses fall by the wayside, :-/ the GBRFL guys continue to show no quit and climb the list of active donors.  Moreover, it's a show of their generous (in both senses of the word) spirit and deep appreciation of and belief and trust in me, their friendship with me.  Hearkening back to what originally attracted me to this wonderful hobby, keeping in touch and the maintenance of friendships, two of these three guys would very well be at best Christmas card friends at least at this point in life and the other fella, a law-school buddy of one of the guys, I probably wouldn't even know, no less become the friends we have become.  These are substantive friendships that these shows of generosity and appreciation only corroborate.  Thank you, Art Vandalay a.k.a. [smiley=nerd.gif] This year may be a year of taking a step back and surveying things, but I appreciate your attempt here to continue to push it forward, and not just suck it dry. A BIG thumbs up to yet another GBRFLer who stepped it UP with a SUBSTANTIAL donation, along with his $50 league fee mind you!  This guy has made three donations now, but in terms of overall amount, which is really what the "bottom line" on "the Gridiron" is if we are going to make progress, he is among the top givers.  For that I thank IbdFunk a.k.a. Danny Feder!  You da man, and what you do here is so very appreciated! Wow... ;D We're kickin' off the new year fantastically and givin' the old [smiley=wiseman.gif] Stegger some hope [smiley=pray.gif] for the future (in other good news on "the Gridiron" see my latest post on the "Nice FF Sites and Domains" thread "between the 20's (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=56)"). [smiley=yes.gif] And, you know, this guy, despite all the "hubbub" (i.e. [smiley=hammer.gif]) and comings-and-goings or, should I say, (literally ;))  goings-and-comings here this year, has made two donations this 2008-09 season that, at the end of the day, make for, well, a substantively substantial [that's (substance)2 [smiley=ohshit.gif] amount.  I know he just did it as a token of appreciation for the site in general and with baby [smiley=newbie.gif] Monica Marie in mind [smiley=thinking.gif] specifically (explicitly), but the fact of the matter is that these two donations of his, made during these tough economic times, mind you, of which I am not oblivious, are of the amount that appear on the radar of getting "the Gridiron" somewhere. [smiley=radar.gif] At least, as of January 1, 2009, we're on a pace to "make things happen" on "the Gridiron" (or, at least, ease Steg's pain)!  With all that said, THANK YOU sk a.k.a. steelkings a.k.a. Todd Webster, our now FIRST-EVER EIGHT-TIME donor, for your generosity and brightening our holiday a little bit, and Happy New Year to you and yours! :) Does anybody else want to "contribute..." to getting 2009 kicked off encouragingly for the Stegger???

This is a proud moment for me and, I think, "the Gridiron". [smiley=touching.gif] The CBFL (http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cbfl/) had been an annual tradition on "the Gridiron", and even predating the Grid with its roots at FFToday, for seven years in the running entering the 2008 season. VERY unfortunately, it did not survive the "crisis" that "the Gridiron" and its owner experienced last year. That having been said, THANKS to the group of seven stand-up chaps, class acts, [smiley=sophisticate.gif] to be mentioned here below and their abundant generosity, the CBFL and its tradition has been reinstated on "the Gridiron" here in 2009. Due to the still tenuous circumstances of the web site (I am sure it will be run in the red again this year), I had to require donations of prospective CBFL participants to justify the league's reinstatement, the resources and efforts running it requires on my end. Seven "good guys" met the call, and the CBFL will return this year with an, albeit contracted, field of eight teams. That said, the total of these seven guys' donations was at the level of eleven or twelve guys, which would represent a usual CBFL field. So, my point is that these guys did not just donate (what I was initially hoping for); they donated extra to make up for the difference due to the lack of participants. [smiley=touching.gif] To say that they're actions touched my heart would be a gross understatement. Since I am participating myself, filling out the eight-team field, I must add that I personally have not had this much fun on my beloved web site in a loooooong time. Without further ado, all of this is courtesy of our second EIGHT-time donor, a couple first-time donors and a bunch in between... [smiley=clap.gif]

SIX-time donor... in... the... HOOOOUUUSE... [smiley=bouncin.gif] GBRFLer DirkDiggler a.k.a. Steve Warner,... [smiley=jammaster.gif] thanks a bunch, man!  Furthermore, all things considered, the timeliness of your contribution (not just from a "paying the web site bills", but, moreover, from a, frankly speaking, personal perspective,... which I suspect you kindly factor in) is,... well,... helpful.  It's not much, I know you know, and I know you also were taking care of your league fee, a good portion of which does go back into the league, but, to be absolutely honest, even just the "revenue/cash flow" at the moment HELPS!!! [smiley=bow.gif] And, in any case, every little bit counts...  I just wish more saw it that way.  But, anyway, YOU DO,... and that too counts! :) AND,... hey,... you're a SIX-TIMER!!! During this tough economy, I would like to thank Art Vandalay a.k.a. GBRFLer [smiley=awwgee.gif] Frank Gonzalez for his contribution to the effort here, which is becoming increasingly challenging since the site has been being run in the RED for approaching two years now and, for all appearances, there is no end in sight :-/ (and now, as most of you know, we have a little [smiley=newbie.gif] babaroombaba). [smiley=vice.gif] But, thanks, Frank, old faithful, for the extra scratch.  It does NOT go forgotten that you've contributed to the Stegeman cause in many and significant ways, my friend. :)

For the complete site donors list, on which Frank is now at the level of FOUR-time donor, [smiley=bow.gif] you can go to the donations page or the initial page of this thread, http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=58;action=display;num=1068780634;start=0.

What a way to kickoff kickoff Sunday... with a solid donation!  Guys and gals, the economy is bad.  I know that.  We all know that.  Based on the infrequency of donations anymore, this site is and will foreseeably continue to be run in the red.  It hurts.  I mentioned, warned, one could say, forewarned, as things turned out vis-a-vis all my rhetoric about Gino's and my holding off on having a child and starting a family even though we weren't spring chickens, that maintaining "the Gridiron" if I had a child was going to be close to untenable.  That child [smiley=newbie.gif] as most of you reading this know came... unexpectedly.  She is surely the light of our lives, but, as I suspected [and (fore)warned], has made the running of this site terribly difficult on me from the standpoint of both time and money.  Moreover, when I think of my internet "friends" who bailed on me/became scarce right smack-dab during my wife's pregnancy and birth of my daughter last year (because of measures I was forced into taking based on those circumstances AND a big MOVE), I want to puke.  Bottom line, anybody will come when the trough is full and the going's good (but bolt when having your first child; it still astounds me, the ultimate emptiness of it all).  But, in stark contrast to that "epitaph", here is a "real" friend who has been through thick and thin with me, and, I can only suppose, in seeing the "thin" at present, wants to respond.  Suffice it to say that by way of TWO substantial donations THIS YEAR, the "SEVEN-time" active donor part of the donors list is no longer empty.  It is adorned with the name Dave Bohrer a.k.a. DB, who has stepped it up this year when all too many have stepped down or stepped away.  Thank you, [smiley=bow.gif] Dave, for easing the burden! [smiley=touching.gif] If others follow your lead and kickoff Sunday '09 continues like this (even at just a rate of 20%), boy, would it be a great day of approaching my dream of just breaking even around here. [smiley=pray.gif]

At any rate, enjoy the games... [smiley=footballsmiley.gif] ... [smiley=woohoo.gif]

I would like to heartily thank a fella who has once again met the call... in a BIG way, GBRFLer IbdFunk a.k.a. Danny Feder.  Things are "fiscally" bleak around here (as they are in our nation as a whole).  This is a total "extra" for the Steggies, though, and one I can hardly justify,... I couldn't justify if it weren't for the totally cool wife I have.  Danny here has stepped up before, four times before to be exact, and always to a degree that humbles me but also makes me realize what this place could become with a little "backing" (from within).  Right now, we're (back) running in the red, so that's a long way off.  But, donations like these "keep the dream alive"... in more ways than one (i.e. in the "alive" sense and the "dream" sense).  Thanks, bro! :)

A very HEALTHY donation was received tonight, in very timely fashion might I add, by our first-ever NINE-timer!!!  Thank you to an extremely generous spirit and great friend, Drew Rosenhaus, a.k.a. Mark Hahn.  You really did not need to do this,... moreover, to this extent, moreover,... in this economy.  It is much needed,... but I had even told you that the CBFL was around the bend.  At any rate, if you decide to participate in the CBFL this year, consider your entrance "donation" covered... and then some.  Bottom line, thank you! Well, I'd call this donor a lucky [smiley=shammy.gif] seven-timer... if it were he that was the lucky one.  Instead, it is I who is. [smiley=shamrock.gif] ... [smiley=yes.gif] Despite the hard economic times we are in, in fact, due to the times we are in I believe this fella realizes the truly extra burden this place is on me at this point, he goes and makes his most substantial donation yet.  Double D, Steve Warner, my friend, thank you for making a dent. [smiley=bow.gif] Whence this is coming, I know,... and it gives me pause.

I have to say that these guys, as a group, are stepping up this year to a degree that is truly humbling to me.  I must admit that I made a plea at this year's league meeting, but I did not fathom that the response would be as good as it has been.  While I've been let down in other quarters, you guys have surely lifted me back up and helped me dust myself off... and keep this dream alive!  Again, thank you! A BIG thanks for a BIG contribution from GBRFLer IbdFunk a.k.a. Danny Feder.  I must admit that, while I never intended to receive donations in amounts like I have been in recent years, during down economic times no less, and hope to get back away from in the future, and while the number of donors has surely (understandably) dropped off, the total amount, save for "the streak" of 2006, hasn't all too much, I must also say.  I REALLY do need it right now!  Keeping the site afloat during these lean years is not easy, but a handful of guys are making it doable, in fact more than doable, for me.  The site's remaining up and running is owed in large measure to them, and, when "the Gridiron" makes its resurgence someday, we will owe these guys, who have stuck it out with donations during the lean years, quite a debt of gratitude!  This time it is Feder who gets the... GBRFLers and ATO brethren, IbdFunk a.k.a. Danny Feder and Drew Rosenhaus a.k.a. Mark Hahn, have given the site some support in the form of "tips" significantly over and above the GBRFL league fee!  Danny is now a seven-time donor to the site while Markie is now our leading site donor, our FIRST-EVER TEN-TIMER!!!  All of that represents a significant amount of [smiley=money.gif].[smiley=twocents.gif] that has kept this site afloat. [smiley=worship.gif] Thank you VERY MUCH, Danny, Mark!  And, Mark, CONGRATS on being our first TEN-time donor to "the Gridiron"!  It is a great show of both friendship and faith! [smiley=bow.gif] Donations, especially such as these, really make a difference! A couple of thanks are due,... one overdue... (as have been a couple of the bills for the site this year, I regret to say :-/)...

First, "Double D" Steve Warner has now, over and above the GBRFL league fee, supported the site for a whopping NINTH time! Thanks a bunch, Steve, for all of your thoughtfulness down through the years. [smiley=bow.gif]

The next one comes with a bit of a story... This is actually this guy's third attempt to donate to the site, mind you very substantially (each time). I refused to accept the guy's last two donation "attempts". I just felt that the site at the time was not providing him with that much (frankly speaking, any) service. He has been a regular participant in the CBFL, but that remains shut down, and the site remains otherwise fairly quiet. That said, he either just believes in the vision of the site or me or just thinks somewhat highly of me, my efforts and sincerity that he basically insisted that I process this latest donation. Indeed, it was placed almost a month ago. I am just now processing it. A HUGE THANK YOU to a guy lending a hand while it remains greatly needed during these lean years, moreover, with little (to nothing) in return (isn't that the definition of a real gift?), "cwhams" Chuck Hamilton!!! This makes him a SIX-time donor, but really, in "attempts", this is his EIGHTH and, in amount, he is toward, if not at the top of the list!!! I cannot express adequately in words how much his donations and, moreover, this, well, gift of his this time around means to me,... and should mean to EVERYONE holding out hope for this place!!! [smiley=bow.gif] ... [smiley=touching.gif]

An awesome THREE-digit donation from a now SEVEN-time site donor!!!  These kinds of donations are the kinds that pay whole bills and would really make a difference if given en masse.  A BIG thanks to a guy who has definitely been a big benefactor of "the Gridiron", GBRFLer Dave Trout! [smiley=bow.gif] His level of giving could facilitate growth [(modestly) paid writers?] on "the Gridiron" if there were more of the like... :)

Title: Re: Site Donors

Where to begin giving thanks, that is the question, this year more than ever with this crew...  We have two contributors who are into DOUBLE-digits in terms of number of times giving, an ELEVEN-TIME contributor and a TEN-TIMER, one THREE-DIGIT donation (as was one of the other ones mentioned above), three others of $50, and all six of which were more than $20!!!  UNbelievable!!!  This is on top of their league fee, which in and of itself leaves me a few bucks at the end of the day.  This level of generosity from just about ten to twenty more people, and we would (have) be(en) in business, quite literally, something which in the long run I am still very much so considering!  Such thoughtfulness motivates me even more to both do my best for you guys this year running the GBRFL and succeed in the long run with "the Gridiron".  Thank you to each and every one of you:
[smiley=worship.gif] Mark Hahn, Dave Bohrer, Danny Feder,  Frank Gonzalez, Joe Parsons and Travis Cooper!

Well, GBRFLer Dave Bohrer a.k.a. DB here on "the Gridiron" has kicked off [smiley=footballsmiley.gif] the donations season with an eye-popping :o donation on top of his league fee!  Mind you, this is not new for Dave.  He has given SUBSTANTIALLY down through the years.  It almost makes me want to acknowledge amounts, but I really do not want to do that because I still believe that a little bit from a lot of people is a better, more authentic way to go.  That said, during these down years, which will persist for probably at least a couple more, these kinds of amounts really do help! [smiley=greedy.gif] All of that said, this donation put DB atop the list of "Site Donors", in any event.  He is now an ELEVEN-timer!!!  Thanks a BUNCH, D! [smiley=bow.gif]

The second to come through this year with a donation has followed suit with the first.  IbdFunk a.k.a. Danny Feder, yet again, in making his now NINTH donation, has contributed LARGE!  I cannot really express adequately in words how these levels of donations are tiding this site over to better days to come here on "the Gridiron" in the increasingly not-so-far-off future.  Danny, thank you for your substantive appreciation of my efforts for all these years! GBRFL guys coming through yet again!  At that, if you will, gold level, which really helps tide "the Gridiron" over during these quieter years, is Flesh is Fantasy a.k.a. Dave Trout!  At the silver level there is Pakman a.k.a. Rob Pak and DOLFAN a.k.a. Joe Parsons, and at the bronze level we have Travistotle a.k.a. Travis Cooper, Art Vandalay a.k.a. Frank Gonzalez and DirkDiggler a.k.a. Steve Warner.  All of these guys, moreover, during these uneasy times in America have really stepped it up.  When I make that second run at turning Fantasyfootballer.com into something more, it is to these guys that will be owed a great debt of gratitude for keeping this venture afloat!  Thank you so much, guys, for your generosity!  Here is to another great season of the GBRFL on "the Gridiron"... GBRFLers continue to follow through with donations of the most generous kind.  Along with annual league fees, FLESH a.k.a. Dave Trout and IbdFunk a.k.a. Danny Feder have both stepped up to the plate in a big way.  I like to avoid mentioning amounts, but I feel compelled to at least intimate it in these cases.  I have not increased the league fee in over fifteen years, and that is in great measure due to these guys' level of donations: two and a half times the league fee in the case of Danny and FIVE times the league fee from Dave!  UNREAL!!!  And, mind you, Dave is a NINE-time donor, and Danny is a TEN-timer!!!  THANK YOU, BOTH, VERY MUCH!!! [smiley=bow.gif] Not that everybody needs to give to the degree that you two do, but these types of gifts are surely demonstrative of your appreciation of my efforts and definitely do not give me the feeling of being pawned off for a few bucks. GBRFLer DB, Dave Bohrer, SUBSTANTIALizing with his THIRTEENTH-ever donation to "the Gridiron"!  Thank you very much, D!  It is very helpful with a bill due for the credit card processor I use as well as one (over)due to our news feed provider for "The REAL Feed".  I spend a good amount on the GBRFL plaques, but there are other expenses which go to keeping this place up and running.  On a personal note, most of you know the journey I have been on and, with triumph on the near horizon, the obstacle in my life that has unexpectedly emerged.  These donations surely do help! This is a bit off the beaten track of this thread, but this is, nevertheless, an apropos place for it, and, in any case, it is WAY overdue...  For years now, long after the (somewhat regrettably hostile) departure of the GBRFL2ers, Philly a.k.a. Jeff West has let me impose upon him and FREELY access his CBS fantasy sports account so that I can download the weekly raw stats for importation into the GBRFL spreadsheet.  This amounts to a great savings for me.  Indeed, anytime down through the years that I have inquired as to what it costs him and how much he would like me to pitch in, which, to be honest, has not been for a long time now, he summarily refuses.  In fact, I used to contact him every year around August-ish to ask him for permission to access his account for the new season.  He told me a couple years ago that I need not do that and to just go ahead and use it, again, refusing to discuss anything monetary.  This is a good guy, and I, and all of us in the GBRFL, owe him a BIG THANK YOU!!!  I do not know if you are ever even going to read this.  You probably do not even come through here anymore.  But, anyway, thank you, Jeff!  No thank you on here is more deserved! In a year when expenditures in time, effort and money at FantasyFootballer.com have risen, the SUBSTANTIAL donations of GBRFLers Steve Warner, a.k.a. DirkDiggler, and Dave Bohrer, a.k.a. DB, their FOURTEENTH and FIFTEENTH respectively, are GREATLY APPRRECIATED! This year the site took two fairly brutal body blows behind the scenes on the technical side of things. Hopefully, these two contributions set the tone for the season. Whether or not, they help! Thanks a bunch, DD and DB! [smiley=twothumbsup.gif]

The GBRFLers fail to disappoint yet again.  This time to thank are seven-, eight-, nine-, ten-, twelve- and thirteen-time site donors, Travistotle a.k.a. Travis Cooper, DOLFAN a.k.a. Joe Parsons, Pakman a.k.a. Rob Pak, Art Vandalay a.k.a. Frank Gonzalez, FLESH a.k.a. Dave Trout, and IbdFunk a.k.a. Danny Feder.  The commitment these guys have shown me, the league and this site all these years, especially since I had to scale back in '08, has been what has kept it all going.  Moreover, while I do not like to get into amounts (as I believe that more people giving even just modest amounts lays a greater foundation), the generosity this time around was great.  Thanks a bunch, guys! [smiley=thumbsup.gif]  In fact, in this wave of donations, I received the biggest one to date: TWO BILLS.  He knows who he is, so I do not need to mention names.  That said, thank you, man!
