2004 GBRFL2 Draft (Commentary Thread)
« on: Aug 19th, 2004, 6:41pm »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

Fellas,

Here yas go!  You draft is "'officially' scheduled" to start at 9:00 p.m. (EST) tomorrow.  As such and as this is a "real" draft for a "real" league, you all should plan to have it all finished tomorrow night.  That said, there would be absolutely no harm in dudes' picking "early", i.e. anytime before 9:00 tomorrow night.  The only negative impact a dude's picking early can have is against himself by way of his potentially missing out on any developments between the time he picked and the "official" start of the draft.  The more important factor is not when it begins, but that it ends tomorrow night.  So, without Freddie Adu, here is the 2004 GBRFL2 draft order:

1) Jeff West
2) Jimmy Carver
3) Jamie Josko
4) Gene Nestro
5) Jim O'Dell
6) Kirk Wallace
7) Jeremy Miller
8) Tony Onisko
9) Ray Matty
10) Keith Carroll

Good luck, all!

- Steg

No problem, Kirk! Why don't we use this one as a commentary and questions thread, which it already is turning into?  Here's your draft thread:

Thanks for setting this up for us Steg.  I'll get that payment for the #1 pick in the mail soon!

Anyway, since I got the first pick and knew exactly who I wanted with it... I figured I'd get started.  I would have listened to trade offers for any other pick, but 1.01 was signed, sealed, and now delivered.

Jeff,
Maybe you should send an e-mail to all in the league that the draft has started, maybe some people do not realize.  Nice pick!!

Hey guys, just making a quick pit stop.I've sent a short list of 3 to Philly. If those 3 are gone, my pick will have to wait until I get to the house, approx 3-4 hrs from now.

Thanks

Amen to that.  I am really surprised he fell that far.  It is appropriate that he goes to the New York fan.

The GBRFL draft is tomorrow.  I am curious to see how the top 7 picks will go.  I think the top 4 picks are a total crap shoot.  I predicted Julius Jones would go 5 and Eli would go 3 or 4, with Fitz going 3 or 4.

It was purely a "need" thing for me.  I already have McNabb and Brooks who are relativity young QB's (28 yrs old I think) so any QB I add will be for bye weeks or future trade bait.

I figured I would stock up on a young RB for the future.  With LT2, A. Green, and Duce I didn't really need a guy who was staring this year.  I wanted Jackson or Kevin Jones but they were picked ahead of me.  I kind of  expected that so I traded for E. George (who stinks) so I can have the Dallas RB all year so whenever Jones takes over I am set.

RB was my area of strength too (Shaun Alexander, Travis Henry, Chris Brown, Tyrone Wheatley), but I couldn't pass up Stephen Jackson at 1.01.  He's a franchise RB in the making.  Clearly he will get some starts this season if when Faulk gets hurt.  Plus he is a big, durable type of back who can run between the tackles, has the speed to go outside, and can catch the ball well too.

Gents,
My brother is going to log onto the system tonight and make my picks for me.  If my pick comes up while I am at work, I will make it.  I just wanted you to be aware of the situation.

Thanks and good luck.

I definately went the "need pick" route. I'll be curious to find out when the draft is over just where others had Big Ben, but he was my clear cut #2 QB and I could not risk getting shut out the QB of the future market.

I had him ranked as my 7th overall and was worried (wink, wink) that I would be forced to take him at 1.07.

Guys, Ray (Chumpzilla) is flying in from Canada tonight.  I don't think he will be home until 6:00 or 7:00.  I will call him and let a message on his cell.  If he calls me when he lands I will post his pick.

If someone is looking to trade down, I have a 2.05 and 2.07 and see a player available I'd like.

I messed up - its the 2.05.

I'd really like to move up (if a certain player is still available).  My 2.04 and 2.07 for one of these next few picks and a 3rd.

If that doesn't happen, I'd think about moving down.  That's a bit harder to figure out since I don't have another pick until the 6th round.  Maybe my 2.05 and 6.01 for your 2.08 and 4.08?  Its such a long drop to the 6th round that its hard to figure.
