2003 GBRFL "Coach/GM of the Year"

Fellas, we started the tradition last year with our first recipient Rob Pak.  Given the nature of the award, it is kind of hard to discuss and vote on at a meeting, so I will conduct it the same way as last year.  Votes are to be submitted in one of the following ways:  1) right here on this thread if you feel comfortable with that, 2) by private message to me here on "the Gridiron", 3) by e-mail to me or 4) by calling me at home or on my cell.  I think #'s 2 and 3 are advisable as that way your vote is kept private AND I have a written record of it; #4 would be fine too as long as you call me before January 17th as you will surely have no chance of getting through to me after that OR just leave a message at (732)768-6363 (the # for theEnglishMaster.com) where you can always leave a time-stamped voice mail that I can collect from wherever I am.

I see this thread as serving the purpose of making nominations, so to speak, stating the case for your candidates and further discussing (but if you want to just give your vote here, go for it).  In any case, votes on this issue will be due no later than 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time) the night of...
Sunday, February 8th March 28th.

To look back at how discussions on this issue were conducted last year, go to the following thread:
http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=53;a ction=display;num=1041832234.
I highly suggest perusing the relevant parts of that thread before proceeding.

...

I have a couple dudes in mind, one in particular, but will give someone else a chance to open the discussions this year...

(REMEMBER you canNOT nominate yourself!)

There is no question in my mind.  My vote goes to D.O.   He brought his team up to .500 level very quickly.  His win total went up dramatically in one year, all the while building for the future.  He had a very good draft and was all over the free agent market.

The Champ gets honorable mention here, winning his first title in many years, despite losing Vick and playing with one QB many weeks.

However, DO did the best job overall, improving his team for this year and the future and he gets my vote.

Markie was the other guy I was considering, too.  However, it was pointed out to me by one of the guys that what is quoted above may actually be more of a reason NOT to vote for him.  I tend to agree on second thought.

Guys,

Since we still only have three votes in (four if you count mine) and I am out of the country anyway, I am going to push back the deadline to the last Sunday of March, the 28th.  That will give me some time after I get back to try to get everybody's vote in.  Be in touch!

Gentlemen (I use this loosely),

Hope everyone is well. I apologize I have been out of pocket for so long - I have had the busiest week that I have encountered as a human being.

As some of you know, my family was looking at moving (just to a different part of Littleton, CO). We were able to sell our house and find a new house. Our move date was January 30. It just so happened that our new daughter, Sydney, decided that she wanted to join us on the 30th as well. Everyone is great, we are moved in and just finding our way back to normal. SO - I apologize to everyone for my tardiness in getting my vote in as well as missing phone calls from Joe P., Steve S. and Steve W. (by the way, Mr. Warner - how are you guys holding up and do you have a new edition yet????)

Anyhew, the facts stated above make me coach of the millennium, let alone coach of the year. Having said that, it is now time to defend my honor and credibility with some of the trash being spewed about on this thread. Yes, I won the championship with one QB for several weeks and some of you find that fact offensive. Look at it this way - I didn't make any knee-jerk reactions to my QB situation, trade away any valuable assets to obtain a band-aid solution for the problem just to try and have it solved temporarily at best. It was a risk but a calculated risk that paid off.

Now, it may sound like I am trying to vote for myself here, and that is simply not true. I am trying to convince the straggler voters to vote for me. In all honesty, I whole-heartedly vote for Doug Owens. In this league, with the ownership as we have it, with the experience that everyone has, with the way that trades have become so complicated and so easy to make a mistake that can devastate your team (see Terrell Davis), Doug has done a spectacular job. He didn't move and have a baby on the same day but I give him lots of respect in making a struggling team into a team you didn't want to face week in and out.
