A couple sundry items and one important one...

First, as per the "GM of the Year" thread, that looks like a dead horse. No one seems to care, most notably, the guy who originally proposed it.  I see it as a peripheral thing, so whatever...  I'm not married to it.  Furthermore, it puts a few bucks back in my pocket.  Thanks, guys,... I guess.

Second, regarding plaques for first, second and third place, as I stated at last year's summer meeting and you all, in any event, know (all too well), I am adamantly NOT a "second place is the first loser" type guy... commissioner.  If you came in third in this tough ten-team league, you accomplished a lot; you way more often than not won and had fun; week in and week out you got more joy than frustration; until the end you probably had a chance at a championship.  Life, for me, you all's commish, is about the bigger picture, the whole picture, the road taken, not just about the end result, "the end", the end of the road, and that is how I will always run the GBRFL.  That having been said, I am not going to force something any one of you individually does not want down your throat.  I mentioned this at last year's meeting...  If you came in second or third place and do NOT want your second/third place plaque, (it is your responsibility to) let me know (adequately beforehand).  I will gladly not have your plaque made.  Hell, it puts a few extra bucks in my pocket.  HOWEVER, understand clearly that this is NOT what I want to do.  I want to make everybody's plaque.  I think they are really nice-looking and to divy them out gives me much more joy than an extra few bucks ever will.  I am not going to go around and double-check with all the winners to see if they want theirs or not.  Henceforth, if you do not want your second/third place plaque, it is your job to get through to me by mid-June.  Danny did so this year and he will not be getting his third place plaque.  Needless to say, this is not something I am going to remind you guys about every year (that kind of defeats the purpose).  You either get your plaque or you call me by mid-June telling me you do not want it.  If need be, make your mental note NOW!

Anyway, frankly speaking, I do not like this trend... of "veto by apathy".  I am working with MUCH less time than I used to and do not have the energy to hound you guys about all these small sundry things,... so whatever to them.  BUT, I do NOT want this mindset bleeding into the more important, integral and efficacious aspects of the league.  Decisions about rules and such, like the Hahn-Stegeman proposal about post-season play, need to be made in a heady way by informed participants who care.  If you feel that that does not define you (with regards to x, y, z issue), I would appreciate it if you voted "abstain" rather than "yes" or "no" "just because it is your 'right' to vote".  Just like in the real world, an uninformed vote is dangerous and detrimental to democracy despite our Americana "rock the vote" propoganda bullshit.  How about "hit the books", then "rock the vote"?  You are better off not voting if you do not have a reasonably deep understanding of what it is you are voting on, cannot "appreciate" ALL of the aspects of a given issue and see the bigger picture, and are just voting a certain way based on a shallow consideration/interpretation of just a limited number of the aspects.  To this end, please understand that there is an ever-growing, greater project that is going on here with the GBRFL, "the Gridiron" and FantasyFootballer.com that I "need" you guys to just be "considerate" of.  If "veto by apathetic members" is good for the goose, "veto by benevolent commissioner" is good for the gander (for ALL "chicks" for that matter ... ).

You're gettin' a really cool one this year, Frank.  I am basically adding what I would have spent on Danny's to yours.  (Really, that is all true, BUT moving right along...)  Mine was already going to be of public monumental proportions, so I thought I'd throw you the extra love.  You kind of need it after that Steggie cum(on your)back.

Ironically, the whole apathy discussion will never be read by the majority of our clearly pathetic, I mean apathetic, league.
