Danny, I could be interested, probably more so later if I find myself at all in contention for a plaque than at the moment (and, yes, unlike you, I highly value and, in any case, aestheticaly enjoy 2nd- or 3rd-Place GBRFL plaques as 2nd or 3rd in the GBRFL is probably better than a championship in almost all other leagues in the world and our plaques really are, to some degree, works of art that are truly aethetically pleasing), but, at any time, if you see a possible deal with me that strikes your fancy (I could see, off the top of my head, some combination of commodities like Nicks, D. Ward, Pennington or Leftwich, and/or my 2012 first-rounder going your way), by all means pop me a message. You have my attention! (Personally, I don't think you'll get anything done knowing how you historically have OVERvalued McNabb, but, if by the grace of God sound reason overtakes you,  know that I am interested.)

You know, Danny, you sound like my cousin Mike, who, it is worth noting, I can't stand, but, in any event, whose house I happened to be at some years ago when Barry Sanders broke the 2000-yard rushing mark. He, jerk that he is, shirked it off remarking that it was not really an accomplishment worth recognizing... because he did not "break the record". If it's not first, what does it matter? He's just one of the rest. Yea, right!  What an a-hole!
Acknowledging excellence more broadly, e.g. in our case awarding those who come in 2nd and 3rd, is indicative of an appreciation of just the experience of participation (in the activities you choose to spend the valuable and ever-fleeting moments of your life doing) as well as those "others" who are responsible for making the competition as great as it is. It's the middle ground between win at all costs and give "purple ribbons" to everybody just for participating regardless of place of finish (like they do in many a public elementary school nowadays). Such bipolar mindsets are what are destorying America. Look, I'm not at all for the latter. But, both the former (1st place or "you're a loser") and the latter (the elimination of competition), degradate the accomplishment of doing a really good job and finishing well, say, 2nd or 3rd or in the top quarter or third or whatever the case may dictate. There is, for sure, some truth that there should be a shear appreciation of just participation in an activity, whatever you do in life. The whole experience shouldn't all just get ruined because you didn't win, causing you to become the proverbial sore loser. That said, within that context of a healthy attitude toward competition, i.e. one that doesn't eschew losing and make for the sore loser but nevertheless recognizes and lauds the winner, the value of competition if you will, should also be appreciated. The middle-ground position which is exemplary of such a healthy attitude is one that recognizes those "others" who excelled and made for the great competition but just fell a little short, yet still ahead of 80% (2nd) or 70% (3rd) of the competition as is the case in the GBRFL. To press the argument here just a step farther, a "1st Place or loser" attitude is very selfish. It becomes, for the winner, all and ONLY about "HIM" (and, on the flip side, funny thing, when "he" loses, i.e. doesn't come in 1st, it becomes all about ALL the factors besides "him"). The irony, though, is that awarding those who finish just behind you gives the victory more context and in that sense props it up even more.
Ultimately, Danny, I, of course, "get" your simple, straightforward hard-ass "win or go home" "philosophy". It's what EITHER prevails OR is being reacted to in America today. The middle ground is to appreciate a job well done even if it fell somewhat short of the top spot. After all, there can only be one #1. It is to, at the very least, (logically) exclude the middle to, then, say that everybody else is just a "loser".

Dear Mrs. 3-Ring Circus, 
Here we go playing the old copout "agree to disagree" card, to which so many unreflective Americans are relegated, as if it means anything. Here all it means is you're willing to think it through; I'm not. We're not even dialoguing on the same level. I'm not talking about you're "right" or whatever to proceed with such a frame of mind. I'm talking about the entailments of holding such a position, the psychological and social consequences of such a mindset. Entailments, unforeseen consequences, are a touchy subject in America because they require thought(fulness) and a sense of responsibility, neither of which are all too popular among "rights and freedom of speech-intoxicated" Americans. But, I digress. I'm glad such a philosophy "works" for you (on the inside). I take you as its prime example and finest representative (on the outside). With that said, need I remind you of who, besides obviously deriving more overall satisfaction and enjoyment from the hobby (per the respective philosophies in play here), has more championships???  ...
