2013 Summer Meeting & Draft

Heyas, fellas! I am going to be uncharacteristically "short-winded". Getting on this reasonably on time this year. We are looking at a similar drill as last year. I will not be in Jersey again this summer (indeed, the sun may be setting on that era), so, aside from you all back east getting something together on your own, we are looking at another remote administration of the Summer Meeting & Draft, on-line here on "the Gridiron" and by conference call. Also making things easier on us this year, for my part, as things stand right now, my schedule is wide open. I can do any weekend from late July until kickoff! SO, with all that said, let's get to hammering this out. At the very least, it would be good for everybody to list any "no-go" dates! Secondly, stating preferences would be good. From those I have spoken with, it seems like people liked the late "Labor Day Weekend" Draft. But, whatever... The later the better; earlier if need be. Let's get to it...

My schedule is usually pretty open in August. Unfortunately, not this year. I am away from August 10-17 and from August 28-September 1. So it would seem the best days for me to draft would be Sunday, August 18 and Monday, September 2 (Labor Day). With that said, I am of course willing to have the draft while I am away when I can be available to make picks by phone.

Well, many have still not chimed in, so I am going to nutshell what appears to be taking form from those who have... It seems like the two dates that are emerging are: Sunday, August 18th and Monday (Labor Day), September 2nd! I have a preference, but it is slight, so I will not state it at the moment. I will leave it at this for the moment... While we say, "The later, the better," and one of those dates is just that, very late, both dates are on the "late side" and both have pros and cons. Anyway, let's get to hammering this out... Everybody, please chime in at your earliest possible convenience...

Thanks for the heads-up! However, I'm teaching it, so I need to know the names. Plus, I read it last summer as well, so it's not as difficult now, it being my 2nd time through it. |

I thought the same thing when I first read that suggestion. That does not cut it when you are teaching it. That said, there are surely some "shortcuts" worth taking, indeed, that you may have to take with such an unwieldy text. You will also be learning a lot on the fly. Let me put it this way... I have already been in the position where I am reading the book as they are reading it, but, of course, able to relate to and analyze it at a much higher level, that is, with a trained eye. |

Have we heard from everyone? Let's pick a date. Either August 18 or September 2 is fine with me.

Well, fellas, I want to thank everybody who replied. Only Frank has not chimed in, and I am having a hard time getting through to him. He is usually quite flexible, though. I personally would vote for Sunday, August 18th, which has been the general consensus. So, with that in mind, unless somebody expresses a serious objection, I will go ahead and declare the date for the 2013 GBRFL Draft to be... ... Sunday, August 18th! The start time will be 3:30 p.m. (EST) (that is, 9:30 a.m. for me in Hawaii), which seems reasonable for all time zones involved, but let me know if not for you because we do have wiggle room. I will arrange a conference call, but let's plan to post our picks here on a thread on our message board. So, try to also be able to be on-line that day. It would be great if everybody could post their picks for themselves. Also of note, "the Gridiron" chatroom is a useful resource. Indeed, once the draft has begun, I think it is a more apropos medium than the conference call. That said, we will kick things off with a conference call. Feel free to ask questions and discuss, perhaps most importantly, confirm that this proposal works for you! Thank you all for your anticipated cooperation! Lastly, Joe, if you have an up-to-date draft grid, could you please e-mail it to me at your earliest possible convenience? It would be helpful to me in updating the pages over at the league site. Thank you in advance!

Something VERY important that I failed to address that is related to the determination of our Draft date is the CUT-DOWN and DRAFT LOTTERY dates, which are now a mere two weeks away! Based on the Draft's being Sunday, August 18th,... ... the Cut-down date will be Sunday, August 11th. Protection lists will need to be submitted by 11:59:59 p.m. (EST) the night of the 11th. Here is a thread by way of which you may submit your protections: http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=53;a ction=display;num=1375081231. ... the Draft Lottery will be held by conference call on Monday, August 12th. Unless any serious objections are voiced, it will commence at 7:30 p.m. (EST), which is a fairly reasonable time for everybody and surely for those involved in the lottery. Please get all this penciled in your planners! Thank you!
