RB James Mungro, out of Syracuse, was picked in the 7th round by Detroit. He just was cut. He had the kind of camp like Ben Gay did last year for Cleveland. It was believed he was going to make the team and he was becoming a "cult" favorite among the fans. He plays with a lot of heart. He carries decent weight 214 lbs., but only stands 5'9". Ultimately, I do not see his being much, if any, better than what they already have. As for the option of Ricky Williams out of Tech, I don't have a clue where that will go. We'll just have to wait and see! My guess is that they go into the season with what they have at this point (at this point a pretty obvious observation), which amounts basically to Stith, Finn and rookie Brian Allen out of Stanford, whom, quietly I think, the team has come to like. Ultimately, though, if Edge goes down during the season, I think it all depends on where they are in the standings. If they are playoff bound, they probably are willing to pay for and entice the likes of Watters or Anderson. If they are not, they probably play it out with what they already have in order to see what hidden gems they might have for the future. For depth, they might bring back a guy like McDougal, who has been on and off, the team that is, but has an established relationship with them for some time now. As a side note, Ki-jana Carter perplexes me. ??? He looked good when he got a chance to tote the rock in Washington last year. Guess the fire went out!! Have not a clue about how serious Indy is about acquiring him, but if they pick him, he is intriguing.

I suppose this is as good a place as any for me to start getting active on this board. Here is the Colts back up sistuation in a Nut Shell for you These are the ONLY RBs on the Colts Roster as of right now today: Edge - Possible problems still lingering from his ACL surgry Stith - Currently Hobbling, although when Healthy, he is the Back up. Drafted 3 years ago by the Jags, and performed adquetly, but not spectacular as a replacement starter for Fred Taylor 2 years ago. Spent almost all of last season on IR. Ricky Williams2 - Just reported to camp 9/3, will be the Back up if Stith is unable to play this week. The Colts actually offered him a Roster spot right after the Draft in the spring as an undrafted Free Agent, but he opted to sign with New Orleans. Small at 5'7", he has skills, good balance, and Vision. He will be Edges Backup until Stith is ready to go. Only holds value (and it is minimal) for the first couple of games this season. James Mungro - Drafted in the 7th round by the Lions, the Lions put him on Waivers with the intention of placing him on their practice squad after he cleared. The Colts slid in and snagged him much to the lions dismay. He came in at the Combine in Indy at 5'8" and 7/8th, 215lbs, and ran a 4.65. He has the ability to play some Full back, but strugged even in College with Blocking assignments, and is a developmental player. I will add that he has the size and ability to some day be a starting RB in the NFL, but it is certainly not this season. He is unlikely to see the field outside of special teams. He is a solid Special Teams player. I would be happy to write a detailed evaluation of him if anyone requests it, but he is not going to help anyone this season. Jim Finn Starting Full Back, sever sprained Knee, out for 4-6 weeks. Detron Smith Signed yesterday, he is the Replacement starting Full Back while Finn is out. No Fantasy Value. That is it in a Nutshell, Going into the season, the Back up is clearly, without question Stith, and if he is unable to play, it will be RW2. Now here are some other players involved just for your information: Stegrock mentioned Brian Allen as a possible, he is out for the season after undergoing surgry. Ricky Watters was mentioned by Stegrock as well, he has stated that he will not play for anything less than $1.5 million this season, and he must be guarenteed the starting job, otherwise he is happy being retired as he has nothing left to prove. As long as Edge is in the picture, Watters is out. Should Edge go down for an extended period, then you can consider Watters, but unless that happens, Watters is not going to be on the Colts. KiJana Carter was in Inday Monday 9/2 for a workout/interview but left without signing. The Colts are trying to get Skip Hicks in for a work out, but as of Wednesday 9/4, that still has not happened. Terry Allen has been talked about, but doesn't seem to have been contacted by the Colts yet. The Colts plan on resinging McDougal to the practice squad, there is no plan for him to be part of the team this season.
