"Red Zone Players of the Week" - Week 1

This is another new regular thing I want to start as a "trademarkish" type thing for "the Gridiron". "Red Zone Players of the Week" are simply to be ONE player from each of the FIVE skill positions, QB, RB, TE, WR, PK. Just list ONE for each position, no stats projections necessary. Let's keep it simple for the newbies! Also, I do not always want to be "the first" guy posting on these type things. So, I would like someone else to chime in first. I will give the basic template/pattern I want you to use. Again, PLEASE follow it closely for the newbies. THANKS! Here is the pattern to follow (cut and paste it if need be): QB - ... RB - ... WR - ... TE - ... PK - ... (Of course, the addition of SMILIES is always cool! )

QB: Drew Bledsoe - Drew makes a statement and puts on a show for the Buffalo (and some New England) fans. Later that weekend, Tom Brady also makes a statement: "You signed me to a rich extension? Suckers!" RB: Anthony Thomas - The Gay Train (Muck Fichigan), in his regular season return to Memorial Stadium in Champaign, riddles the Minnesota allege"D." Unfortunately, since the NFL uses instant replay, he'll actually lose a fumble on the Illini's field. Why oh why couldn't there be College Instant replay 2 years ago? WR: Keyshawn Johnson - I think Keyshawn will be unshackled from Dungy's offense and benefit greatly from Gruden's show. Doesn't hurt he's going up against a secondary that includes Fred Thomas, Michael Hawthorne, and NASCAR's Kenny Irvin. TE: Jay Riemersma - Bledsoe goes off and takes another Wolverine with him. PK: Todd Peterson - he's a kicker, so who knows? Seems like a decent bet to get some chances on Monday night. I apologize in advance to Bledsoe, Thomas, Keyshawn, Riemersma and Peterson owners for virtually guaranteeing their suckassedness this weekend.

Meat and potatoes, goota love it! QB - Peyton Manning, 3 td's, 300+ yds RB - Ahman Green, Atlanta could well be the worst run defense in the league. WR - Chris Chambers, while Detroit tries to shut down Ricky, Feidler to Chambers goes big. TE - Bubba Franks, more gut feeling than statistical backing. PK - Todd Peterson, based on number of Pitt fg opportunities last year. Until a new team emerges as "most likely to move the ball well, but not cross the twenty" ...

Okay, here are mine! A little late! But, I finally got a MUCH needed thing last night. They call it SLEEP! Without further ado... I am going to avoid making obvious choices as best as possible/wherever I can. My list is comprised of guys who this week should outperform their preseason ranking/where they probably were drafted. QB - Brad Johnson, Buccaneers (Will come through in a big way now that the real action has begun... moreover, against the depleted Saints!) RB - Emmitt Smith, Cowboys (Will make RUN at rushing title Week 1 against the Texans! ) WR - a) Rod Gardner/b) Derrius Thompson, Redskins (In for a HUGE day against a VERY different Cardinals defensive backfield from two years ago when it was dominant!) TE - Ken Dilger, Buccaneers (Will benefit from Johnson's good day!) PK - Mike Vanderjagt, Colts (Okay, my obvious pick! I like him so much more than the rest for this year, though, he may just end up being my selection every week! My God, I protected the guy in the GBRFL!)

What do I win for being right? QB - Farve Last season the Falcons were the 30th ranked defense in passing yards allowed and nearly as bad in quarterback fantasy points allowed (#29) and wide receiver fantasy points allowed (#28 ). They didn't do much to shore it up, Farve has a Big weekend. RB - The Cowboys have some beef on the line. The average weight of the five starters is 329 pounds. The Texan's run a base 3-4 defense, that will provide running room between the tackles. Emmit Smith is the player of the week, lock for 100 yards, and atleast a TD. I see 2. WR - BREAKOUT PLAYER OF THE WEEK ALERT The key to rattling Spurrier’s Fun ‘n Gun is putting pressure on the QB and the Cardinals don’t to that. Arizona only tallied 19 sacks for all of last year and still don’t have a proven pass rusher. My WR of the Week Rod Gardner at 6’ 2” and 215lbs has the size to over power people. TE - Jacksonville finished the 2001 season ranked 30th in tight end fantasy points allowed. Marcus Pollard is going to explode as Manning's security Blanket. K - Just based on the possiblity Fun and Gun really show caseing it's potential on a suspect Zona D, , I'm going to ride Bret Conway this week.

Solid picks, Drugrunner! I am especially fond of your Gardner and Emmitt picks! But, to win the , you got to get them in before the first game of the week, pal! But, on weeks where there are Thursday games, let's keep this thing rollin' for the teams that still have yet to play on Sunday and Monday. This week being one of them... ...anybody else want to step up to the plate?

| Wish I could help you out with that. If you had asked me last year, I could link you to it. It's put out by FBGs.com, but this year is within their paid member area. That data, and the Rushing and Passing reports are invaluable to a FFler IMO. This year is the first time I have ever been inside a pay site ever, but I've come to rely on that info so heavily that I finally caved in. I'd just go crazy not having it available anymore. I will give you something just as cool though. http://www.twominutewarning.com/fan21.htm It's actually a Sports Book site, but take a look at the extra information down in the lower right hand area of the front page they provide for helping Gamblers decide on how to place bets. Red Zone Target info, Individual player Performance against over500/under500 Oponents, TDs by distance for those of us that get bonus' from them, all sorts of good stuff you can incorperate into your thoughts. And it's still free

| Well, Fanball.com is actually a spinoff of "Fantasy Football Weekly Magazine", which Paul Charchian started back in the mid-late 80's (I am not sure of exactly when actually?)! I know that "MrFootball.com", which was run by a nice chap who now partners with the "FootballGuys.com" guys ultimately sold his domain name to Fanball. It couldn't be him you are thinking of, could it?
