EAGLES Week 5 Analysis

One of the strengths of the Eagles defense, and of their coordinator, Jim Johnson, is to develop game plans to pressure and confuse inexperienced quarterbacks. This week, however, they face, in Mark Brunell, a wily veteran whose cage will not be rattled by a clever defense. The Eagles know this as well and will most likely run a slightly more conservative defensive package.
The Eagles offense is averaging 35 points a game in the early season, albeit against less than formidable opponents. The Jaguars have faced a pair of high-powered offenses in the Colts and the Chiefs already this season. The defense has done an admirable job against some quality RBs this year. (Edge: 99 yds, 0 TDs--Priest: 84 yds, 0 TDs--Martin/Jordan: 78 yds, 0 TDs). They've yet to allow a TD on the ground in their 3 games. Their pass defense, however, has been a bit more suspect.
Here we go with the predictions...
QB:
McNabb - Should have yet another good fantasy day. He will spread the ball around well and may run a bit more than usual. (280 PaYds, 60 RuYds, 3 TDs, 1 INT)
RB:
Staley - Will have trouble rushing the ball, but will get some yards on swing passes and screens. (30 RuYds, 60 ReYds, 1 TD)
Levens - Other than one big TD run, he has not been a factor. (10 RuYds, 10 ReYds)
Westbrook - Disappeared last week. May reappear this week. (30 RuYds, 30 ReYds)
WR:
Thrash - He and Donovan are clicking. (80 ReYds, 1 TD)
Pinkston - Has been better than most expected. (65 ReYds, 1 TD)
Freeman - Similar to Levens, has not been fully assimilated into offensive game plan yet. (40 ReYds)
TE:
Lewis - Has been bothered by a "neck stinger" for a few weeks now. Will play, but don't expect much. (25 ReYds)
K:
Akers - I've been saying for weeks that he is the best kicker in the game; now I'll explain why. Accuracy. He rarely misses. Distance. He can hit the 50+ yarders. Opportunity. The Eagles move the ball well, the coaches have incredible faith in him, and he also gets additional opportunities for points on trick plays. Attitude. The guy loves to get in on tackles (despite his small size). Concentration. Akers is heavily into martial arts and uses some of the principles on the football field. (3-3 XPs, 2-2 FGs)
Defense:
The Eagles defense has proven that they are a sure start every week. They are ball-hawks and can score defensively. Their secondary is unparalled in talent and execution. Their schemes are well-conceived. That being said, look for Fred Taylor to have a great day against them. They are soft at DT and often have trouble with small, quick backs like Taylor. Because the Jags will be able to run the ball, some passing lanes will open as well and Brunell should be able to find some open receivers.

OK, the Eagles defense actually played pretty well.

Pretty damn close on this one...
RB:
Staley - Will have trouble rushing the ball, but will get some yards on swing passes and screens. (30 RuYds, 60 ReYds, 1 TD)
82 RuYds, 35 ReYds, 0 TD
He did better on yardage, but didn't crack the endzone.
Levens - Other than one big TD run, he has not been a factor. (10 RuYds, 10 ReYds)
12 RuYds
Didn't catch any passes, otherwise I nailed this one.
Westbrook - Disappeared last week. May reappear this week. (30 RuYds, 30 ReYds)
1 RuYd, 17 ReYds
All I can say is UNDERUTILIZED.
WR:

Again, close on yards, no TDs though. 
Pinkston - Has been better than most expected. (65 ReYds, 1 TD)

On again, off again. This was the off week.

Close on yards, and he stole the TD from Thrash. 
TE:

I won't mention the 2 kickoffs out of bounds. Slow week for Akers

Defense didn't do badly. Held Taylor to 48 RuYds, Brunell under 200 PaYds, but only one sack and no turnovers. Special teams continue to hurt the numbers.

Duce did well, Pinky did not.

Freeman and Lewis were good plays this week. Oh well.
