Help - offer for Holmes!

I think this is the first time I have ever looked for trade advice.  Got offerred McNabb and Portis for Holmes in a deep keeper league.

My current roster:

Player/Team YTD Pts Bye Week
Johnson, Brad TBB QB (D) 90  10
Maddox, Tommy PIT QB 62  3

Allen, James HOU RB 42  5
Anderson, Mike DEN RB 52  9
Edwards, Robert MIA RB 26  8
Holmes, Priest KCC RB 196  9
James, Edgerrin IND RB 77  4

Chambers, Chris MIA WR (O) 42  8
Crowell, Germane DET WR 2  5
Dwight, Tim SDC WR 47  8
Mason, Derrick TEN WR (Q) 36  7
Northcutt, Dennis CLE WR 59  10
Randle El, Antwaan PIT WR 33  3
Stokley, Brandon BAL WR 42  3

Pollard, Marcus IND TE (P) 32  4

Peterson, Todd PIT PK 35  3

Steelers, Pittsburgh PIT DT 47  3

Scoring rules:

 Passing TDs 6.00 points each
Passing Yardage 0.04 points each
Pass Interceptions -3.00 points each
Rushing TDs 6.00 points each
Rushing Yards 0.10 points each
Receiving TDs 6.00 points each
Receiving Yards 0.10 points each
Passing 2 pointers 2.00 points each
Rushing 2 pointers 2.00 points each
Receiving 2 pointers 2.00 points each

His roster:

McNabb, Donovan PHI QB 166  6
Plummer, Jake ARI QB 88  6
Vick, Michael ATL QB 98  4

Jones, Thomas ARI RB 48  6
McAllister, Deuce NOS RB 126  9
Portis, Clinton DEN RB 75  9

Gardner, Rod WAS WR 49  4
Morgan, Quincy CLE WR 60  10
Smith, Steve CAR WR 50  9
Taylor, Travis BAL WR 22  3
Walker, Javon GBP WR 23  8

Crumpler, Alge ATL TE 21  4
Shockey, Jeremy NYG TE (Q) 27  7

Akers, David PHI PK 61  6
Lindell, Rian SEA PK 37  5

My initial reaction is NO F'N WAY!  But, ????  Portis and McNabb seem like a nice offer the more I think about it.  I wish he had better WRs - where I have been decimated by injuries this year.

I am thinking of countering with asking for Vick and McCallister.  Perhaps even McNabb and McCallister.

14 teams in the league, BTW.  Start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 D

Any input appreciated.

As a Holmes owner, I can't count how many times I would have lost if I had started any other RB in the league besides him.  So I know how difficult it would be to let him go.

McNabb and Portis is intriguing.  I have Portis as well and he has been getting better each week.  And he is very attractive in a keeper league.  Unfortunately Mike Anderson still gets some carries (and TDs) in Denver, so I'd be very hesitant to do that trade.

I wouldn't do his trade offer, or the one you proposed.  I'd only do it if he offered McNabb and McAllister, which I imagine he won't do.

I am going to counter with McNabb and McCallister and see what happens.  I doubt he'll do it, but worth a shot.

Gut instainct is "no way!" But, ....

I'll throw out some numbers for ya to mull over.
{keeper league not factored in}

With that scoring system

McNabb has the easier of the two {Maddox} schedules for qb's 12th hardest degree of change compared to Maddox's 2nd hardest degree of change.

Edge McNabb by a fairly large amount.

Portis and Holmes have relatively equal degree of change in their schedule. One sweet thing for Portis, assuming a weeks 14 - 16 playoff, is he goes up against defenses rated  32, 20 and 25 during that stretch. Has games against the 29 and 31 ranked defenses as well.

The worst defenses Priest faces are 31 and 21 with a 5 on week 16.

That leaves you opponent statrting Vick who overall has the 9th easiest renmaining and Duece who has a very tough reaming schedule except for weeks 15 16, where he plays teams currently ranked 28 and 24.

Strenght vs weakness you help each other out about the same. I don't see where you are the one gaining enough to offset the help it gives his club.

KI would counter as well.  However, in the counter, I would offer something back in good faith.  Whether it is one of your marginal receivers or marginal running backs.  Maybe offer Mike Anderson so he has the Denver running game?  And I would ask him to throw in something small, such as a draft pick or free agent pick.

I made an original counter offer (McNabb and McAllister for Holmes and Crowell).  He rejected that without any comments.  I made another offer (McNabb and McAllister for Holmes and Anderson).  I haven't rejected his original offer yet - in fact I think I'll go for it if he doesn't take this offer, but I will wait until next week to do it.

Fuck ALL that!  Replenish him at QB.  Offer him B. Johnson and Holmes for McNabb and McAllister.  Since you are in some need of receiver help, you could step the deal up and exploit that Denver RB thing and send him B. J., Holmes and Anderson for McNabb, McAllister and Morgan.  Dude, bottom line is you hold the trump card.  Don't pass that sucker on without a good fight, and I mean good.  To be honest, I would be reluctant to deal Holmes, period, but you definitely could use help at QB (and a little at WR too).  As for his original offer that you have not yet ruled out, I would NOT do it as it stands.  If that is all he is pushin', though, what I would do is try to get Vick thrown into the deal by offering B. J., i.e. B. J. and Holmes for McNabb, Vick and Portis.  Me likes this deal much more. You might even be able to step it up to Maddox and Holmes for McNabb, Vick and McAllister or even to a bigger deal Maddox, Holmes and Anderson for McNabb, Vick, McAllister and Morgan.  Mmmmmmm...  YUMMY!

OK, I've had a chance to sleep on this one and some more time to think about it.

The first question I need answered is:  Are you still in the running to win this year?  If so, you need McNabb and McAllister at the very least to trade Holmes.

If you're already out of the running, then Vick is a stud for the long term and I would consider a Vick and McAllister trade, but only if you're looking at the long-term instead of the here and now.

Been out for a bit, but I wanted to revisit this just to sa thanx for opinions.

I decided to stay put and not do the trade.  I floated other potential ideas past the guy, but he never budged.

To answer Philly's question, yes, I am still in the running at 4-4.
