EAGLES Week 11 Analysis

This game is a lock. I think the only other time I said that this year was the Eagles-Buccaneers game. The Eagles will NOT lose this game. I know they've had trouble with Jake Plummer and the Cardinals in the past, but that is the past. QB: McNabb may not have a huge game this week. The weather forecast is calling for wind and rain - a Nor'easter. There is a chance that it may have moved out of the area by game time, but I wouldn't count on it. Expect an average passing game this week. RB: Levens was more productive last week than Staley, despite Staley coming off 3 big games. I would expect a return to Staley as the featured back this week, although it is clear that both will get work. So far this year Staley has received about 100 more carries than Levens, although Levens is averaging nearly 6 yards a carry on his 33 carries. Staley has a respectable 4.3 yard average. WR: Receivers numbers on the year are surprisingly similar (Thrash 34-446-4, Pinkston 33-413-3, Freeman 29-405-2). Thrash started out hot, then Pinkston came on, and now Freeman is getting the looks. It's a crap-shoot here as to who will get the ball this week. TE: Lewis, coming off a couple All-Pro seasons, has disappeared. Look for some new schemes to get him open and more involved in the offense. K: Mr. Consistency has missed one FG all year (a 50-yarder). He is 21/22 on FGs and 21/21 on XPs. (Little known fact... Akers also has the highest yards-per-carry average on the Eagles at 10.0!) Defense: Coming off their worst outing of the season, look for the Eagles to come out en fuego on Sunday. The Cards will have problems moving the ball on offense. PREDICTIONS McNabb - 220 PaY, 60 RuY, 2 TDs, 1 INT, 1 Fum {22} Staley - 85 RuY, 35 ReY, 1 TD {17} Levens - 60 RuY, 15 ReY, 0 TD {7} Thrash - 40 ReY, 8 RuY, 0 TD {4} Pinkston - 20 ReY, 0 RuY, 0 TD {2} Freeman - 70 ReY, 0 RuY, 0 TD {7} Lewis - 40 ReY, 1 TD {10} Akers - 3-3 XPs, 1-1 FG {6} Defense - 6 PA, 225 YA, 2 Sacks, 1 INT, 1 FF **{Fantasy points are based on standard performance league scoring.}

Of course I didn't know he would play the whole game with a broken ankle either... If you followed my advice to sit Thrash or play Lewis, I apologize. I was pretty close on everything else. It will get much more difficult to predict from here on out. |

Word is coming out now that everyone thought that McNabb only had a sprained ankle. Reid wanted McNabb to get an X-ray during halftime, but McNabb refused. So he played the entire game hurt. The question is, by playing did he take what was a sprain and actually break it? Did he take a 4-week fracture and turn it into an 8-week injury? We will never know. It appears that McNabb calls the shots for the Eagles and not Reid. The sad thing is that even after the game and it was revealed that the ankle was fractured, McNabb was still in a state of denial, saying he didn't know if he was going to miss any time with this injury. At least the Eagles have proven over the past month that they can run the ball effectively and have 3 healthy and able RBs to share that load. Koy Detmer knows the offense as well as, if not better than McNabb. Detmer also throws the short pass better than McNabb. He just lacks the arm strength for the downfield pass and the game-experience. Detmer might not be a bad backup for you. All defenses from here on out will be stacking the box to stop the run, so maybe Detmer can have some success??
