Houston Texans - Week Eleven Analysis

This week, the Texans face one of the only two teams it has beaten this year. The Jaguars were VERY pissed off at their loss in Jacksonville three weeks ago, and Tom Coughlin has outright said that it was an embarassment. Since then, the Jaguars have won two in a row and look to correct their previous mistake in Houston this weekend.
The Texans, on the other hand, are a team that is reeling. Since their win in Jaguar territory, they've lost two straight, including a stinker against Cincinnati in which their offense and defense looked completely inept. In last week's game, their offense was equally incompetent, but were able to put together a last second drive to make it a close game.
All of this adds up to be a week of serious hurt for the hometown Texans, and I expect a serious offensive juggernaut to pour through the Texans defense and a solid Jaguar defensive unit to put the clamps down on the men in steel blue this week.
Quarterbacks
David Carr has really struggled the past two weeks, but at least found his running ability again last week. Carr has finally come down to earth and is starting to look like a rookie quarterback on an expansion team...making mistakes, misreading coverages, etc. The Jaguar secondary stepped up last week, and Coughlin should have a field day in putting pressure on Carr as the Texan offensive line has sufferred a couple of injuries this week.
David Carr - 150 yards passing, 1 TD, 2 INTs; 30 yards rushing, 0 TD
Runningbacks
The wonderful two-headed Texan running attack resurfaced last week, and it does not look like Jonathan Wells will be able to rip the job away completely away from Allen for the rest of the season. You know what that means? Runningback drafted in the first round for the Texans next year. Again, the Texans running attack is a crapshoot week-to-week, so beware starting either of these guys unless you have no other option.
James Allen - 30 yards rushing, 0 TDs; 30 yards receiving, 0 TDs
Jonathan Wells - 40 yards rushing, 0 TDs; 0 yards receiving, 0 TDs
Wide Receivers
Bradford continues to struggle as teams have learned how to shut down the Texan passing attack - rush Carr and double Bradford. Gaffney has NOT stepped up to take the pressure off of Corey, but a surprising emergence last week was a solid performance by JaJuan Dawson, a rookie (or second year WR?) that was cut by the Browns earlier this year. Dawson was competing for the starting job in Cleveland this year, but was released simply due to numbers (the 4 WRBC committee in Brownland). If Gaffney continues to struggle, Dawson could see more playing time in the slot or maybe as the 2nd WR.
Corey Bradford - 4 receptions, 50 yards, 0 TD
Jabar Gaffney - 3 receptions, 20 yards, 0 TD
JaJuan Dawson - 4 receptions, 30 yards, 0 TD
Billy Miller - 2 receptions, 20 yards, 1 TD
Overall, I expect a Jaguar trouncing of the Texans this week as Coughlin and the boys exact their revenge...

David Carr - 228 yards passing, 1 TD, 1 INTs; 33 yards rushing, 2 TD
Wow...I completely underestimated Carr's performance this week. Carr was very effective passing the ball, and connected on a long bomb that inflated both his and Bradford's stats. Carr also showed that he is the only true rushing threat in Houston, scoring two touchdowns on the ground as well. I'm not sure if it is his youth or his talent, but this kid has many similar qualities to John Elway when he first started.

Jonathan Wells - 15 yards rushing, 0 TDs; 0 yards receiving, 0 TDs
Well, I nailed the ineffectiveness of the Houston running game. More importantly is the fact that Allen actually saw more playing time this week than Wells...I will keep an ear open in the Houston media to see if this is a trend that may continue in the future.
Corey Bradford - 5 receptions, 73 yards, 1 TD
Jabar Gaffney - 3 receptions, 45 yards, 0 TD
JaJuan Dawson - 1 reception, 21 yards, 0 TD
Billy Miller - 4 receptions, 41 yards, 0 TD
Well, the big story here is that Bradford was able to break his coverage this week and re-emerge as Carr's favorite target. The Jax D played a lot of zone on Bradford, which allowed him to get underneath a lot more that the previous tight double coverage he was seeing. The long bomb that he caught really helped his stats as well this week. Carr stole away Miller's goalline looks this week, which is a disconcerting sign for Miller owners. He's still getting yardage as Carr's dumpoff man (and the only true second wideout on the team), but his lack of TD's recently is a concern.
Overall, the game was a lot tighter than I expected at the end, but the Jaguars pretty much controlled the tempo for most of the game.
