Bringing y'all the news exactly when it happens, sometimes even before. =)

I think Marvin coaching the Bengals is an excellent fit. It's also long overdue that Lewis becomes a head coach in the NFL.

Here is some follow-up, local, "lowdown" coverage straight off "the Gridiron Newsstand":

http://www.activedayton.com/shared/sports/ap/ap_story.html/Football/AP.V 3887.AP-FBN-Bengals-Lew.html.

It is actually the ONLY local article on the hiring of Lewis that has been published by any of the three local dailies that cover the Bengals.  Ironically, I would consider it the least of the three, frankly speaking.  Who'd a thunk?

Anyway, here is a link to another article about the hiring of Lewis up at Bengals.com, once again, brought to you by "the Gridiron Newsstand":

http://www.bengals.com/.

Well, another great find and post by our hot-hand correspondent, KJ 76! Thanks, KJ...! Keep up the good work!

I think it's great for the orgaization. They have some decent players (Dillon, Chad Johnson, Spikes, Simmons, Justin Smith)

They need to address some issures via free agency and the draft (Secondary, O-line)

Kinta will be okay. He is not the answer over the long haul, but I think they should trade down for a few extra picks. Maybe take Kliff Kingsbury or Ken Dorsey or Chris Simms later in the draft and develop oneof them.

Any chance Akili Smith gets a second chance now?  The guy has a world of talent - maybe just needs some new coaches to focus it in the right direction.

This is one great pick-up.
And the Bungles - on paper - are way, WAY better than their record.
Personnel and talent wise, I'd say they're light years better than, say, the NYG for example, who are a perennial barely .500 team that always seems to make the playoffs.
The problem?
Front office. Pure and simple.
And Vince Lombardi couldn't make a difference with this mess in Cincinnati.
NO GM. NO scouts. And a meglomaniac for an owner.
Breaks your heart considering this is a franchise that has played in the Super Bowl.
Twice.
And were robbed by Joe Montana.

Thanks for reminding us 9er fans of that.  Makes the playoffs easier to take.

I'm not sure where to place this decision.  Is it an unescapable black hole for a promising coaches career?  Or, if he goes 8-8, he's a genius.  Hard to decide which way to look at it.

They're not overtalented.  They've made continuous poor draft decisions.  Sure, they should be better than 1-15.  Miami could do better than 1-15.  (Ohio State fans, go home.)  The fact is, as you said, the front office is killing this organization. Until they get a new owner, they're still screwed.  Sure, they will have the #1 pick and get a good player, but they'll be reaching for 3rd and 4th rounders in the 2nd and 3rd again this year unless Lewis gets to run the draft, and I don't think he's *ever* done that before.

As you said, No Scouts, No GM, no hope.

I'd say that the Bengals defense SHOULD be among tops in the league.

I mean they got Justin Smith, and Takeo Spikes, and Justin Smith and Takeo Spikes... oh nevermind...

Here's how the Bengals draft should go:

The Bengals trade their number one pick in the first round to Carolina for the ninth pick overall and Carolina's second round pick.

Bengals first round pick: Terrance Newman, CB, Kansas St.
Bengals second round pick: Ben Johnson, OL, Wisconsin
Bengals second rounder from Carolina: Troy Polamalu, S, USC

A draft like this could be HUGE for Cincinnati and Marvin Lewis.  Fix the secondary with 2 high picks and get a massive (6-7 320 lb) lineman to start off. Then get some bodies in rounds 3-7 to help with special teams and hopefully grab a sleeper in there, maybe a Kevin Williams at DT or a linebacker with some potential.
