Glenn swimming again with the Tuna... in Dallas!

Well, it looks like Mrs. Glenn is going to service the Pack for another year after all...  Here is the LATEST HOT off "the Gridiron Newsstand":

http://www.packersnews.com/index2.shtml.

What do you all think?  I think it is a GREAT move.  Glenn did have some good moments in '02, moreover, in a difficult type of offense, which he was playing in for the first time; I am still not totally sold on Donald Driver, and I think Robert Ferguson and Javon Walker need another year or two each to develop.

I don't know, Jet.  It is kind of a "James Thrash/Willie Jackson" type hunch!  Remember I am also very down on the Packers in general for next year.  You could also chalk it up to the ravings of a madman!

You can compare Driver's season to Thrash's "break-out" season I suppose, but Willie Jackson! Come on.

Regardless of Driver or Ferguson, Terry Glenn is washed up.  Anyone who wastes a draft pick on him doesn't deserve to field a fantasy team.

I would have to agree with Philly here.  If you draft Glenn then you have wasted a draft selection.  Driver will be the man in GB.

Okay, maybe Willie Jackson was a little harsh.  How 'bout Albert Connell?

I meant in the future Steg.  Last year there was certainly some merit to drafting Glenn.  He had shown terrific ability while in New England, and now he was going to be on the receiving end of Favre's passes.  However, he showed that despite a flash here and there, he was certainly nowhere near as consistent as Driver.

I drafted Glenn (late) in one of my leagues last year.  He was off my roster early in the season and I think only one person picked him up off waivers (briefly).

I picked him up in free-agency around Week 13 of the 2001 season (deep 12-player keeper).  He remains on my roster today and may going into next season.

I still don't deserve a fantasy team.

Well, as for the LATEST on this from "the Gridiron Newsstand", the Pack are, and I quote, "quietly shopping receiver Terry Glenn."  Here it is from the horse's mouth:

http://www.packersnews.com/archives/news/pack_8840457.shtml.

What is ya'lls take on this?  It is pretty crowded in the green bay when it comes to receivers, especially those of the up-and-coming variety.  Where do you think Glenn could wind up?  Moreover, to those of you who, like me, still think he could be a viable fantasy factor, where do think he would fit best?  I think, roughly in order, Atlanta, San Diego, Minnesota, Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia, San Francisco or Dallas could be places where he could possibly thrive, and I am being absolutely deadpan here.

Well, now that the March 1st cut date is fast approaching, the Packers have told Glenn's agent to seek a trade.  They would be able to cut a significant piece of (financial) fat, no not phat, if they get rid of him, more so if by trade.  The pieces linked to below mention that the Packers believe that Glenn's staying might the impede the development of WR's Robert Ferguson and Javon Walker:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/news/2003/02/25/packers_glenn_ ap/.

Here is a little more of the lowdown from "the Gridiron Newsstand":

http://www.jsonline.com/packer/news/feb03/120979.asp.

So, where do you guys think he might end up?  And, moreover, do you think he could still be productive fantasy-wise?

First of all, kudos again to BW for breaking this news just about as fast as anyone else out there! We, on "the Gridiron", thank you abundantly! Keep up the GREAT work!

As to what I think about this, I kind of like it!  It was my second choice for Glenn, actually (Washington was my first)!  Good fit!  Had his best season under Bill!  Word was that Parcells actually ended up being a good reference for Glenn when he went to the Pack; word is that Joey Galloway may not fit into Parcells' plans as Galloway does not like to workout during the offseason with the team in Dallas, which is what Parcells insists on, the reason not the least of which is building team chemistry and cohesion, not something Galloway has exhibited much respect for.  He likes to workout on his own in his hometown.  That ain't gonna' fly with Parcells and we all know what Joey did the last time he had to deal with a coaching change, Holmgren in Seattle, for whom he barely even played.  I think he racked up good flag-football stats that season!

It all depends on your opinion of Glenn.  I personally think he'll be out of the NFL next year.

He's a headcase.  He's not durable.  He hasn't had a good season in many, many years.

So what if people say he's a great athlete?  He hasn't proven anything in a long time.  Unfortunately, at his age you can't consider his athleticism "potential" much anymore.

As for the cowboys, unless Glenn is gonna be throwing the ball he's not an upgrade at all

Steg: Do you really plan on holding onto him?  One of those "i'll keep him on my roster and if he performs I get to laugh at everyone and throw him in my lineup" type players?  If so, what about Glenn is still attractive to you?  Even moreso, do you think he can produce in Dallas next year?

Well, Razz, my answer is not something I can really put in quantifiable terms, though I will try to do so a little bit.  Bottom line is I still like him, within reason of course, meaning that I think he has an upswing possibility of being a solid #3 fantasy receiver.  He'll never be a touchdown hawk, but 70 catches for 1,000 to 1,100 yards and 4 touchdowns are not out of the realm of possibility, to say the least.  As for his past, if you, like me, still want to discern his "value," (meaning that you too think there is value there to discern, and not that you think he is just a loser to trash-talk about) I think you have to compare his career to that of a player like Raghib Ismail, whose position/role in the offense, he will be taking.  As alluded to above, he may end up taking Galloway's #1 role, actually.  That to me spells upswing.  Also, your typical, contemporary fantasy footballer, whose mindset is so driven by cumulative-points performance scoring systems, has such a spoiled viewpoint, scoffing so quickly at 56 receptions for 817 yards and 2 touchdowns that, mind you, were produced in an offense totally new to the player, who, might I add, produced those stats in what amounted to 11-games worth or playing time.  That ain't that bad.  Heck, I won the GBRFL Championship this year with his usually serving as my #3 (and my #1 and #2 were Joe Horn and Rod Smith, respectively, i.e. not that great).  After drafting hopeful wideouts two years in a row and the emergence of Driver, Glenn's being the odd man out is not a surprise.  I do think that Parcells will only have a positive effect on him.  There are issues at quarterback, of course, but I believe that will be taken care of by the Tuna in short order.  Ultimately, though, my not having given up on Glenn just yet is just a gut feeling I have!

Well, here is some more more informative information on the sitch, including a real goodie from "the Gridiron Newsstand":

http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/sports/football/5293261.htm

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/inside_game/don_banks/news/2003/02/28/b anks_insider/

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/news/2003/02/28/glenn_cowboys_ ap/

The first of the two articles from CNN/SI claims that Glenn will only be expected to serve as the Cowboys #3; whereas, the local piece out of the Dallas-Fort Worth Star-Telegram asserts that Glenn immediately enters the Cowboys starting-receiver mix.  In any case, I don't care what anybody says...  I think Terry might just this year.

Finally, some corroboration of the above...  Here's how The Sporting News puts it:

"Star power doesn't wash with Parcells...  If you're a receiver, then you don't want the wrath of Bill Parcells coming down on you. Just ask Terry Glenn. That's why it will be interesting to see if Joey Galloway works out with the Cowboys this offseason. Find out why Parcells thinks Galloway's participation is so important in this week's Team Reports, which detail each squad's offseason program."

Here is what the "full story" link below that spiel at TSN links to... it ain't much more, though, just the nuts and bolts:
http://www.sportingnews.com/nfl/teams/cowboys/20030309.html.

Besides all that, Galloway turns 32 during this upcoming season.  He ain't no spring , and age has a way of wearing on receivers who rely basically solely on their speed, eh-hem.  I'm tellin' ya' Glenn is like two and a half years younger and has a very good chance of becoming Dallas's go-to guy this year, and if so, he'll be decent... read a window of 900 and 2 to 1,150 and 6, an average of 1,025 and 4 if you want to nail it down to one set of numbers (personally, I like "windows" more than single-line predictions).

Here's is the latest word out of Bill Parcells mouth regarding Terry Glenn, by way of an unlikely source on "the Gridiron Newsstand" for Cowboys news info:

"Parcells has a simple view of what he wants out of Terry Glenn. 'I'd like to have that same guy he was when he was a rookie,' Parcells said. 'That would certainly suffice. But, again, I look at Terry Glenn I think pretty much the same way as I looked at entering into the relationship with the Cowboys. I mean, this needs to work. I had a great relationship with Terry his first year. People think it was adversarial. In no way was it ever adversarial. It was in jest that comment that was made ['She's doing better.'] He knew it. I knew it. Everybody on the team knew it. I like the player. I think he's a guy who can help our team. Where is he in his career now? I'm not sure. I thought he played pretty well for the Packers. If he gets it going and we have somebody that can get him the ball, he'll be a threat. He really will.'"

Here is a link, but everything regarding Glenn from the piece is cut and pasted above:

If glenn can get his head on straight and stop whinning about the small stuff. He could still be a fantasy factor. But I  just don't see that happining. I  mean he was set in green bay last year and still didn't produce like he is capable of producing. I think the tuna may have bitten off more then he can chew with this guy. Just my opinion

I think you hit the nail on the head grimmy...

If he couldn't produce with Brett Favre on the other end of the passes, then how is he going to do it with Chad Hutchinson/Quincy Carter/Insert other QB here under center?  Plus the receiving corps in Green Bay was much less talented than the one already in place in Dallas.

Anyway, as for Glenn, it is going to be an uphill battle.  I still think that the most influential aspect of his going to Dallas is Parcells.

I'm tellin' ya's...  I just saw that excerpt on the Cowboys on ESPN.  Bill Parcells WILL have a positive impact on Terry Glenn, making him a real NFL player again AND, perhaps, a viable fantasy option as a #3 receiver by mid-year.  At any "rate," I feel confident that he will have decent deep keeper-league value by the end of '03!

A viable number 3 fantasy WR? He will be lucky to be the third receiver in Dallas. If playing with Farve could not make Glenn into a good fantasy receiver, he has no shot in Dallas with those QB's.
