A couple of real goodies to offer up here this morning.

First off, a great report by our very own Tony_O "between the 20's" regarding a trade that could go down with the Browns for QB Tim Couch that probably should have been reported here on this thread in "the Red Zone", but will be left where it is given our leniency toward downstream posting here on "the Gridiron" and the fact that it is a close call anyway because Tony's post does involve the draft, which would make it "between the 20's" material:

http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=56;a ction=display;num=1051074814.

Next, a piece ripped right off "the Gridiron Newsstand" discussing the possibility of the Cowboys' drafting a running back to give Hambrick some competition:

http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/sports/football/5696750.htm.

Any thoughts on any of this, fellas?  I think Couch could be a great fit in Dallas, actually.  Seems like a Parcells-type quarterback.  As for Hambrick, I just traded for him this offseason in the GBRFL, but do have reservations after his somewhat lackluster performance last year.  Granted, he did not hit the field very often!  I guess we'll see.

Well it seems that all most all of the draft gurus believe that the cowboys had a good draft.

Kipper's top rated teams-dallas,new england,ravens

Prisco gave the Cowboys a B-plus

usa Today gives the cowboys 5 stars

But what do they know?............LOL

Newman was a solid pick(considering his shoulder is healthy) should be the prototypical shut down corner

Now Johnson in the second round was questionable.....last years pick gurode can play center and so does tyson walters.....I think E.J. henderson would have been a better choice or Tylor jacobs

Whitten was an absolute steal in third round........Many ranked him as the top TE in the draft

In the fourth I think they made grave mistake..they passed on onterio smith a runnign back with 1st round talent and they desperately need a back up to hambrick for a LB who will probably be a back-up and play special teams.

Although they made a trade with Detriot for Avieon Carson......If any of you remember he looked pretty decent when he touched the ball last year for the Lions. The new RB coach for the Cowboys just happens to be the X-Detriot Lions Running Back Coach....Maybe he has the inside info on this kid and his talent.

The remaing picks like most teams in the 5th 6th and 7th rounds were reach's.............let's hope they catch something!

Last but not least.......The Cowboys signed Tony Romo who was pursued by 20 teams in the NFL the day after the draft. He recieved the Walter Payton award for the top player in Division 2 football. Has some talent and has been assured by the tuna, JJ, and shawn payton that he can make the team..........We will see.

How's 'bout the 'Boys interest in would-be rookie RB Tony Hollings of Georgia Tech who will be available in July 10th's "Supplemental Draft"?  Here is the report from one of "the Gridiron Newsstand's" MANY sources:

http://www.dallascowboys.com/news_070203_hollings.html.

Any thoughts?  I have Hambrick in the GBRFL and am just a little !

I don't know anything other than the numbers and the recent hoopla, but I wouldn't worry this year.  A rookie, coming to his team for the first time right before training camp, who had an ACL injury in the middle of last season.  I don't care how talented he is, he will be on PUP or IR or (very unlikely) playing special teams.

Here's an article that sheds a little light on the receiving corps for Dallas.  I especially like this quote: Quote:
It's unlikely Bryant will ever get as many passes thrown his direction to meet his satisfaction. The second-round pick last season had a handful of sideline blowups with his teammates and coaches, all in efforts to get the ball more often. He proved his point at the end of the year, catching seven passes for 170 yards in a loss to the Redskins.

I love that attitude in a WR.  Sound anything like Ownes, Keyshawn, Moss, or Cris Carter?

I think Bryant will have a good year.  He won't be a WR1 or WR2, but he will be worth a late round pick.  He is the Boys end zone target.

ARD, as our new Cowboys expert on "the Gridiron" (as per your PM to me), what kind of #'s do you see Galloway, Glenn and Bryant putting up, respectively?

I'm certainly not a Cowboys expert and would never hope to be, but Cowboys' receivers' numbers?

Let's see...
Galloway - 90 days probation and 200 hours community service
Bryant - 120 days house arrest
Glenn - 60 days in a women's detention center

Sound about right?

Bryant 57-825-7
Galloway 50-710-4
Glenn 35-450-3

While the Wr's have talent, the QB situation is a BIG question mark. The Boys schedule is also brutal (esp 2 against Phila)

Most will probably say Galloway is the number one, but I think Bryant will start to pull ahead as the season progresses.

Tex Schramm, former president and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, died Tuesday morning.
 (From Dallasnews.com)

While this is not FF related, I thought it was important to mention due the effect he had on the NFL.

Regarding Primetime's report above, here is the read on "The REAL Feed":

Cowboys Architect Schramm Dies at 83
AP Sports (15.07.2003 09:12)
Tex Schramm, the showboating innovator who helped build the Dallas Cowboys into "America's Team" and was an instrumental figure in the NFL's evolution and popularity, died at his home Tuesday. He was 83.

Definitely a bummer!  He lived a pretty long, colorful, good life, though.  Definitely responsible for making the Cowboys into what they became.

(NOTE:  The specific topic of the death of Tex Schramm is better suited to "the Sidelines" board, but since this is a "Cowboys Offseason Report" thread, we'll let it stay put.  However, just to be clear, if this were a standalone thread, it would have been moved to "the Sidelines".)

The cowboys signed Adrian Murrell.  Yes the same Adrian Murrell that ran for the Redskins, Cardinals, and Giants.  The same Murrell that has been out of the league two years.  Jerry Jones says the signing is not a statement of concern over Hambrick, but concern at their lack of depth at RB with WIley hurting.,...

Personally, I think this is a total joke.  I think they just need someone to practice.

Didn't Murrell play for the Jets under Parcells and have a decent year or two?

Believe so. Also had 1,000 yards with the CARDINALS. Go figure, it was their playoff year.

Seems like the starting QB job should be Carter's at this point...  Yet, Parcells remains mum... and Hutch did do okay himself, actually.

And, I gotta' be honest.  I think ole' Adrian Murrell is going to cause a stir in the 'Boys running game.  I don't think an unseating of Hambrick is out of the realm of possibility.

Two interesting names on the Cowboys cuts...

QB Clint Stoerner.  I had a feeling that Tony Romo would make the squad.  I ventured a guess that Hutchinson might be cut, but it looks like he is safe now with the pecking order being Carter, Hutch, Romo.

RB Michael Wiley.  Looks like Troy Hambrick might have worked himself out of the Parcells doghouse.
