Where are these QB's on your Draft Board?

Okay well, I've had my drafting order pretty much in my head all offseason, but today I went to write it down, because many leagues are beginning their drafts soon. My RB's are pretty much in order, but I have come across a few question marks in the QB Department. I want to know where these guys are on your list. Redman- If the Ravens go after Boller like I antipate, I also assume Boller will take his job. What do you think? Kitna- He looked good in his playing time last year; but that can always be deceiving. He has decent receivers and with Dillon hopefully coming back running stronger than ever, will Kitna have a decent year or will he lose his job halfway through the year and hand it off to Palmer (also, just an anticipation)? Holcombe(sp?)/Couch- Well, Holcombe has his chance to start next year if he can prove himself in the preseason. They have VERY solid receivers, I would take Holcome as a quality backup. But if Couch enters back as the starter, I'd have to say No. What do you guys think? Plummer- Here's his chance to show off he's a good player. With an excellent RB behind him and good enough receivers, will Pummer be the interception-prone QB he's been in ARZ or will he shine (well.. somewhat) like he did his rookie season? Brees- Throwing to Boston, do you think he'll improve any? Hasselback- Personally I thought he looked GREAT towards the end of last year and he has GREAT receivers. Where do you guys have him? What about... Kordell Delhomme Blake Whoever starts in Dallas Whoever starts in Washington

| I'd stay away from either one of these... Quote: Kitna- He looked good in his playing time last year; but that can always be deceiving. He has decent receivers and with Dillon hopefully coming back running stronger than ever, will Kitna have a decent year or will he lose his job halfway through the year and hand it off to Palmer (also, just an anticipation)? |
| I'd consider drafting Kitna (he won't go too early). There's no reason for his late-season surge to end this season. I wouldn't waste a roster spot on Palmer right now though, unless you're in a keeper league. Quote: Holcomb/Couch- Well, Holcomb has his chance to start next year if he can prove himself in the preseason. They have VERY solid receivers, I would take Holcomb as a quality backup. But if Couch enters back as the starter, I'd have to say No. What do you guys think? |
| I think these are two guys I would be wary about drafting. Both have ability and have shown flashes. Couch hasn't been consistent and Holcomb hasn't been healthy. Morgan and Davis are nice receivers, but I'm not sure what to think of KJ2 in all of this. Plus, look for them to run more this year now that they know Green can produce. Quote: Plummer- Here's his chance to show off he's a good player. With an excellent RB behind him and good enough receivers, will Pummer be the interception-prone QB he's been in ARZ or will he shine (well.. somewhat) like he did his rookie season? |
| I'd take a chance on Jake the Mile High Snake. If he's still around in the 5th or 6th round...? I like the offense... he's the starter no questions asked... Go for it. Quote: Brees- Throwing to Boston, do you think he'll improve any? |
| Brees has moved up my draft board considerably. Lots of weapons and a good head on his shoulder. I liked him last year, but when Conway got hurt, his numbers suffered. Quote: Hasselback- Personally I thought he looked GREAT towards the end of last year and he has GREAT receivers. Where do you guys have him? |
| I think he's good enough to be a #1 QB on a FF team. He definitely has the supporting cast. Alexander will be better than last year. Robinson will continue to improve... Quote: What about... Kordell Delhomme Blake Whoever starts in Dallas Whoever starts in Washington |
| The only one I'd consider is Ramsey in Washington, but don't make him your #1 right off the bat... The others don't even deserve comment here.

A lot of ground being covered here... But, here is how I would rank the QB's you have mentioned: 1st Tier (of these guys, NOT in the whole NFL) 1. Drew Brees - He is as set up for success as well as any quarterback has ever been and as he will ever be and I think he is ready. He should have pretty excellent numbers this year. I think windows of 3,500 to 4,000 yards passing and 24+ touchdowns could be in the cards. And, don't give me the "Schottenheimer" argument. He has coached many a team with a quarterback with awesome stats. Do your homework! 2. Jake Plummer - Well, I think it is going to be "boom or bust" for my boy Jake. Ultimately, I think it will be boom. I am not going to re-repeat everything I have written on Jake (on these boards and everywhere) to date. I see 3,750 to 4,100 yards passing and 24+ touchdowns in the cards. Brees gets the knod, though, out of what I will call "stability." 3. Matt Hasselback - Again, not going to rehash everything here. There is a whole "Matt Hasselback" thread on page 2. I think he is the real deal. I see 3,500 to 4,000 yards and 26+ touchdowns out of this quarterback, playing in a Holmgren offense and with a great pair of starting wideouts. Jake gets the knod because I think he has a little more overall upswing. 2nd Tier 4. Kelly Holcomb - If he starts, he could be a monster in this offense. He showed that he can do it. Similar windows to the guys above, but obviously the uncertainty kills his value. 5. Tim Couch - I still like him and if he wins the starting job, he can put up similar numbers to Holcomb. Actually, if you could somehow get both Holcomb and Couch, you would have yourself a great deal. The two of them together bumps you up into the first tier. 6. Patrick Ramsey - If he wins and can hold on to the starting job, you gotta' like the possibilities. In Spurrier's offense and with the tools he would have to work with in Gardner and Coles, whew, his numbers could go through the roof! He's this low, though, because of ALL the uncertainty that constantly surrounds the Redskins due to the aforementioned head coach Steve Spurrier and team owner Daniel Snyderman. 3rd Tier 7. Jake Delhomme - I like him; I saw what old man Rodney Peete could do when in there... pretty awesome numbers, all things considered! When Delhomme gets his chance, and he will, he will shine. The possibilities are definitely a notable step down from the above-listed guys, but he will be pleasantly surprising and a great pick-up in keeper leagues. 8. Jon Kitna - I think the guy gets a worse rap than he deserves. That having been said, this is the Bengals we are talking about, and depending in any way on a Bengals QB to lead your fantasy team, or even act as an occasional starter, is very risky business. Marv Lewis will be good for the team overall and Chad Johnson is a stud in the making; T. J. Houshmandzadeh is also very solid, and Peter Warrick is a nice bonus coming out of the slot. I'll give you numbers here for Kitna: 3,100 to 3,600 yards passing (I know that's a big window, but that is how I see it) with 20 touchdowns would be a great season. But, and I don't care about all this early offseason rhetoric, drafting Carson Palmer would be a total buzz-kill here for Kitna and Kitna owners, though. 8. Chris Redman - I don't think the guy is as bad as everybody else seems to think. Given the right tools and the presence of Brian Billick, architect of the Vikings offense, he could be a goodie. I, personally, saw slow, but steady development when he played last year. As for Boller, I think it would be a shame if he went to Baltimore because I don't think that is the right team for him. I think Boller has "Master of the West Coast Offense" written all over him. I do think, as I have professed here on the "Ravens Offseason Report" thread, that Billick should reunite himself with Jeff George. I think he would be a GREAT stop-gap while Redman continues to develop. If this were to happen, Jeff George would actually be in my "2nd Tier"! 4th Tier I don't like any of these guys either 1) because I don't think they are good or 2) because I don't like their circumstances, and, ultimately, I would not count on any of them for anything more than sporadic spurts here and there and NEVER to even step on the field for my fantasy team. I would look to immediately trade any one of them after a "good spurt" and not think twice about it. 9. Jeff Blake - Good quarterback; horrible team; no supporting cast; not getting any younger! 10. Kordell Stewart - Just do not think this guy is worth a poo-poo. The prelude to this section that I wrote above totally captures my thinking on Kordell. Dump him and don't look back IMMEDIATELY after he has that good spurt that he might have. 5th Tier 11. Chad Hutchinson - Could have a bright future... SOMEDAY, but that "someday" is not going to be any Thurday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday in '03.

| Well, Cirrinone, excellent speculation! Definitely what we want around here! I am already finding support for your claim that the Ravens are seriously contemplating Boller. They are also looking at Leftwich. Anyway, here is how it reads on "The REAL Feed": "Most of the speculation has the Baltimore Ravens set to take a quarterback with their first-round pick in the NFL draft, possibly moving up from No. 10 to snag Marshall's Byron Leftwich, or down, anticipating that California's Kyle Boller will be available later."

If they don't move up though, I see Leftwich going to Jacksonville, which may even be a pretty good fit for him. I agree with you, that Boller is not fit for Baltimore and I could see him with a team like the Packers or Raiders replacing Gannon or Favre when their time is up, but they're way too far out in the draft to snag Boller and it seems the Packers are set on Grossman anyhow. |
| I really can't even believe some guys in the NFL covet Boller. He had ONE decent year. He wasn't even in the top 4 rated Pac 10 quarterbacks this year. So he can throw the ball 80 yards, that don't mean shit if the WR is only 70 yards downfield. Every list I have seen has him has the "most overrated" player in the draft. Oh well...I guess ultimately that only time will tell....

Yeah, I've seen that too Dirk. People say Boller is the most overrated, while Leftwich is the most underrated. However, Boller's right behind Leftwich and behind him, I'd think is where Grossman is at. And I don't think Grossman warrants Top-10 consideration; HOWEVER, I'm going off on a limb here and saying he'll be the most successful QB taken in the first round this year, if not the whole draft. I couldn't say that about Palmer, who'll most likely become the #1 pick; #1 pick QB's don't usually work out, and like you said, Boller can throw (he has size and speed too) but no one knows if he can lead a team too well (1-10 his junior season). As for Leftwich, he'll work out for a couple seasons, until that injury hits him hard once more. Grossman would be a steal for the Packers, who I believe will take him. He could learn under one of the best QB's in the game in Favre and take over next year.
