Need TE Help

For the first time ever, the SBFFL is putting in a TE roster slot this year. We will need to play 3 WR's and I TE each week, so I have some questions for you guys who have used a TE for a while. I have started to crunch the numbers and they are ugly. There are clearly the top 3 (Shockey, Gonzalez, & Heap), but after that, it is awful. Actually, the best TE only averaged 3.96 points per game in our scoring, so are they really worth anything. If I want one of those top 3, I would probably have to take them in the 3rd or 4th, but I am not sure they warrant that. The other TE's average 1-2 points per week, so on a consistent basis, I could easily get a 0 out of a TE all year long. I have a real nice sleeper that I can get late(I think), when should I take a TE. This is all new to me, so please help!

Bubba Franks gets quite a bit of goal line looks.

Frank Wycheck (old and injuries) can have a big game for sure. I think it was 10+ receptions in this years playoffs, not positive.

Chad Lewis used to get a bit of fantasy points because McNabb likes to go to his TE, so whoever starts for Philly this year (might even be LJ Smith) might get a couple a week for you.

Peyton Manning is the same way, and REALLY likes going to Marcus Pollard. With Dallas Clark also, he may also get some action.

But the BIGGEST TE sleeper this season... MICHAEL RICKS- Detroit Lions. He showed last season he can go WAY down field and with a solid WR getting them downfield in Rogers, he can finish the drive off at the goal line.

Hope I helped.

I like Cirrinone's commentary!  GREAT job, man!

HOWEVER, you SBFFLers have got to get on the "same page" here!

I knew this thread seemed eerily similar to something else I had recently read.  This very topic as it relates specifically to this recent change in the SBFFL was VERY well discussed on the following thread:

http://www.fantasyfootballer.com/cgi-bin/theGridiron/YaBB.cgi?board=56;a ction=display;num=1048041040.

A LOT of pithy commentary that should serve you well, DW!

If one of the big three is available to you in the 4th, I would snatch him up. If not, go with your late round sleeper. I personally think the TE run will start sometime in the 4th round, but I could be wrong.

You could always look at guys like Bubba Franks (scores a lot of TDs), McMichael of Miami could have a break out year,  Anthony Becht of NYJ, Shannon Sharpe, or Cumpler of Atlanta.  A few darkhorses could be Doug Jolley of Oakland and LJ Smith of Philly.

I agree with you on McMicheal from Miami. I think he is this year's big sleeper at TE!

I like McMichael too, as I had him on my team last year, but I have a few different sleepers...that will be revealed on draft day.

The Eagels and the giants are both looking to go more to the two TE set. Now that might not hurt "The best TE in the league" (J. Shockey) but It might do someting in Philly. Just something to throw out at you!

Oh yea that TE NY drafted was quoted in the post saying he fells he could be better than Shockey!

Bubba franks just about dropped out last year. Yea he caught a couple td passes but are league is all about yards.
