Diamond in the Rough: Reche Caldwell

David Boston is the new man in town. He takes over as the number one option for Drew Brees. Tim Dwight is penciled in as the number 2, with Caldwell as the number three. Does Caldwell have the skills to become the second optoion? Yes. Will he do it in training camp/preseason? Maybe. I think he'd be great as your fifth or sixth option at receiver.

Tim Dwight has been hampered by injuries in the past, so if that continues, Caldwell could be an excellent option at WR.  Obviously Boston is going to get all the attention at WR and the safeties will have to be ready to play the run with LT2 in the backfield.  Brees should be improved this year and will find an open Dwight or Caldwell.

Don't know much about Caldwell to be honest.  I will say this much, though, I do think that Tim Dwight, the little speedster, if he can stay healthy, would complement Boston quite well.  Bottom line, I think Caldwell's having any kind of "fantasy impact" in '03 is, at best, a loooooooooong shot to show.

I don't know much about Caldwell either, however I see Tim Dwight as more of a #3 WR where he can put up some big plays but is not counted on every down in the offense.  That said, Caldwell could well step up and then benefit from Boston, LT2, and a maturing Brees.

I pity the fool who trusts in Brees.

Seriously, Brees is way too streaky for my tastes. I'll give the kid time to develop, but accuracy is where he appears to be the streakiest and I'm not sure that's something that will change.

I don't think Caldewell can do anything fantasy worthy this year.  I don't think he'd be in my top 60 WR's drafted.

Schott is conservative.  Tomlinson's a red-zone stud.  Boston's a red-zone stud.  Brees hasn't proven he's a stud and only seemed to find Conway last year.  The odds of Caldwell replacing Dwight are slim, and even then I'm not sure he'd put up top 40 WR numbers.  Even if he beats out dwight and Boston goes down, you'd just see more Tomlinson.

"Diamond in the Rough"... not for this guy.  Maybe "Torn-in-half Lottery Ticket with $5 grand prize".

420 and Razzak make great points and I agree with them completely... you're not just buying into Caldwell here, Brees is the other half of the equation, and so far he's shown me very little. Couple that with the fact that I've never even heard of Caldwell and that pretty much guarantees the fact that he will not be sitting on my bench to start the season. Of course, Dwight isn't exactly known for his durability and Caldwell somehow managed to score more TD's then Dwight last year... he could be one of those guys that you draft very late, hoping that you'll never need to use him (at least not this year).
