Trent + Pick for Hasselbeck

I'm in a 3-player keeper league that already drafted. I have Matt Hasselbeck and another team is offering me Trent Green and their 3rd round pick next year for him. Would you do it?

Scoring is standard 1pt/25 pass yards, 6pts/TD, 2pts/conversion, 1pt/10rushyrds

Even though Hassy has better wrs i too would pull the trigger as long as your backup QB does not have the same bye week. If that is the case then do the deal and start looking for another trade to get a QB with another bye week.

Let me take a contrarian view.  Green IS primed for a big season.  But so is Hasselbeck.  Between weeks 9 and 17 of last year, Hass was a top 3 QB (of course this depends entirely on scoring system):

Over the last six weeks (12-17), he was the top-rated passer, outscoring Green (in HAFAX scoring) by over 50 points.  That is quite a bit to give up for what is essentially a sixth round pick.

As an addendum, I currently have Hasselbeck ranked 7th in my QB rankings.  I have Green at 9th.

Thanks for the link.  That sheds a little light on your Warner discussion in the other thread.  I find your rankings very interesting... you are very sour on Brady (because of a shoulder injury which I have been unable to find mention of anywhere - link?) and even have Jake Delhomme ahead of him.

As you are well aware, Brady lead the league in passing TDs--albeit only 28--last season.  There's no reason to think that he can't be as (if not more) successful this year.  He has a healthy Troy Brown returning.  Deion Branch and Daniel Graham are back with an added year of experience.  Bethel Johnson adds speed to an already speedy WR corps.  Christian Fauria showed that he is still a weapon in the NE offense.  And Kevin Faulk (a much better receiver than Antowain Smith) is getting lots of reps with the first team offense in training camp.

I have no dispute with your assessment of Hasselbeck, who I think will have an outstanding season (probably very similar stat-wise to Trent Green).  But I think you are overvaluing Warner and short-changing Brady a bit.

http://www.bostonherald.com/sport/patriots/pats08022003.htm

The original article mentioned that Brady was struggling with the deep ball (a feature the Patriots insist they are adding to the offense) and that he was "managing" his shoulder problems.

Brady separated the AC joint late last year and opted NOT to have surgery.

The original Herald article is now archived and I am not going to pay for it but his shoulder problem has been reported.  Also, look at how Brady finished.

As a former Michigan player, I am rooting for him.  As a fantasy analyst, I am tempering my expectations.  I hate it when a player opts to forego surgery that a doctor recommends (see my ranking of Boston last season).

That's ugly - let's try it this way:

Detroit  18-30-1 210 yards 0 TDs
Buffalo 15-27-0 183 yards 2 TDs
Tennessee 14-29-1 134 yards 0 TDs
New York 19-37-1 133 yards 1 TD
Miami 25-44-1 221 yards 1 TD

This means in his last five games last year he averaged 176 yards per game passing, .8 TDs and .8 picks.  Hardly impressive numbers.

By contrast, in his first five games he threw for 13 TDs and just six picks.  He also had three 3-TD games in November.  I just don't trust him since the injury.

on the links... the first one merely talks about the backup QBs and not about any injury - just an implication that Brady is not throwing the ball deep well.

The second one (fanball via Yahoo) was more informative.  I hadn't seen that one anywhere before.  I can't say it really changes things for me too much though.  I'll have to see him struggle in some game action before I drop him in my rankings.

Look at his numbers from his last five 2002 regular season games - I think those indicate the struggle.
