Random Thoughts with Steegie-san

Fellas, I just responded to an e-mail I got asking for my take on some things.  It's not worth cutting-and-pasting the whole e-mail here nor even my whole response.  I did think that these couple thoughts of mine were worth passing on for whatever they're worth , perhaps a little general fodder for discussion...

I have my concerns about Aaron Brooks.  I really think that if he comes out of the gate poorly he will have a shorter leash than most want to admit.  But, you have Kerry Collins, who is solid, backing him up anyway.  I'm also not as high on Koren Robinson as everybody else seems to be.  I think Darrell Jackson is more of a threat to take balls away from him than is generally being thought.

I think Koren Robinson will be last year's Eric Moulds... making D-Jax last year's Peerless Price.  Nothing wrong with having either one in that sitch.

Aaron Brooks has Todd Bouman backing him up now, who is a solid backup, but is not a starter.  When he had Jeff Blake around, there was more reason to pull him then... If the NO O-line plays well (without Turley), then Brooks will be just fine.

Same thing with Collins.  The O-line last year performed miracles and then left.  Can they do it again this year?  If so, watch out for the Giants... if not...?

Brooks is more of a threat to explode this year.  Would these #'s be a shock to you:  Horn 1250 yards and 9 TD's, Stallworth 1100 yards and 7 TD's, Pathon 500 yards 3 TD's, Lewis 200 yards 1 TD, Conwell/Sloan 500 yards and 3 TD's, McAllister 500 yards and 4 Td's?

Thats 4,050 yards and 27 TD's!!!  If he stays healthy - watch out.

Collins should end up at 3,800 yards and 20-22 TD's:
Toomer 1,100 and 8, Shockey 900 and 5, Hilliard 800 and 5, Barber 700 and 3, Dixon/Carter 300 and 2.

Robinson is definitely a top 6 WR (or RC as Steg likes it)

Well, in NFL terms and TE-mandatory leagues, he is a WR; in GBRFL terms (and non-TE-mandatory leagues), he is (should be) an RC. As for the rest, we shall see; we shall see.  I see Robinson's being behind Owens, Harrison, Moss, Boston, Moulds, Burress, Toomer, Horn, Holt and, believe it or not, Rice and perhaps even Rod Smith, although in a DEEP keeper league I would take him ahead of those latter two.  As for Brooks, I guess what I am saying is that this is a "make-or-break" season for him in many respects.  If he "makes", he'll be great.  But, if he does not, his career will be very much so, i.e. more than for others in '03, in jeopardy. Again, though, we shall see; we shall see.

Based purely on last year's stats, New Orleans offensive players have the roughest schedule in the league.  Put that together with losing their best offensive lineman and I am looking for the entire offense to slump.

I like Koren Robinson, however he generally gets drafted earlier than I would take him.  It seems you either love him or hate him... yet I am middle of the road.

I'll glady let KRob go a round or two too early and then snag Darrell Jackson later and smile all the way to the bank when they put up very similar numbers.

I have to agree,  I reckon Jackson & Robinson will post similar #'s this
season, however having a healthy Jackson in the line-up opposite
Koren, will only help him... so you never know...
