Steeler Analysis week 10

The 3 and 5 Arizona Cardinals Visit Hienz Field in Pittsburgh. The Cardinals are riding high on a two game winning streak by beating San Francisco and Cincinnatti Consecutively. The last 5 meetings between the Steelers and Cardinals have been just about even. A slight edge going to the Steelers at 3 and 2. The Cardinals feature Jeff Blake, Marcel Shipp, and Anquan Bolden on offense. Super Bowl MVP Dexter Jackson Leads the Defense.
The Steelers are now 2 and 6 on the year, while going 1 and 3 at home. The Steelers have Tommy Maddox, Plax Burress, Hines Ward , and Jerome Bettis on Offense. They are led by Joey Porter on the Defense.
Tommy Maddox
Tommy Had a good week against the Seahawks compared to  the past several games. The Steelers moved him around and out of the pocket and at times moved the pocket with him. This bought him more time to throw the ball down field. Tommy was only sacked twice in the road game at Seattle. The downfall was the crowd noise. Lots of penalties caused many long yardage situations. This should not be the case this week as the Steelers are at home. The Cards start 2 good DB's. The running game ,combined with more short yardage situations should give maddox the opportunity to have a good game.
Tommy Maddox  24 of 31 for 270   3TDP  1INT

Runningbacks
The still missing Marvel Smith will continue to force the Steelers to power through the Tackles. This is a good thing. The bus will ram it up the gut of the cardinals and force the defensive backs in to the box. Without Smith the Steelers cannot get the running Game outside. They may try alot of screen plays, however the defense usually looks for it.
Jerome Bettis  20 car for 85 yrds 4 rec for 15 yrds  0 TD's
Amos Zereoue 11 car 35 yrds 3 rec 35 yrds 1 TD

Wide Recievers
All the recievers are a bit banged up. Hines ward has Pink eye. Burress has a brusied shoulder, Randell el has a mildly sprained ankle and Jay Riemersma has a hurt everything. JR is at this point listed to play. That is huge for the Steelers. He softens the middle for the other guys. JR is the only T.E the Steelers have that is a recieving threat. Jr and Bettis should be enough to force the DB's of the Cardinals to come up to support the run. A big day for the big 2 is predicted.
Hines Ward 7 rec 91 yrds  1 TD  1car 22 yrds
Plax Burress 6 rec 78 yrds 1 TD
Randell El 2 rec 25 yrds  0 TD
Jay Riemersma 2 rec 26 yrds 0 TD

Kicker
Jeff Reed Doesnt Miss
2FG's 3 XP

Defense
Marcel Shipp will carry the ball a bunch. Thats what the cards do best. The Steeler "o" will need to get up early to get the sceptical crowd into the game. If the Steelers get the lead they can force Blake to chuck it and cause turnovers. This could be a nice day to start the Steeler "d".
Steeler "d"  55 yrds rsh 230 pass 3 INT 1 TD

Final
This one should be the second blow out of the year for the Steelers.

Steelers 34
Cards 13

update

The last time Jeff Blake was in Pittsburgh he touched the Steelers for over 300yrds and 3 tds. He was a Bengal at the time. Quote:
Cardinals QB Jeff Blake has more touchdowns against the Steelers (14) than any other of the teams he has faced in 12 seasons. Blake played six years in Cincinnati and had a career-best 81.8 completion percentage (18 of 22) in a November 1995 game against the Steelers. His familiarity with the defense will make it difficult for the Steelers to disguise their coverages and blitzes. "He played us twice a year when he was in Cincinnati and he's seen the defense a whole lot,"

It appears that both Burress and Riemersma will play Sunday.

Steelers wide receiver Plaxico Burress made it back onto the practice field Friday, and expects to be available against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
Burress has been listed as probable all week with a shoulder injury.
"It keeps getting better day by day," Burress said. "By Sunday, I'll be good.

The Steelers lead the all-time series 31-22-3.
Pittsburgh won the last meeting 26-20 in OT in 1997 at Tempe.
The Cardinals beat the Bengals 17-14 in Week 9.
The teams haven't played in Pittsburgh since 1985 when the Cardinals were in St. Louis.

Thanks sk!  I know a couple Burress owners who would be pretty darn happy to see your prediction come true!

PIT is giving 7 in this one, so I was thinking of taking the scarlet chickens.

Now I'll have to rethink it!   Thanks for the insight!

for a  FFL QB Maddox had an average day. As a pro QB he still couldnt convert 3rd downs and didnt really move the team. However, he didnt commit turnovers.  The Cardinals did as much to lose this one than the Steelers did to win it.
