My $uper Bowl Week - Help Needed

OK... I had a nice week in the semi-finals, beating my opponent 134-94. My best friend, and main trash-talk recipient, is the other team playing for the league championship (and the $350 top prize). I need a little help: - At QB I have Trent Green, who I've been riding with great pleasure. I also have Tommy Maddox. It should be an easy decision, but Green faces a Vikes defense that has given up only 15 touchdowns while grabbing 25 interceptions. Maddox faces a Charger defense that has already given up 33 touchdowns. Do I dare take a chance with Maddox?
- At RB, I have Jamal Lewis and Clinton Portis. Normally a no-brainer. But Portis is questionable, and with Shanny, that could mean anything. He will be a game-time decision at best. I also picked up Thomas Jones and Onterrio Smith from waivers this week as insurance. Should I wait until the very last minute, and give Thomas Jones (vs. Atlanta
) the start if I'm not 99% sure that Portis can go? - Finally, at defense, I have the Broncos and the Seahawks. The Broncos defense has played better than the Seahawks defense of late, but the Broncos face the Colts, while the Seahawks face the Cardinals. Can the Seahawks play well enough to shut down the Cardinal passing game?
The irony of this is that I dominated my league last year, only to go into the championship game right after Priest Holmes went down. I ended up losing that game. This year, I am again the best team in the league, but Portis gets injured the week before my championship... and to make matters worse, my opponent has Brett Favre, Ahman Green, Donald Driver, and Ryan Longwell on his team. The Packers, of course, draw Oakland on MNF.

Tough decisions indeed. I don't think you can risk Maddox for the Championship. Maybe mid-season, but you gotta stick with Green. MIN has nice passing D #s, but they still give up a lot of yards. You should be OK starting Green. I see MINvsKC being a 38-27 type game. TAKE THE OVER! RB is a conundrum for sure! I think you've gotta go with TJ too. If Portis is dinged, playing on turf isn't going to help much. DEN has proven they aren't much w/o him, so they might fall behind and end up abandoning the run anyway. I'm torn on the DEF pick. I'm going against a team starting SEA D, so I want ARI to score. My gut tells me they won't though. I'd start them with confidence.

| I pored over the waiver wire analyzing match ups and trends, and none of the other defenses were worth grabbing. We have a 12-team league, and most teams carry two defenses, so the pickings are mighty slim.

Given what we've seen all season, did anyone expect to see Smith have a game like that? Did anyone expect the Vikes to have a game like that against Green? You went with good choices, but that's how we play the games. Good teams shake up the mix to confuse the other guys. I feel your pain. In one of my leagues, I got bumped by Portis' 8 million TD game. He's good. But that was a career day. I actually had that game won before Green's meaningless last-seconds meaningless TD. You did nothing wrong. It just happens like that sometimes. No crystal ball. Just good choices and hope for some luck. Your knowledge will carry you through as well as knowledge witihout magic can. Trust your knowledge, unless you have a crystal ball. If you have a crystal ball, stop playing fantasy football and go with the stock market! Which is probably a lot less fun! BTW, I like the Eagles!

Another year without the big payoff. I ended up losing my championship game 141-107. I had enough points on the bench to put up 170 for the week. Maddox outplayed my starter, Green at QB. I thought long and hard about playing Maddox this week, but in the end chose to "dance with the ones who brought me". With Portis out, I went with Thomas Jones at starter and watched Onterrio Smith go off while riding my bench. Who woulda thunk it? I should have gone with Andre Johnson over Jimmy Smith, but Jimmy was certainly the safer play. Finally, Boo Williams outplayed Shannon Sharpe. Sharpe has been solid all year, so there was no question who should start at TE. In the end, my opponent had 4 Packers (Favre, Green, Driver, Longwell) going against the pathetic Raiders. Philip Buchanon is regarded as one of the better defensive backs in the league? Are you kidding me? The game (and my championship dreams) were over before ABC milked yet another week out of the musical NFL players bit at halftime.
