EAGLES....................Week 16 Analysis
« on: Dec 21st, 2003, 9:05am »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

Sorry this is going up late, but it's been a busy week.

The Eagles are on a serious roll, and are definitely not the type of team to overlook any team.  They need to win this game (and have the Rams lose) so they can rest some players next week and also have the bye to get everyone healthy.

LJ Smith and Troy Vincent are both listed as doubtful for this game, but everyone else should play.

McNabb:
Should have an excellent game.  Look for nearly 300 passing yards and 2-3 touchdowns.

Westbrook:
Quick feet and explosive burst should get him 80 rushing yards and 2 scores.

Staley:
Should get a few key carries and a big catch.  20 rush yards and 25 receiving yards.

Buckhalter:
Doesn't score this week, but contributes 30 rush yards.

Thrash:
Will catch 5 passes for 60 yards.

Mitchell:
Breakout time for Freddie.  95 yards and a TD.

Pinkston:
40 receiving yards.  Not much else.

Lewis:
Safety valve gets used often.  4 catches for 45 yards.

Akers:
Steady and reliable.  3 extra points and 2 field goals.

Defense:
Missing Vincent will hurt.  Taylor should be able to shut down Owens for most of the day, but Owens will still get a score.  Watch for the other receivers to get some big plays.  Barlow should have a decent rushing day and Garcia will be a good start too.

Final Score:

Niners 30
Eagles 27

Terrible game.  First and last passes of the game were interceptions.  The last one shouldn't fall completely on his shoulders as WR Freddie Mitchell waited for the ball to come to him instead of making a play on the ball.

Westbrook:
Quick feet and explosive burst should get him 80 rushing yards and 2 scores.

5 carries-29 yards, 5 catches-39 yards
Did not get used as much as he should have.  Eagles abandoned the running game too early.  Did return a punt for a TD in the game.

11 carries-53 yards, 2 TD, 1 catch-1 yard
Staley was the red-zone rusher this week in the absence of Buckhalter.  Solid effort from Staley.

Should have said, doesn't play this week.  Was suspended by the team for missing a meeting and being late to practice.

1 catch-13 yards
I can't even begin to explain this one.

Mitchell:

2 catches-23 yards
No breakout.  Had one key 4th down catch late in the game.

Pinkston:
40 receiving yards.  Not much else.

5 catches-121 yards, 1 TD
This was almost an entire season's worth of work in one game.  Hopefully this will propel Pinkston a bit during a terrible season.

Lewis:
Safety valve gets used often.  4 catches for 45 yards.

1 catch-12 yards
*yawn*

Akers:
Steady and reliable.  3 extra points and 2 field goals.

4-4 XP, 0-2 FG
Missed a 42-yarder when the wind grabbed it and knocked it down.  Announcers were befuddled at how such a well-kicked ball could die like that.  Missed another when Akers took half a step before the ball was snapped - threw off his timing and he sliced it.

Owens did next to nothing until the pass he was injured on.  Brandon Lloyd looked very good.  Barlow had a buck-and-a-half with a TD and Garcia posted solid (if unspectacular) numbers.

Niners 31

I couldn't have come much closer.  I figured this game was a trap for the Eagles against a Niners team that is Jekyll and Hyde.  The Eagles should definitely learn some lessons from this game, but losing Carlos Emmons really hurts the team.

Losing Emmons IS going to kill them.  Now, they are not only open to be run on, but the short dump off passes are going to kill them!!
