Drew Henson tracker

Well, It looks like Drew Henson may finally give up baseball. Why? Because he realizes he sucks. Even with Aaron Boone going down for the Yanks, Henson has been concentrating on football. The Houston Chronicle reports Henson has been working out with a football coach and has been attending football academies in Florida that other players are working out at. (link at bottom) This is good news for the Texans who own his rights until the 2004 draft. They can trade him for a higher draft pick. Henson can reenter the draft, but he has no say on where he goes. If he is traded, he has some input. In addition, he could probably justify more money in a contract if he is traded for. On a side note, I think Charlie Casserly is a mastermind of the draft. He always manages to make late round smart picks, smart trades, and finding that diamond in the rough. Since he has been with Houston, he has drafted Carr, Dominik Davis, Andre Johnson, Jabar Gaffney, and many others. Some teams don't even have there first rounders from 2-3 years ago even playing. http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/fb/nfl/2374311

Ah yes, he was a sixth rounder, but he will not get a sixth round contract. Every team knows that he would have been a 1st rounder if he came out. Plus, he can go to a team he would like to go to if he goes before the draft. He could go to Buffalo, Green Bay, Pittsburgh, or Buffalo, which would all be good fits.(and all have expressed interest in him.) It is nice to be able to bargain with 4 teams instead of just one. If he is drafted, he has no say what team he goes to.

Casserly and Tom Condon, Henson's agent, are scheduled to meet with several teams at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis this week, and more teams are expected to accept the Texans' trade parameters as well. Casserly declined to identify the team that has already accepted the terms. Henson will be allowed to visit with the team that has met the Texans' initial asking price, but it's uncertain when that will take place. Teams looking to acquire Henson must first agree to the trade parameters. |
| Rumor has it that this unidenified team is the Cleveland Browns. Now this would be interesting.......
