Don't Believe The HYPE... Peerless Price

...It's A Sequel!

Leading up to the season, we are going to do these occasional "Don't Believe The Hype... It's A Sequel!" threads.  Basically, these threads will be for conducting debates, stating cases for or AGAINST (the wave of opinion) and perhaps ultimately just taking polls on players who heretofore have not lived up to expectations, BUT for "some" reason are being hyped going into '04.  Along the lines of this functioning as simply a poll of sorts, please do remember, especially if you explain away your position, to submit a "BOTTOM LINE" vote literally in the last line of your message.

Moving right along,...

This one is dedicated to Peerless Price, who, after a huge season in Buffalo, laid a huge egg in his first year in Atlanta, granted for the most part without the aid of Michael Vick.  What that means... he can't get it done for himself or by himself, an indicative quality of your quintessential, run-of-the-mill #2 NFL wideout.  Price may rebound this year to the tune of 1000-ish yards and up to a half-dozen touchdowns.  But, even though Price may have the better stats this year, Michael Jenkins will become Vick's #1 go-to guy.  So, buyer beware, keeper leaguers!!!

My all-in-all "bottom line" vote on Peerless Price for '04 - (relatively speaking at least) ... Once a (true) #2, always a (true) #2 (think Jake Reed, Alvin Harper, Albert Connell, and the list goes on)...  He will never be what we once thought he might be when he left Buffalo for Atlanta!!!

Next "batter" up...

Peerless Price had a monster year when he wasn't the only option with a good quarterback 2 years ago. Well guess what this year he is not the only option and he will have a good quaterback all year. Warrick Dunn will alway have some attention focused to him in the passing game and you have to show some respect to Dez White, this kid can play and will demand respect on the deep ball.

Bottom Line Peerless Price, believe the hype. While he only caught 64 ball and 3 TDs last year this year will be a 90 catch 8 td year!!!!

Last season, Peerless Price played out of position (at split-end) and without a real QB for most of the season.  He only had Brian Finneran to take the pressure off him, and Brian Finneran isn't the type to draw double-teams.  On top of it all, he was learning a new offense.

Now, a year later he is back to a position (flanker) that he had success at in Buffalo and one he feels more comfortable with.  He has a healthy (so far) Vick at QB. Add an athletic (and big) rookie WR in Jenkins, and a slot receiver in Dez White, who has impressed the coaching staff in camp, to the mix.  The only possible drawback is that there is, once again, a new offense.  However, this WCO should suit Price's talents to a tee.  Short quick patterns are perfect for the undersized Price.

So I say, , this one's real, so BELIEVE the hype.

I am with you. Michael Jenkins is the real one to keep an eye on.

And like the Dog said, Dez White has got some burners on the deep ball!

I just don't see Price as anything more than a #3 on fantasy squads.

Where is all this Dez White love coming from?  The guy is a stiff in Chi-town, dropping balls and only catching 2 for over 30 yds!  A true burner would catch more than 2 > 30.   I don't think he'll open things up like people here are purporting.

The WCO is a big change from Vick's previous style.  He's going to have some adjustments and my jury is still out on what that means for his productivity.  When you try to limit a running QB to the pocket, it just changes their mentality and eventually, their game.  This will limit PPs #s.

Price is a nice sized receiver who would be a Pro-Bowler on the opposite side of a superstar, but he shouldn't be a 1st receiver on your board.
