Which QB do you like better for this year:

Pennington or Bulger?

Bulger seems hot and cold this camp and the STL offensive line is battered.  QB scoring is as follows:

Points per pass completion (incremental):

1-15 = .25 pts per completion
16-30 = .50 pts per completion
31+ = .75 pts per completion

Points per passing yard (incremental):

0-350 = .04 pts per yard
351+ = .06 pts per yard

Points per rush attempt (incremental):

1-5 attempts - .25 pts per attempt
6-10 attempts - .5 pts per attempt
11+ attempts - .75 pts per attempt

Points per rushing yard (incremental):

0-50 = .05 pts per yard
51-100 = .10 pts per yard
100+ = .15 pts per yard

Passing TD = 6 pts

Passing 2 pt conv = 2 pts

Any thoughts?

I got to give you the REALLY quick answer here, bro.

1) I like Bulger more than Pennington, outright; system considerations, for sure.

2) Timing is key:  Pennington may have a rough start to the season with Moss and Chrebet having been out all preseason and his not really yet getting on the same page with McCareins.

Good luck!

Thanks Steg!  That's the way I was leaning.  If you introduce salary and salary cap considerations into the equation (which I omitted), it also favors Bulger (Bulger is significantly cheaper.)

Thanks for the quick feedback!

I like Pennington Better.  Bulger is just too inconsistent for my tastes.  Pennington has an incredible completion percentage.  From what I've read, Pennington and McCareins are really clicking in practice.  Moss will be fine when he comes back, and if Chrebet can't get healthy, their rookie, Jerricho Cotchery has been very impressive too.

Plus, Bulger has a shaky o-line with Turley out for the season now.  Also remember that Bulger couldn't beat out a bad Kurt Warner before the 2003 season and only got back in the lineup when Warner got beat up in week one.

Excellent points.  I hate this kind of a deal.  My head says stick with Pennington but my "gut" says grab Bulger.    Or is my gut being impacted by the chili dogs I ate before thae draft yesterday.    Maybe I see if I can get a bump at another position to "sweeten" the deal.

Thanks for your input guys!

I agree with many of Philly's points.  St. Louis's o-line is surely an issue.  His other point there, though, is an era ago, so to speak.  Regarding Pennington and McCareins's clicking, they got to show it on the field before I believe it.  In preseason games, personally, McCareins has reminded me a lot of Curtis Conway.  Cotchery is appearing to be a nice #3, but a #3 nevertheless.  Though Philly may be right and Pennington and Moss may hit the ground running, I wouldn't be surprised if it takes them a bit to get back on the same page.  If Bulger is that much cheaper, I would take him over Pennington if for no other reason than the fantasy-friendly offensive scheme Bulger plays in vis-a-vis Pennington and the tough secondaries Pennington has to contend with in the AFC East vis-a-vis the soft ones in the NFC West.
