Favre or Carr?
« on: Nov 12th, 2004, 10:34am »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

big game this week, its a must win for me.  Both of these guys are playing against sketchy defs.   Do I take Favre at home against Minny or Carr away against Indy?  I like Favre esp. with the bye week, but I fear ahman green getting a lot of carries, and the Pack not needing to pass. On the other hand, Houston's def sucks, so that's going to be a shootout.  Help me out here please...

I'd go Carr here. Indy will probably get out to an early lead, forcing Carr to throw- a lot.

agreed.   Carr and Johson should have a great day vs INDY.  There's not really a running game there to help HOU keep the score down.

Go with Carr.  I agree with the others.  Carr is solid and a matchup against the Indy defense will surely help his numbers.

For what it's worth, I'd go with Favre.  I love Carr, but I think Favre will have better numbers.

The Indy D held Daunte Culpepper to 160+ yards and only one TD.  And Houston can run the ball.  Dom Davis is finally healthy.  He had 2 TDs against a decent Denver D in week nine, so let's not discount him here.

The Viking D has been deplorable this season.  They've only had one good game and it was against a banged up Tennessee offense.  Favre should be hyped for a game against an NFC North rival.  And don't forget that Ahman Green is heavily involved in the GB passing game.

Peyton manning has never thrown for 300+ yards againest 4 games againest the texans...so it might not be the shoot out everyone is thinking it is...domanick davis is back and the texans wanna run more....

Now the viking got a few key LBs back....like henderson....but their pass defense is still horrid.....i say play farve at HOME....im thinking at least 3 tds this week

Wow!  High scoring could be written all over BOTH games.  But the trick is this - where will all the points come from?

MIN pass rush is inconsistent, but it's easy for Green to run on DT Hoven.  Walker will get love, but so will Green.  No way to know if the TDs will be passing or running.  Crap shoot, in my opinion.  Favre could pass his butt off or hand off a lot.

Other game - Carr has to keep up with Manning, who has about a million targets and the HOU CBs are in need of a bit more experience.  But Carr has 4 viable targets himself.  And Carr likes to get Davis out of the backfield.

My only advice is that Favre has more option at RB than Carr has, so I would play Carr.  Carr needs to pass more than Favre does, and this should be a high scoring game.

No running game in Houston? Domanick Davis is a good dual threat runner but has been indurable over the past couple of weeks. I think he will have a big day running and receiving. As far as the quarterbacks, go with Favre he'll put 'em up.

i'd go favre at home coming off the bye.

like Philly said Indy shut down C Pep last week and they could do the same to Carr.

Manning threw 268 yds & 4 TD's (4,5,10,19) against the Minny def last week.  plus James also ran for over 123 yds & caught 5 for 56 yds.

the Minny D is just plain bad - Indy passing D hasnt been good either but if they keep playing the way they did last week.....

Favre has Green who is a stud RB and also has a big role in the passing game.  besides Walker, Franks & Driver to throw to.

i like Favre this week.

I DIGRESS...

I miss ONE WEEK of post game analysis and everyone starts thinking crazy thoughts like "Indy shut down C Pep last week "

Indy did NOT shut down CPepp, the game plan was to keep the score low and close, hence OSmith and Bennett combining for more rush attempts than passes.   CPepp was 16for19 1 TD 0INT.   Granted, he didn't light it up, but they didn't want or try to light it up.   Game plan almost worked too!  if it weren't for poor coaching/clock mgmt, I think they could've won that game.

Indy will NOT shut Carr down.  Callie said it perfectly, too many options for GB, only 1 for HOU.  Expect Carr to have the better day.

Yeah, who saw that coming. I guess Philster did, which just proves even a small dog gets a bone every once in a while.   Just kidding, good call Jeff.

BTW, I started Favre over Bulger in my QFL league.

Nice call soso... anyway, I'm getting the props here because I was the first one to say go with Favre.  You just jumped on my coattails (which is a smart thing to do!) and rode the Favre wave.

What people don't realize is the huge impact rookie Bob Sanders is having on the Colts D.  He is one of the main reasons that the Vikes and Texans have been stymied for consecutive weeks now.

SOSO was right on target!
I started Carr over Brooks in my league. I really expected better #s. It apears that Indy's DEF is starting to come together. It always easier when you make the other team one demensional and force them to pass playing catch up.
I would always start Favre, unless I had Manning or Daunte.

What's really scary is that I looked at all of these opinions on Sunday a.m. and Philly's made the most sense to me, so I went with Favre after all.  So, Philly, thanks much for the advice!!
