draft ???
« on: Nov 15th, 2004, 10:09am »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

i just joined a mid season 6 team, HTH fantasy league.

never been in one like this before.  draft is tomorrow 3:15 pm est.

obviousy with only 6 teams i'm guessing everyones teams will prob be stacked.

i have the #2 pick, then 11, 14, 23, 26, 35, 38, 47, 50 and so on (14 rounds - snake order).

td = 6 pts
RB/WR - 10 yds = 1 pt
QB - 25 yds = 1 pt
int & Fum Lost = -2
def tds = 6, int, safety, fum rec = 2 pts, sacks = 1 pt, plus pts for total yds allowed (more pts for less yds allowed) and pts for total points against (more pts for less points against)

teams start 1 QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF

who would u take with #2 pick???

any advice on how to draft this type of league???

thanks. KC.

Have you played with the other owners before?  Know their tendencies or biases?

With 6 points per TD, a QB will probably be the top scorer, so someone like Manning will be huge, but I'd hope he falls to #11 and take him there.  Otherwise I'd wait until the 4th or 5th round and grab a Trent Green or Brett Favre.  If Shaun Alexander is available at #2, you have to take him.  Curtis Martin has to be a consideration, but he plays New England in week 16 (championship week?)  I also like Ahman Green the rest of the way.

I dont care if its 4 or 6 points for a passing touchdown, the fact is that Manning will still outscore anyone in the entire NFL. You can debate getting a running back and then waiting to see if you can get him at 11 but unless your playing in Jerry's Kids League he'll be gone by at least 3 and should be gone at #1. Get Manning at first chance and you can still get a quality back with your #11 pick.

yeah, i already decided to take Manning or C Pep with #2 pick and then take best avail RB/WR at 11 & 14 and then see what falls after that.  i'm pretty sure that Manning will go first but C Pep is almost as hot and both of them are way above the rest in scoring.  thanks 12

While Manning and Culpepper will score the most points over the remainder of the season (with 6 pts. per pass TD), I still don't think they are good enough value for the #1 or #2 pick overall.  A stud RB is so much more valuable for a fantasy team.

Would you rather have Brett Favre and Shaun Alexander on your FF team or Peyton Manning and Fred Taylor?  The thing is, if you are willing to wait a few rounds for a QB, you'll have Brett Favre, Shaun Alexander, and have a shot at a good #2 RB and someone like TO as your #1 WR.

Of course I've never drafted a team this late into the season, so maybe the rules change since we have a good idea who the studs and duds are for the season already.

would you still take R Moss & Holmes with a high pick?

i'm hoping Moss will be back in 2 weeks (thats what reports are) but who knows when Holmes will be back.

i dont know Philly, this will be a last second decision.

i guess i could go Alexander, Green or LT (i think he's in for a good second half) with pick #2 and depending what happens with #3-#10 go for a top WR/QB with pick #11 & #14  and see what happens after that.

tough call.  like you said, everyone knows who the studs are and everyone will prob be stacked anyway.
i guess the winner will be determined on how well each team can find the right combination of studs.

let u know how it turns out.   KC

Holmes is out for this weekend, so I wouldn't draft him high.  Since you are only playing for part of a season, I'd place much more value on players who are 100% healthy right now instead of players who routinely appear on the injury report.

Even when Randy Moss was healthy, he wasn't getting many yards.  So I'd rank him lower than he normally would be ranked.

It's pretty good that instead of making cheatsheets, you can just take the season stat sheets and that will give you a good order to take the players.  Be sure to account for remaining schedules and your playoff weeks.

Good luck and let us know how it turned out.

well, its over.  that was different.  all the teams are stacked and there are still decent players on WW.  i ended up going with C Pep with #2 pick.

other notable picks (none mine) ---- R Moss #3, Plummer #5, McNabb #6, Holmes #7, TO #10
(i wanted TO with #11 pick - almost), PIT D #15, BAL D #16, CHI D #17, PHI D #19.

overall i think i did ok - although with 6 teams i cant see anybody being able to really screw up their draft.

my team:

QB: C Pep, Green    [start 1]
RB:  LT2, Lewis, D Davis  [start 2]
WR:  Walker, Lelie, J Smith, R Williams   [start 2]
TE:  Witten, Graham   [start 1]
K:  J Brown   [start 1]
DEF:  ATL, ARI   [start 1]

somehow i got ARI with my last pick, but i might drop them for another pos player??

plenty of guys left on WW
RB - Westbrook , McGahee, Staley
WR - Rod Smith, Plax, Givens, Moulds
TE -  Boo, LJ Smith
K - Carney, Longwell, Tynes, Wilkins
DEF - NYJ, NYG, TB, IND

the only problem is now i'm seeing reports that LT2 still is not 100%.  other than that what do you think of my draft?

thanks  KC

I guess Manning went #1?

Randy Moss at #3 was WAY too early.  He won't outscore the top RBs and won't even outscore many WRs the rest of the way.  Plummer at #5 sounds like a homer pick.  And all those defenses so early?  Chicago at #17?  They have Indy this week (not to mention Minny, Houston, Detroit, and GB still left - all decent offenses.)

It's hard to comment without seeing the other teams, but you look very solid at QB.  I'd even consider trading one of them. Culpep and Green should be top 5 QBs the rest of the way.  You should be solid at RB. Even if LT2 is slowed by injury, DD has really come on of late.  WR is solid at starter with Walker and Smith. You could use a better #3.  I don't think you need to carry 2 TEs if it will be so easy to grab one off waivers (I'd keep Witten). I'd actually grab another D (TB still has 2 games against Carolina) and play matchups there since ATL and ARI are up and down.

Package LT2 with Green and see if you can upgrade...?
