Manning trade
« on: Nov 17th, 2004, 9:42pm »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

who would you rather give up for Manning?

TO or Alexander to send with Testy/Leftwich.

12 team redraft, 6-4, my lineup:

QB: Testy, Leftwich  [start 1]
RB: Alexander, Westbrook, Bettis, Duckett  [start 2]
WR: TO, J Smith, Colbert   [start 2]
TE: Wiggins, Heap   [start 1]
K: Wilkins
DEF: BUF, MIA   [start 1]

i dont know if he's serious but he offered me Manning in a lopsided trade (in my favor & this guy is in my division only 1 game back) so i know the league will disapprove but i'd take Manning (who wouldnt) so i figured i'd offer him a serious trade.  i know i have to put one of my 2 studs in the deal.  he really doesnt have any great RB's or WR's.  Vick is really his best player after Manning. what do you think?

thanks. KC

Manning is a stud, no doubt.  If there are some good free agents (eg Branch, Burleson, Lloyd, Parker) at wide receiver, then you should go for this deal.  There are usually a lot more servicable free agent wide receivers than there at the running back position.

Owens is slightly, and I mean slightly, less valuable than Alexander.  The wide receiver position usually has more variability than running back.  I would send Owens and keep Alexander.  Furthermore, Owens is a jackass.  I know that does not come into play in fantasy, but it is a whole lot easier, in my opinion, to root for some one like Alexander than Owens.

In short,; send Owens, get Manning, win the division.  Good luck.

Schedule rest of the way:

Manning:  @CHI, @DET, TEN, @HOU, BAL, SDC, @DEN

Alexander: MIA, BUF, DAL, @MIN, @NYJ, ARI, ATL (tougher than T.O.'s)

T.O.:  WAS, @NYG, GBP, @WAS, DAL, @STL, CIN

I would see Alexander the best RB down the road and T.O. the best WR down the road.  So the real question is what you need - down the road.  Of course, I don't know your scoring system.  If it's a normal one, looks like your needs are at WR.  So based on that, I would keep T.O., send Alexander and GRAB Manning.  This is just business.

However, I sure would be interested to know what his needs are that have driven him to this trade offer.

scoring - 10 yds=1pt, tds=6

his team  5-5
QB: Vick, Manning
RB: Anderson, Blaylock, Staley
WR: R Smith, Bryant, Branch, Hakim
TE: Clark, Baker
K: Graham
DEF: CIN, IND
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MY team:  6-4
QB: Testy, Leftwich
RB: Alexander, Westbrook, Bettis, Duckett
WR: TO, J Smith, Colbert
TE: Wiggins, Heap
K: Wilkins
DEF: BUF, MIA
other than Manning his team really isnt that good.  but he's still only 1 game behind me in division and i'm in 1st place.
i offered him TO, Duckett & Testy for Manning & R Smith
he accepted but it looks like its gonna be vetoed.  i thought it was a pretty fair trade but i guess they dont want me to get Manning.
Interesting league.
How many yds. for one point for passing?  Are you saying 10?  Manning could out score both teams on offense in a good game w/o T.O. and Alexander in the mix.  And obviously you have your opponent on D's.  Your main need is at QB, apparently.  Who is available on the waiver wire at QB?
Edit:  Did they forget about Breez by any chance?
SDC schedule the rest of the way:
@OAK, @KC, DEN, TB, @CLE, @IND, KC
Oh, yeah.  If you can't get Manning go get Breez instead, keep T.O. and Alexander - and then, of course, you will win your league!
Um.  All this is based on the fact that you mean PAYTON Manning, right?  If you mean ELI, forget the whole thing until you know about him.  Everything I said was about Payton.
we wouldnt be talking if it was Eli.... HA
i forgot QB scoring is 25 yds = 1pt, td = 6pts
             RB/WR 10 yds =1 pt, td= 6pts
already 4 objections to TO, Duckett & Testy for P Manning & R Smith (so it will be vetoed)
i thought it was fair.
so i offered him TO, Duckett, Colbert & Testy for P Manning & R Smith  - already 1 objection
(the trade has too make it until 11pm w/o 3 objections to go thru)
trade deadline is today so i dont think i can make any more offers cause theres supposed to be a 1 day voting period.
Brees is taken and its his only QB.
avail on WW - Garcia, Palmer, Bledsoe, McCown, Boller, Carter & Krenzel.  how about those choices? (sarcastic)
KC.
Looked like a fair deal to me... I hate league vetoes unless there is the suspicion of collusion or an completely unfair trade.
well, he originally offered me Manning for Testaverde!!!
i have no idea why but i accepted and wrote him an email telling him that the league wasnt going to let it go thru b/c it was too lopsided.  i then made him the Testy, Duckett, TO for Manning & R Smith offer which i thought was fair (b/c he still had Vick and needed a RB & WR).
i then received an email (and so did the whole league) from the league warning about  "unfair trades" etc..... naming my team and his, threatening to kick us out of the league if it happened again.
so, i wrote a nastygram back about how i didnt know anyone in the league (i dont) and that he made the offer to me (why i dont know), so why would i not accept it (who wouldnt?), but that i did email him to tell him the league would veto it and then offered him a fair trade, and that if i hadnt paid good money to join that they could have removed me anyway -  but they havent responded to me yet (i doubt they will).
who knows?  i'll let you know what happens.  2 objections as of now (3 and its vetoed) need to make it until 11:05pm.
KC.
p.s. obviously by my signature you can tell i'm an Eagles fan (Philly homer) so you know i'm lovin TO anyway and would hate to give him up.  i just thought Alexander would get me more pts the rest of the way.
well, the trade was objected by 3 teams (the max) so my last proposal went thru.
i gave up - TO, Duckett, Colbert, Testaverde
i got - P Manning, Rod Smith
i think i made out really good even though i hated to give up TO.  but i figure Alexander will get me more pts the rest of the way.  RB's usually do.  TO's not gonna get 3 tds every wk but Alexander should get the yards at the very least.
comparison between TO & Alexander as of week 10:
TO - avg pts (16.1), tds (12), tot fantasy pts (156)
Alex - avg pts (14.5), tds (12), tot fantasy pts (181)
so Alexander averages a little less but has scored 25 more pts than TO
my lineup now:
QB: Manning, Leftwich
RB: Alexander, Westbrook, Bettis
WR: J Smith, R Smith, Lloyd
K: Wilkins
DEF: BUF, MIA
a little weaker at WR but i dont think they are that bad and i made a HUGE upgrade at QB.  Manning has scored (150) pts more than Testy, so that more than makes up for the pt difference lost (70) between TO (156) & R Smith (86)
hopefully it works out.  i play the team i did the trade with in week 13.  we'll see what happens.  thanks for all the advice.  KC
Go Eagles!!  but dont throw to TO too much. HA
