Who to start at WR?
« on: Dec 15th, 2004, 2:40pm »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

I've got a pretty decent WR core.  My league starts 3 WR's
TD=6 10yds=1 and 30+TD=bonus 3

Im starting Jevon Walker (duh) and also A. Lelie.  My problem is with my 3rd WR.  I have Jerry Porter, L. Coles, and D. Branch.
Hence, my dilema.

Please help!!

Thank you

Welcome to the "Grid" Oakland. You in the Bay area?

I'd go with your boy Porter, since Collins is sure to rebound and he is his favorite target. Coles would be my second choice, followed by Branch.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice!!  Was kinda thinkn the same thing myself, but all of them have great matchups.

I read your forum all the time via junkyardjake and have seen some good advice.  Im actually a little farther north in S. Oregon, but Oaktown is the closest NFL team so GO RAIDAHS!!

Thanks again

So you think maybe I should start Coles over Lelie?  Lelie has a knack for the long ball is why I keep him in there for my bonus pts.

Whatya think?

Yes, O4L, first and foremost to "the Gridiron", my fantasy-footballing friend!  I hope you make this place your on-line home for fantasy football discussion and information.  I look forward to hopefully getting to know you better over time here.

As to your question, I would go with Coles.  None of the KC receivers really BUSTED-BUSTED out against Tennessee on Monday night.  I think they'll keep Porter coralled.  On the other hand, Coles, who has been showing a little spark lately, has a great matchup against San Francisco.  You are not dealing with clear-cut studs here.  You got to go with matchup and trend.  In that case, Coles is your man, not Porter.  Actually, I think Coles is a step up in studliness from Porter, albeit a small one.

Coles is your man.  He is the third most targeted WR in the NFL and he is going against the 49ers.  The only reason that Coles is not high up in the total points is that he only has one TD.  Coles is due for a TD one of these weeks.

Start Lelie if you get bonuses for long plays.  Either way, Lelie is a solid start.

1) Coles
2) Porter

Thanks for all the help.  I think I will go with Lelie and Coles (man that hurts, benchn my boy)  But Lelie has always been able to get the 30 yd TD catch, and Im not sure if Porter will be able to get the long one off of the Titans.

Im almost tempted to bench J. Walker for Porter, for the simple fact of weather and match up, but Walker has that Big play ability and that would be just my luck to bench walker and him have an explosive game...LOL.

Anyway, thanks again, and hopefully I'll take this roster to the Supah Bowl!!!

I'd be tempted to go with Porter this week (Ronald Curry is done and the Tennessee secondary is missing nearly all its players - Samari Rolle, Lance Schulters, Andre Woolfolk)...

However, Coles is the safer bet.  He showed the team that he would make the tough catch last week (and made 12 in all) so I'm sure he's gained the confidence of Ramsey and Gibbs.  I'd start Coles as the #3 and feel good about it.

I would definitely go with Porter over Coles this week.  As Philly mentioned, the Titan secondary is a mess, and the Oakland passing game has been clicking when they play at home.  With Coles, remember if the Redskins don't have to pass, then they won't, and the anemic San Francisco offense is not a threat to score many points against the solid Redskin defense.

1.  Coles - Leads the league as a target.  49ers have a lousy secondary.

2.  Lelie - Every WR has been getting KC lately.

3.  Porter - I would put Porter first this week if it weren't for the rest of the team.  Still, I'd play him as a WR3, no prob.

4.  Walker - Tough matchup, if Mathis is on him.

5.  Branch - Who knows who will get what.
