McNabb & Westbrook

Anyone else in my shoes?  I'm playing for the championship in two leagues and I have McNabb and Westbrook.  I am very concerned that both will not play at all.  My problem is that my alternatives are (I can arrange my roster so McNab and Westbrook are in flex positions):

Maurice Hicks (get pts per rush attempt)
Jeff Reed (3 pts per FG, 5 pts form 25-40, 7 pts 40-50, 10 pts 50+)

These guys are better options if McNabb and Westbrook don't play because the will sore some points (especially Reed since it may be a defensive struggle vs. the Ravens).

Thoughts???

I too have Westbrook and need him on the field producing.  ...  It is a dilemma the conclusion of which we will probably not know until after the game is over.  McNabb you may want to bench.  He may not be that good anyway over these last two games without Owens.  He probably reverts back to just being average (fantasy-wise), maybe even worse because he has become SO reliant on Owens.  Westbrook, on the other hand, his fragility aside, may be worth leaving in your lineup.  What I gather from what I've watched and heard is that with Owens out Westbrook has to become their go-to guy and they are going to need to work in some new schemes for him, especially split out, and get him comfortable with them over these last two games.  Westbrook is still probably worth leaving in your lineup Week 16 (and Week 17).  Good luck!

The person who runs the Eagles official website posted (on the forums at philadelphiaeagles.com) that Westbrook would not be playing at all.  Andy Reid heard about it, acted surprised and a little taken aback, and the thread quickly disappeared.

There is probably some truth to that since Reno Mahe is healthy again, Dorsey Levens has been running well, and they want to get Thomas Tapeh some action.  I imagine McNabb will play at least 1/2 of the game.

Well, Chumpman, regarding Westbrook, who I have in the GBRFL, based on Philly's post above and the AP article procured from "The REAL Feed", http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=531&ncid=531& ;e=7&u=/ap/20041224/ap_on_sp_fo_ne/fbn_eagles_westbrook, I made the last-minute decision to try my best to get Westbrook out of my starting lineup.  I don't know if I'll succeed.  It depends on how the free-agents shake out.  Let's put it this way, though...  I still have him ahead of Travis Minor, who I currently have on my roster.  Oh, brother! ...

Well, I just did the free-agents for the GBRFL...  Westbrook ends up in my lineup as it turns out.  I had gone after Levens and Morris #2-3 on my free-agent request list.  This situation notwithstanding, I still really wanted Antwaan Randle El and left him as my first choice and I did not go after anybody in the second round of free-agency because I did not have a second guy I wanted to drop (this week at least).  I didn't think I would get Randle El, in any event.  Well, I did!  It's kind of bitter-sweet.  He is the player I "really" wanted, but, truth be said, making a long-shot run at the Championship here, Levens or Morris probably would have been better pickups for me.  Oh, brother...

Thanks for the feedback guys!  This stinks to be in this position for championship week but not much I can do!    I am able to make roster moves up until gametime in two of the leagues.  I positioned my flex (can be any positopn but team defense) so that I can start McNabb or Westbrook.  If one is ruled out I will start the other.  If both sit I'm screwed.  Both leagues do not allow FA pick-ups during the post season.

I have one final option... that is to start Maurice Hicks or William Green and sit both McNabb and Westbrook.  Unfortunately, since Philly plays Monday, once I make this type of decision, I gotta live with it.  That's why I left it kind of open with having one spot for McNabb or Westbrook.  Thoughts?

on this note..... i have Alexander (no brainer start), Westbrook & Bettis.

do i play Bettis vs BAL - looks like he is starting again.

or take my chances with Westbrook @ STL, that he plays long enough to make a difference (at least more than Bettis)

what do you think? thanks.  KC.

Yes, do that.

Yes, keep a spot open to start McNabb/Westbrook?  Or start one of Hicks/Green?  I was assuming the first but thought I'd ask!  Thanks again for your insight!!

Watch this 180 I do for kc's question...  kc, I would actually stick Westbrook in and hope for the best, hope that he breaks a long one early in the game before being taken out.  Bettis has never faired well against the Ravens and I don't think that will change tomorrow.  On the other hand, for obvious reasons, the safer bet probably is Bettis.  I just think, based on his matchup, it's worth rolling the dice on Westbrook.

...

Chumpman, I was ultimately making a joke (as per that message's message icon).  I really don't know what to recommend to you.  I suppose I would go with McNabb and Hicks and hope for the best.  Hicks's matchup is not good, though, but not as bad as Bettis's discussed above.  Green's is as bad and on top of that he has to fight for PT with Suggs.  McNabb will do something better than what Green is capable of tomorrow.  Best of luck!

Hey guys.  Any advice throughout the day on this one is appreciated.  I have to decide whether I start Westbrook or McNabb in my flex position tonight.  I haven't heard anything new as to whether either or both will play.  Please see the background below:

Super Bowl Game - 16 Team League - Current Score is 147.25 to 141 (I'm losing).  He has no more players going.  I have Bulger and McNabb/Westbrook.

Scoring is a follows:

QB:

Points per Pass Completion:

1-15 = .25 pts each
16-30 = .50 pts each
31+ = .75 pts each

Points per Rushing Attempt:

1-5 =  .25 pts each
6-10 = .50 pts each
11+ = .75 pts each

Sack = -2 pts each
Interceptions = -2 pts each
Fumbles = -2 pts each
TD's = 6 pts each

Passing Yards = 1 pt per 50 yards
Rushing Yards = .5 pt per 10 yards.

RB:

Points per Rushing Attempt:

1-10 = .25 pts each
11-20 = .50 pts each
21+ = .75 pts each

TD's = 6 pts each
Fumbles = -2 pts each

Receptions = .5 pts each

Rushing/Receiving Yards = 1 pt per 20 yards.

I think I should win with Bulger alone but I am concerned that he takes a hit and gets knocked out (because of his shoulder).  That's why I would like to maximize my return on the McNabb/Wesbrook option.  Thoughts?

Yikes! Flip a coin on that one...  I would go with McNabb over Westbrook just because the quarterback actually touches the ball on EVERY play, the tailback doesn't.  I know that seems ridiculous and, of course, my bias is in the opposite direction as I have Westbrook myself, but it seems in this particular situation it is about the best rationale I can come up with.  Of course, with respect to kc's question above, my rationale was hideously wrong regarding Bettis, so... Good luck!

I agree with Steg, it's probably much safer to start McNabb over Westbrook.   If anyone is yanked from the Eagles lineup to safeguard against injuries, it is most likely going to be Westbrook.

Besides, given the passing inclination of the Eagle offense, even if Westbrook puts up crazy points, you would have to think that McNabb will have to be involved anyway.  Westbrook has scored on very few rushing plays, with most of his TDs the result of short passes that he turns into big plays.

All appearances indicate that Westbrook won't see the field tonight and McNabb will play no more than a quarter.

Garry Cobb just reported from St. Louis (on the Angelo Cataldi show - Comcast) that Westbrook has been deactivated for the game.  He also stated that McNabb will not see much action.  The first report about Westbrook contradicts other sources (I have seen that Westbrook was starting) but I am just reporting what I have just heard.

Okay, no response needed...  Just saw on ESPN Monday Night Countdown that Westbrook will be inactive and McNabb will play only sparingly, perhaps a quarter or so.

For me, this is actually okay.  Travis Minor goes in for me.  Not bad.  He didn't hurt me and actually had a good yards-per-rush.  On the other hand, my opponent has McNabb...  OUCH!!! Looks like we're takin' it to Week 17 in the GBRFL!!!

Sorry... was putting this up quickly and didn't have time to find a link.  This was based on some leaked info from Eagles website editor Dave Spadaro late last week and also from WIP sportsradio.  Nothing substantial, but some pretty strong rumors that turned out to be accurate.

Hey guys!  Thanks for your insight.  Fortunately, it couldn't have worked out better (Well, the Eagles could have beat the Rams with their second team.  That would have been better).  McNabb won me the game by completing three passes and then the TD to Freddie.  Bulger's stats were a bonus!  Thanks again!!
