Keep this news on the radar.  I heard this on ESPN Radio today, came home to see what I could find....

I did find one little quote:

Jacksonville running back Fred Taylor's knee injury means he's out for June and new offensive coordinator Carl Smith left open the possibility that Taylor could miss the season.

This could be major news that no one is talking about. (YET)  If Taylor is hurt, this paves a way for a couple of possibilities.  The Jags will trade for a RB...  OR  You will see Greg Jones get the opportunity to step up.

This whole situation seems weird.  There is a HUGE difference between June and THE REST OF THE SEASON.

I read that somewhere a week ago or so.  The whole thing seemed a little fishy to me.  The fact that they drafted Alvin Pearman says that they aren't sure that Fred is going to go in the fall.  Jones and Pearman (I hear Toefield is on the outs) make a fairly nice tandem.

Travis Henry

The outlook for running back Fred Taylor continues to dim. Details from Taylor's camp have been sketchy, but teammates say Taylor has told them his knee surgery in January was much more extensive than the club initially let on. Taylor now has damage to both the MCL and PCL in his left knee, and his availability for the start of training camp and perhaps the opening of the regular season appears to be in question. Taylor hasn't participated in any of the offseason programs that involve team drills, and the Jaguars are actively looking for a veteran. Eddie George isn't a viable option, but Buffalo's Travis Henry seems to be a strong trade possibility. . .

News regarding Taylor's recovery is mixed.  From "The REAL Feed":

Injured Jag Taylor says he tore two knee ligaments
ESPN: NFL (24.06.2005 09:36)
Running back expects to be recovered by July camp by Len PasquarelliJacksonville Jaguars star running back Fred Taylor remains confident he will be recovered at some point in training camp next month, but revealed that the left knee injury he suffered late last season was more severe than either...

There seems to be quite a bit of "spin-doctoring" coming from Taylor and out of Jag's camp.  For Taylor's part, I don't think he wants the team bringing in veteran talent which could eventually cost him his paycheck, so he has good reason to put a positive slant on the situation.  The team, I think, is just trying not to show their cards.  Honestly, and I just took him in an "experts" league draft, I think the situation is IFFY at best.

Another high pick in,... converted-college-QB-to-WR Matt Jones.  From "The REAL Feed":

JONES FOR JAGUARS
Sporting Life: NFL (02.08.2005 14:14)
Jacksonville have all their 2005 draft picks in the fold after Matt Jones agreed a contract.
