Raiders ink Jerry Porter to a long term deal. Woodson will get the tag again this season.

I wonder what the hell the Raiders are thinking.  Charles Woodson is good, but he is getting older and often injured.

The Raiders are tagging Woodson as a non-exclusive franchise player so he can't just walk away as a free agent.  Now they'll shop him to the highest bidder or keep him.

A lot of changes are in the offing for Oakland.  They're carrying a lot of dead money against the cap, but there are a lot of places to do some pruning.

Woodson leaving Oakland?

Woodson and Poston made a GREAT move in screwing the Raiders.  They are forcing the Raiders hands.  The Raiders did not expect Woodson to sign the offer.  With Woodson signing the deal, the Raiders could not take the Tag off the table.  With Woodson signing, the Raiders are $17 mil OVER the cap without Porters new deal or Moss figured in.

He will be out of there VERY soon.

Watson, the game is afoot!  (Sherlock Holmes)

I do not have any links that were satisfying, but the rumor mill is saying that maybe the Woodson situation is setting up a plan to send Woodson to Miami and to get Ricky Williams to Oakland.  I cannot figure out the mechanism for something like this, and everything mentions it with smoke and mirrors.  But we all know that Williams wants to be a Raider and Woodson does NOT want to be a Raider.  The rumor says that Williams would have a four regular season game penalty, and then he could play.

Let me know if you hear anything!

Great move for both sides.  LaMont looked great at times last year and could be huge for the Raiders (even though they will being passing a lot!!)

I don't know the salary cap situation, but they will probably be forced to make some major cuts at other positions.

They've already let Buchanon go.  The 30th ranked D is going to struggle to move up even 1 spot next season.   But Oakland will do what Minny has done for 7 years....sell out and be exciting to watch offensively.

Nice concise article on the Raiders' team needs:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=citadel-2_359223_66&prov=citad el&type=lgns

The inside story is that Raider Nation is not very happy about the 3-4 D (but the coaching staff is still there), and this year the draft could be a whole lot better.  Watch for a little vulturing to come.

Raider Nation wants some defensive linebackers.

Sorry... had no internet access this weekend...  This is a nice signing for the Raiders.  I think the Eagles had no intentions of resigning him.  Burgess has a world of talent and potential, but he just can't stay healthy.  You saw what he could do in the playoff game against the Falcons.  He really shut Vick down and didn't let him scramble at all.  He's a solid pass rusher and will also play the run.

More Raider cap room - Davis expects Gannon to retire.

"It's unlikely there will be anything official until after June 1 for salary-cap purposes. If Gannon retired before June 1, the Raiders would sustain a bonus acceleration hit of more than $4.3 million. After June 1, the acceleration is pushed to the 2006 cap."

The Raiders play the first game of the season on Thursday, Sept 8th in New England. This will be the first time the Raiders play the Patriots since the infamous "tuck rule" snowjob game.

The Raiders' 2005 schedule is out.  (http://www.nfl.com/schedules).
Here are some items of interest:

First two weeks of the season, the Raiders play night games.  (Primetime TV!)

An early bye (Wk. 5) between two home games.  (THAT could have gone better!)

Non-divisional games are:
   @ New England
   @ Philadelphia
   Dallas
   Buffalo
   @ Tennessee
Miami (this year it's not a hot early-Sept. game in Florida!)
   @ Jets
   Cleveland
   Giants

We have a Christmas Eve game (4:00 EST) in Denver.
We have a New Year's Eve night game (8PM EST) at home.  (Giants)

Raiders trade Buchanon to Texans for draft picks.

"An NFL source with knowledge of the deal, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Oakland would receive a second-round and third-round pick in this weekend's NFL draft."

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n/a/2005/04/20/sports/s001638D0 0.DTL

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=knight-raidersdealbuchanontotexa&a mp;prov=knight&type=lgns

"The Raiders also are looking to deal four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Charles Woodson, who signed a $10.5 million tender in February as Oakland's franchise player."

"Oakland now has nine draft picks in the two-day, seven-round process. The Raiders are without a first-rounder, but they have two each in the second and third rounds, one in the fourth and four in the sixth. The Buchanon trade gives them the 47th pick overall."

Raiders send Jolley to Jets for first round draft pick!!!!!

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-jets-raiderstrade&prov=ap&a mp;type=lgns

KFFL Breaking News
Raiders Acquire First-round Pick; Jets Receive Jolley

"ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Oakland Raiders have traded TE Doug Jolley to the New York Jets for the Jets' first-round draft choice, No. 26 overall. It is also believed the Raiders, in addition to Jolley, sent a second-round draft choice to the Jets."

Guess Al ain't dead yet!

"Jolley, a fourth-year tight end out of Brigham Young University, goes to New York along with a second-round pick in exchange for the Jets' 26th overall pick, one Raiders source and one NFL source said, both speaking on condition of anonymity. The swap would be contingent on Jolley passing a physical."

Aren't those Raiders busy little buggers?

Oakland Raiders get:
1st rounder (26)
7th rounder (240)

New York Jets get:
TE Doug Jolley
2nd rounder (47)
6th rounder (182)
6th rounder (185)

(All of the picks the Raiders gave up originally belonged to other teams.  Just some interesting trivia.)

You gotta give OAK top marks for this offseason.  They have issues at CB, at secondary in general really.  Their DLine is aging too, but they have done really well this offseason.  Heck, just landing the best WR in the game ( and probably someday the best to ever play the game)  is a major coup!
