If Henry is the main man in Jacksonville, he will be a very hot commodity this year. Obviously a lot hinges on Taylor's health. Apparently the Jaquars said that Taylor's recent workouts were very strong. If this is true, why is Del Rio saying that the Jags are about to trade for Henry? I can only guess that Taylor is not as healthy as they would like us to believe.

It would be wild if the Jaguars were bluffing. The timing of their announcement is interesting. I think your first point is on target. The reports that Taylor is doing very well are likely designed to make the Jaguars appear to be less desperate for Henry. Some reports say that the Jaguars want to sign Henry to an extension before they trade for him. If this it true, why would Henry sign an extension if he was not going to be the feature back in Jacksonville? Henry is trying to extricate himself from a reduced role in Buffalo. It is unlikely that he would want to tie himself into a system where the same thing would happen. My guess is that Henry goes to the Jaguars and Fred Taylor's value drops like a stone.

Can someone help me out? Why would the Titans want to give up a draft pick for Henry? I thought that Brown put up some solid numbers and showed a lot of promise. Is he injured? I have to admit that I have not been monitoring this a lot since last season.

| lumberman, Brown did have that broken wrist this offseason. I just think that he has shown a history of being a bit fragile. His upright running style without the Adonis build of Eddie George makes him very vulnerable to injury. on Jul 16th, 2005, 10:09am, Chumpzilla wrote:This whole thing is a mess. | Yea, Chumpman, I just saw Mort on ESPN this morning. He DEFINITELY indicated Tennessee as Henry's destination as soon as early next week, not even mentioning Jacksonville. As for his heading to Tennessee, I was able to dig this ONE story up from the LOCAL/OFFICIAL sources on "the Gridiron Newsstand" that cover the Titans: http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050716/SPORTS01/5 07160333/1027. On the other hand, here is more of the Jacksonville talk: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/jaguars/2005-07-15-henry-tra de_x.htm; http://www.profootballweekly.com/PFW/Features/Free+Agency/2005/news07130 5.htm.

Steg Good points. I did not even think about the broken wrist. Do you think Henry would put up bigger numbers in Tennessee or Jacksonville?

Probably about the same in either place, BUT, all things equal, I do think he has a better chance of wresting the job from Brown; however, all things are not equal, I do also believe that injury-prone Taylor's injury is much worse and meriting concern than Brown's. Again, I think the conclusion is six of one, a half dozen of the other. Right now, you'd have to assume that either place he'd go, he'd create a two-headed monster backfield, a RBB2-manC. This screws up both Henry's and Taylor's or Brown's numbers. BUT, if Henry is the guy, he is the real deal and could easily put up 1,300 to 1,450 yards in either of those systems.

Here is the latest!!! Bills will get third-round pickBy Len Pasquarelli ESPN.com The Tennessee Titans have reached agreement in principle on a trade to acquire disgruntled Buffalo Bills tailback Travis Henry and, barring unexpected complications, the deal will be announced early next week. Travis Henry Running Back Buffalo Bills Profile 2004 SEASON STATISTICS Rush Yds TD Rec Yds TD 94 326 0 10 45 0 In return for Henry, who last season lost his starting job to Willis McGahee and who has not participated in any of the Bills' offseason sessions, Buffalo will receive a 2006 third-round draft choice. The paperwork for the trade, which is not contingent upon the Titans reaching a contract extension agreement with Henry, has been forwarded to the league offices. The trade is contingent, as are most deals, on the 26-year-old Henry passing a Tennessee-administered physical exam. "From what we've been told, Travis is headed to Tennessee," agent Hadley Engelhard said on Saturday morning. "I don't know if Floyd [Reese, Titans general manager] will try to do an extension or not. We'll have to wait and see about that." Henry is entering the final season of his contract and is scheduled to have a base salary of $1.25 million for 2005. If he does not sign an extension, Henry will become an unrestricted free agent next spring. Tennessee officials have been attempting for much of the spring to solidify the tailback situation behind starter Chris Brown, a two-year veteran whose brief career has so far been marred by injuries. Brown rushed for 1,067 yards in 2004, his first year as the starter after replacing Eddie George, but missed five games with injuries. Brown also missed five games in his 2003 rookie season, is currently recovering from a broken hand sustained in an offseason practices, and his durability is a concern. Henry has also suffered some injury problems in his NFL career but is also noted for his toughness, as exemplified by the fact that he played the latter part of the 2003 season with a hairline leg fracture. It's a good bet that Titans coach Jeff Fisher will like Henry's toughness, and it will not be surprising if the hard-running back pushes Brown for the starting spot. Despite reports earlier in the week that the Jacksonville Jaguars were close to acquiring Henry, they did not make a trade offer to the Bills until Friday night. The Jags also offered a third-round choice. In their quest to add a proven tailback as an insurance policy against the possibility that star Fred Taylor might not be fully rehabilitated from knee surgery for the start of the regular season, the Jaguars had completed one crucial element in a potential acquisition of Henry. The Jaguars earlier this week reached agreement in principle with Henry on a multi-year contract extension. But the Jaguars lagged in the second half of the equation: satisfying the price tag of Buffalo general manager Tom Donahoe, who had all along been seeking a third-round draft pick in return for the four-year veteran back. By the time Jacksonville finally made a proposal to Buffalo, the Bills were more inclined to accept the Titans' offer. A tough and determined inside runner who's had two 1,000-yard seasons, Henry was an attractive back for both teams, in part because of the injury problems of their current starters. In four seasons, Henry has carried 963 times for 3,849 yards and 27 touchdowns. He also has 103 catches for 691 yards and two scores. The former University of Tennessee player, a second-round pick of the Bills in 2001, rushed for more than 1,000 yards in 2002 and '03. He has appeared in 54 games and started 48. | Yes, a little. But, just the fact that Jax was looking when they already have a capable #2 guy is troublesome. Henry to Tennessee elevates Toefield's projections more than it does Fred Taylor's. I also don't see it doing much to Chris Brown... maybe it makes him even better? Maybe he will play when he has a hangnail now? One definite - it makes Tennessee a better overall team.

I've read that the Jags were likely only involved in recent weeks to raise the price tag for their division rivals, the Titans. First off, the Jags are not the most media friendly outfit, so why would they keep trumpeting the fact that they were close to a deal with Henry? Also, why would they keep saying this to the media when they have to protect Fred Taylor (who they have said was fine all along when, in fact, he wasn't)? The move of Henry to Tennessee really muddles things in my mind. If Brown is hurt, then Henry is a stud, but if Brown is healthy then what happens? Do they split carries? Does Brown get the nod? It's not a situation that I'd really want to be involved in.

Well, now, on "the Gridiron Newsstand" I'm reading these contradictory LOCAL reports: One titled "Henry deal gets Titans tough back" - http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050717/SPORTS01/5 07170386/1027; The other titled "Titans say Henry not done deal" - http://www.knoxnews.com/kns/titans_football/article/0,1406,KNS_334_39340 92,00.html (headline here for this one: http://www.knoxnews.com/kns/titans_football/). WTF!?!?
