FANTASY SLANT OVERVIEW
If you have a colt on your roster you probably left your draft thinking you were assured a fair share of some serious fantasy points. Manning setting records and James running wild. How could you go wrong. This offence is without a doubt the best in the NFL. You have 2 top 10  wide recievers, a top 5 running back, a top 5 tight end and a top 2 quarterback. The only thing that could hurt you is the loss of Manning. That shouldn't happen. Manning has been a fantasy iron man since starting as a QB in his rookie season.

FANTASY DEPTH CHART
QB: Payton Manning
2QB Jim Sorgi
RB1 Edgerrin James
RB2 Dominic Rhodes
RB3 James Mungro
WR 1 Marvin Harrison
WR 2 Reggie Wayne
WR 3 Brandon Stokley
B.U WR John Standeford  (r) Purdue
B.U WR Aaron Morehead
T.E  Dallas Clark
T.E 2 Ben Hartsock
K   Mike VanderJagt

If you have a front line roster player from this group you have done well. These guys score points. Vanderjagt is coming off a down year because Manning set a TD record. There is no reason to believe he wont be the highest scoring kicker in the league this year. Harrison and Wayne will as always be above average in yardage  and TD's as long as Manning is behind center. Manning loves to throw to his tight ends in the red zone making Clark a prime time tight end. The only question mark would be Edge. He is in the last year of his contract and is a player that has often spoken in the first person. How often he will be willing to stick that knee out to grind an extra yard will remain to be seen. With that said, he's still a 12 to 15 TD man. Thats darn good in most cases.
When you consider back ups for this team, the first question is; is Payton OK? If yes, then Dominic Rhodes will be aquired by your compitition faster than Edge can say Ouch! That guy will bust it in there. He wont bang out alot of yards, but he will score in the red zone. If one of the starting three wide outs get hurt, then expect the other starters numbers to go up. Back ups for these positions will not be productive. Manning and his recievers spend lots of time in the offseason  playing catch. This only includes the 3 starters.
Now that pollard is gone as the starting Tight end, Dallas Clark will score in bunches. His back up is Ben Harsock. There will be many other fantasy tight end options before Hartsock should be considered. If Manning becomes injured for an extended lenth of time, after a good cry, trade any Colt player you have. Jim Sorgi is not Payton Manning. In fact he's not Kyle Boller. He will make everyone on that team average at best. This is not a place to replace a quarterback.

THIS WEEK
The Colts roll to B-More to play the Ravens in a Sunday Nite special in front of a crowd of crazy ex Colt fans. Gee, do you think they might still hold a small grudge about the Irsays midnite move. This town will promote this like its going out of style. The Ravens love to play a physical style of football, while the Colts would like to be left alone to chuck it up. Manning, who loves to call plays at the line of scrimmage, might find it a little loud in B-More. The Ravens are a team that likes to create holes for thier Linebackers to run thru. A defensive line that "pass rush blocks "if you will. ( I made that up) They get after the QB in a hurry. They rush the throw and dont allow the recievers to get deep. The Raven DB's and Safety's have great closing speed and will create lots of turnovers when a QB is rushed. This does not bode well for a great Fantasy result. While your Colt players should be some of the most valuble players in the league, this week they will put up moderate numbers at best. You always start these guys when Payton is behind center because when they are bad they are ok and when they are good ......

INJURY SLANT
Dallas Clark is a game time decision. If you put your ear against his head you can hear the ocean. If he doesnt play then this will weaken the short passing game. As fast as the Ravens get after the QB, this further weakens the value of Colt players this week.

COLT RECAP

Colts 24
Ravens 7

The Raven defense really got after it in the first half of Sunday night's ball game. At the end of 2 quarters it was 3 - 0 colts. That's disappointing even if your only Colt is vanderjagt. As posted here, Manning does not like to be hurried, and was forced to throw the ball well before he wanted to.

Manning = 21/36 for 254 yards and 2 TD's

Payton had an average fantasy day. There were 8 other QB's with more passing yards along with 14 other QB's with 2 or more TD passes. Disappointing numbers for a guy you drafted no# 1. Fret not, for he's no Daunte Culpepper who isn't in the top 10 in either category.

Harrison and Wayne also had average days. Both had trouble getting separation unless there was a mistake in the secondary. Harrison had a rushed throw sail over his head while open by 20 yards. That doesn't happen often. Wayne dropped a few passes on balls that seemed to get to him early in his route. Give credit to the Rat birds for that.

Harrison = 6 for 69yrds and 1 TD
Wayne = 4 for 50yrds

Edge had a nice day. I questioned his effort and through tough hard fought yards he proved me wrong. The Ravens put 52 on Edge and held him in check for the most part. Even so, Edge mustered over 100 all purpose yards. They will both be sore for the next couple of days.

Edge = 23 for 88yrd and 3 rec for 26yrds

DONT GET CAUGHT

I told you that the Dallas Clark injury was going to have a huge effect on the game. Ben Hartsock was also unavailable. That left the 3rd T.E in Ben Utecht as the starter. When you read the scoring summary you will see:

Ben Utecht, 26 yd TD pass from Manning.

Bens game stats:  1 for 26 and 1 TD

Manning threw to him a 1/2 dozen times. He failed to even see the ball a couple of times. He received an ear full from Manning on several occasions. He just seemed lost.  This guy wont be around long after Clark and Hartsock return. Save your money.

GET CAUGHT UP

 Keep an eye on Dwight Freeney and the rest of the Colt defense. It is beginning to look like coach Dungy is getting the right personnel to play the cover two like he had in Tampa. Freeney embarrassed Ogdon all nite. These guys may be worth a bye week look. Purhaps more than that. Then again, you have to give some credit to the Rat Birds.
