On the Post Gazette this morning:

Linebacker Joey Porter practiced yesterday and had no idea he was listed as questionable on the injury report this week.

"I didn't know anything about this until you guys tell me," Porter told writers. "I'm preparing myself to get ready to play a Monday night game. If you want to talk about injuries, you have to talk to coach Cowher."

Hines Ward, listed as questionable with a hamstring injury, tried to practice but then stopped. Linebacker James Farrior, probable with a back injury, did not practice. The Steelers' injury report remained the same yesterday as issued Tuesday by Cowher.

Bettis may be in; Maddox, maybe out...  From "The REAL Feed":

Bettis might play Monday vs. Chargers
FOXSports.com :: NFL (08.10.2005 18:18)
Pittsburgh Steelers backup quarterback Tommy Maddox strained his right calf in practice and is doubtful for Monday night's game at San Diego.

Update - From "The REAL Feed":

Roethlisberger listed as doubtful

The Sports Network: NFL (12.10.2005 19:40)

After hearing the reports, this comes as a bit of a surprise...  When seeing the injury live, though, it does NOT.  That thing bordered on the grotesque... Another couple inches and it would have been.

It's amazing how someone injured and on the questionable list can bounce to probable in the face of having to start a guy like Batch!!!

It appears more and more likely that Hines Ward will miss this Sunday's game.  From "The REAL Feed":

Roethlisberger, Ward doubtful for Sunday
ESPN: NFL (14.10.2005 21:28)
Roethlisberger, Ward doubtful for Sunday by Associated PressPITTSBURGH -- Ben Roethlisberger apparently won't be the only key member of the Pittsburgh Steelers' offense on the sideline for Sunday's game against Jacksonville. Four-time Pro Bowl receiver Hines Ward may be there, too.

Roethlisberger set to return

Looks like Big Ben is set to return against The Bengals

I DIGRESS...
The Steelers claim Maddox has an injured shoulder. He will move to the 3rd QB behind Batch. ( He probably tore his rotator cuff opening the thousands of thank you cards from Jacksonville.

Roethlisberger out 1-2 weeks.  Batch to start.

link:
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05307/600100.stm

Excerpt:
Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had arthroscopic surgery this morning to "clean up" damaged cartilage in his right knee and will miss Sunday's game in Green Bay and possibly the Nov. 13 home game against the Cleveland Browns.

However, Roethlisberger should be ready to return when the Steelers play in Baltimore Nov. 20, if not sooner. Charlie Batch, who had been elevated to the No. 2 position, will be the starting quarterback Sunday.

Hmmmm...  This would be interesting if it actually came about...  Fantasy-wise, you could be looking at getting some funky-cool numbers out of a receiver...  From "The REAL Feed":

Steelers' Randle El ready if he has to step in at QB
ESPN: NFL (18.11.2005 13:36)
Randle El confident he can play NFL QB by Associated PressPITTSBURGH -- As the offensive linemen walked into a Steelers quarterbacks meeting for a game-simulation drill, the room seemed more crowded than usual. There was Ben Roethlisberger, injured and not expected to play Sunday in Baltimore...

Heres a really cool article on one player beating the long odds of making an NFL roster.

"The NFL admitted Monday that referee Pete Morelli was wrong to overturn an interception by Pittsburgh safety Troy Polamalu against the Colts on Sunday...."

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-0601170195jan17,1,887307.story? coll=chi-sportsnew-hed

If it weren't for that missed field goal....

------

And more:

"Shortly after the game, Morelli offered the following explanation:

'I had the defender catching the ball. Before he got up, he hit it with his leg with his other leg still on the ground. He never had possession with his leg up off the ground, doing an act common to the game of football. . . . Therefore, he did not complete the catch.'

Under league officiating procedure, an "act common to the game" is defined as controlling the ball long enough to hand it, pitch it or pass it. But Pereira noted that this definition only applies when there is "contact with a defensive player and the ball comes loose, which did not happen here.'
"
