Patriots In-season Report
« on: Sep 29th, 2005, 2:17pm »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

From "The REAL Feed":

NO REUNION FOR CROCKED HARRISON
Sporting Life: NFL (29.09.2005 12:39)
Rodney Harrison will not get a chance to renew acquaintances when New England host San Diego.

This is not breaking news at this point.  I'm just wondering how you guys might think this affects the quality of the Patriots D from a fantasy perspective if at all.  Are they more vulnerable up the middle now?  Can tight-ends and up-the-gut running backs be expected to have more success against the Pats now?  I'm thinking yes...  But, the Pats always seem to patch up the holes like new.  Thoughts?

Despite this being about an individual player, I think the relevance of this report is more for a team D/ST standpoint vis-a-vis an IDP one...  From "The REAL Feed":

Belichick: Bruschi to play, could start Sunday

ESPN: NFL (29.10.2005 17:04)
Belichick: Bruschi to play, might start Sunday by Associated PressThe New England Patriots activated linebacker Tedy Bruschi from the physically unable to perform list on Saturday afternoon, making him eligible to play in Sunday night's game against the Buffalo Bills. Coach Bill Belichick has sa...

Though Bruschi himself is probably not be a good play in IDP leagues yet... or for a while for that matter, he may make the Patriots a good start starting this week in leagues that field team D/ST.

Anyone know what the status will be for Dillon this week?  I'd sure like to snatch up Evans against the saints if he's out.

Sporting News reported that Corey Dillon was in street clothes on Thursday for the portion of practice that the media was allowed to attend.

I took out my bonehead post in answer to this to avoid causing confusion to any innocent victim.  Shows you how my week is going....(For anyone who didn't see it, I knee-jerked for quick response and answered as if he were talking about LEE Evans!   Worst part of it is, I put in a waiver request for HEATH Evans this week myself!    (Edit:  That wasn't clear, either.  I put in the request on purpose, because I will be around for the game time decision that I expect to hear about any minute now.....)

I felt bad that I hadn't been around the forums (I've been trying to do 2 1/2 week's worth of work in one week this week), but I shouldn't have tried actual forum typing in that condition.  My apologies if it aggravitated, and You're Welcome if you laughed your ass off as you should have!

UPDATES on RB's Dillon and Faulk... from "The REAL Feed":

Backs back? Pats' Dillon, Faulk close to returning
ESPN: NFL (30.11.2005 19:49)
Dillon, Faulk listed as day-to-day by Associated PressFOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Corey Dillon got his medical report from his coach. The running back was told by the secretive Bill Belichick that his status, at least for public consumption, is "day-by-day."  Dillon kept repeating that phrase Wednesday ...

This would definitely put a damper on the little "run" Evans and Pass were putting together.  That said, I still think there is something "more seriously" wrong with Dillon.  He hadn't been looking good even before the injury.  And, as for Faulk, I think either Evans and Pass or Evans or Pass bring something more "complete" to the table than him.  Point being, from a fantasy perspective, if your league has deep rosters and you have Evans and/or Pass on yours, I wouldn't go dropping them yet.

It's great to hold on to anyone you can.  But unless you have one heck of a bench, Pass has been getting the love in Dillon's absence, Cloud was dropped, and how much strategy do they need at RB against the Jets???  Dillon will show up as a gametime decision, if Dillon doesn't play Pass will get the ball, and Evans will only do something if for some reason they feel they need the surprise or choose to go RBBC - which is worse FF-wise.

Huh? I see this exactly opposite, BUT ultimately as virtually a 50-50 split.  But, if I had to choose one, I'd choose Evans.

Week 12:
Pass had 26 yds. rushing, a rushing TD and 1 reception for -2 yds. receiving.
Evans had 11 yds. rushing, no rushing TDs and 3 receptions for 25 yds. receiving.

Depends on if you are in a PPR league or a scoring only league, I guess.  In a standard scoring league, it just gets worse.  But in most scoring systems I know, Pass wins.

Week 11:
Pass had 53 yds. rushing and 2 receptions for 36 yds.
Evans had 74 yds. rushing and 2 receptions for 21 yds.

Evans may or may not have given you a bit more, depending on the scoring system.

Either way, neither one of them is much of a start.  I saw the games enough to know that Pass got the love.  Dillon may be back as a gametime decision this week as well, and we're talking Patriots.  I'm staying away from the whole mess.

Might QB Tom Brady have his consecutive-games-played streak come to an end...  From "The REAL Feed":

QB questionable with shin injury
SI.com: NFL (14.12.2005 19:31)

I think not... this week.  HOWEVER, if they clinch this week and their playoff position becomes fixed, I could see them resting Brady and give old-man Flutie some time over the last two weeks.

How about this crazy shit?  From "The REAL Feed":

Flutie converts NFL's first drop kick in modern era
SI.com: NFL (01.01.2006 16:48)

I've always wondered about the status of the drop kick in the NFL.  Now I know, I think...  I wonder if it can still be done for three points on a "regular" play.  In any event, it's still really cool! I just wish I didn't have the Bucs-Saints game on, which FOX had switched to from the Panthers-Falcons game here.  They had switched from the Chiefs-Bengals game to the Patriots-Dolphins game on CBS here.  Anyway, I can't wait to see it on ESPN tonight (even though it sounded like kind of a boring play)... How cool would it be on a "regular" play?  I've conjured up situations in my head where it could (make sense to) happen.

Did any of you see it live???
