Chargers In-season Report
« on: Oct 12th, 2005, 7:52pm »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

- From "The REAL Feed":

Brees termed questionable with calf injury, but expected to play
The Sports Network: NFL (12.10.2005 19:40)

So, will Rivers finally get his chance this Sunday?  The article suggests, "No."  But, we'll have to see,... so keep your eyes peeled...

The Raiders may be giving yardage up to QBs so far this season (ranked 5th), but they have only given up, on average, 1 passing TD per week so far (although they're giving up yardage to WRs).  And with the Raiders finally going back to the 4-3 defense as their base D, opposing QBs are having a much harder day.   The end game stand against the Cowboys showed that the Raider pass D is definitely improving.  In a division game, the Chargers may be smart to play Brees if there is any way possible to do it.

I would watch the injury reports about Brees very closely.  Rivers just does not have the experience, and the Raiders are no longer a walk-over in a situation like this.

A.J. Feeley traded to Chargers!

http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/12934734.htm

Does this mean that they don't see Rivers as ready to back up Brees?

Just checked the link before posting.  Requires a free sign-up.  If you don't want to bother, here is the short text:

The Dolphins traded third-string quarterback and former starter A.J. Feeley to San Diego on Tuesday.  The Dolphins received a draft pick and Chargers third-string quarterback Cleo Lemon.  The Dolphins will swallow $1.8 million in salary cap as part of the trade, absorbing much of the $3 million the team was under the cap for this season.  The Dolphins had acquired Feeley from Philadelphia in March of 2004.

I think the idea is to probably trade Rivers, or maybe Brees, next year...perhaps sooner.

A buddy of mine ,who was at the game in Indy yesterday said LT was in a lot of pain on the sidelines. He reinjured a set of already bruised ribs yesterday. Watch closely!

So much for all the bellyaching of this would-be 10-6 team... The '05 Chargers were the MOST overrated underrated team ever...  Yea, they lost some heartbreakers...  But, were they really any better than where they wound up???  Really???

UPDATE on QB Brees...  News, not terrible, BUT NOT good, either, as this IS his throwing shoulder (think no further than of Pennington)...  From "The REAL Feed":

Brees needs surgery on torn labrum
SI.com: NFL (02.01.2006 17:24)

How about the "bones" this FOUR-month anticipated period of recovery throws into their plans of letting Rivers go???

This headline has to send a little chill down the spines of keeper leaguers with Drew Brees on their rosters...  From "The REAL Feed":

Schottenheimer would like to have Brees back
SI.com: NFL (03.01.2006 21:49)

Emphasis on the words "would like"...

Whose "brain-child" was this? Ummmm... Brees's AGENT...  "Got his mind on his money and his money on his mind"... while his money-generating piece of meat looks forward to MONTHS of serious rehab...  Why can't agents slip and fall and sustain career-threatening injuries just once in a while? From "The REAL Feed":

Brees: Chargers want to work out long-term deal
ESPN: NFL (11.01.2006 20:24)
Brees, Chargers confirm desire to make long-term dealSAN DIEGO -- Drew Brees let the secret slip -- the San Diego Chargers would like to sign him to a long-term deal. Brees was discussing his shoulder surgery and rehab during a conference call with San Diego reporters on Wednesday when he wa...

...Yea, it "slipped"...  And, San Diego just had me in for tryouts... if you want another fat one...
