who to start? - week 12
« on: Oct 15th, 2005, 7:22pm »

12 team/3 division league tied for 2nd in 4 team division at 6-5 (2 games out of 1st w/ 2 games left and i hold the tiebreaker over the team i'm tied with but only 1/2 game above last)  just need to hold on to 2nd place to get into playoffs.  this week i play 3rd place team in another division but look at his lineup - P Manning, L Johnson, Portis, Shockey, Jurevicius, Dante Hall, Vinatieri, NYJ DEF.  not too worried i guess, cause last week i beat the team with LT2, Bulger, C Johnson, Galloway, Key Johnson.  And next week i get my division leader 8-3 who has an easy matchup this week.  so i need your almighty Gridiron advice once again.

scoring:  longer TD = more pts, also pts for rec/rush attempts, rec/rush yds, longer FG = more pts

A. need 1 - all have good matchups, tough call, in order of liking:

1. McNair  vs  SF
2. Favre  @  PHI
3. E Manning  @  SEA

B. need 3 - like i said before WW empty and i got screwed by my top gun TO, in order of liking:

1. Curtis  @  HOU (best matchup - will Martin get him the ball again?)
2. Evans  vs  CAR  (Losman favors Evans - good matchup at home if Losman starts)
3. Edwards  @  MIN  (which QB starting? - but has been getting more play lately)
4. Chambers  @  OAK  (no QB or real offense?)
5. Clayton  vs  CHI  (big bust and very bad matchup)

**I almost picked up Andre Davis (NE) last week and played him (60 yd TD catch) cause Troy Brown & Givens were out inj and other than Branch,  Davis was the other starting option.  well, Brown & Givens havent practiced yet this week - if they are out again would u try Davis as 3rd WR????  he plays @ weak KC pass D.

C. need 1 - longer FG's = more pts (50 yd = 11 pts), but FG's obviously are better than XP's (2 pts)

1. Elam  @  DAL (hurt but played fine last week and says he'll play thurs)  or
2. Bironas  vs  SF (will he get any FG tries?)

D. need 1

1. ATL  @  DET   or
2. CHI  @  TB

{OBFFL - 2004 Champs}: my other starters are:  RB - Dunn & Jordan, IDP - Freeney, HC - Coughlin

thanks for the advice.  KC.

Holt is a must start.  i would go with bell over brown.  bell is at home and should get the opportunities.  brown may lose carries to ricky.

i like baltimore's defense at home.  i think the titans offense has more life than browns.

moore and benson.  same reason as above to skip on brown this week.

lastly...

eli manning has played well all season.  got to ride him til he faulters. mcnair will play well but total points should go to manning.

i would not start michael clayton until he catches more than one pass per game.

tough call on defense.  both are solid so i don't think you can go wrong with either.  i think the vikings could totally blow up this week.  the saints may do the same but i have a feeling they will score points for some reason.  i would go with the bears on defense.

hope this helps and good luck!

I too agree with rick... almost 100%.  In L2, I would go with Brown over Moore.  I think the Vikes will end up having to abandon the running game early and they won't have done much against a tough Bears run D.  I see the Dolphins-Bucs game being a goodie.  I think the run will be a big part of this game... on both sides, but especially for the Dolphins.  There should still be enough touches to go around.  I see Brown still getting at least 15 overall, which will probably be about what Moore gets, at most.  Good luck!

week 7, still looking for answers but not as complicated as usual.

so far i did not do any trades (re: my other post about trade) and prob wont - at least this weekend.

scoring:   longer TD's = more pts, (+ pts for yds, recpt, rushes)

**options are in the order i'm thinking**

1. need 1 QB

Favre  @  MIN (he hasn't played well there, but he is still a stud coming off a bye and i think Minny                                                  is a bad team -  could be a shootout)
Eli Manning  vs  DEN (been much better at home)
McNair  @  ARI  (not even really an option with my other choices)

2. need 1 WR to go with Owens & Chambers:

Kevin Curtis  vs  NO
Lee Evans  @  OAK

3. need 1 defense:

CHI  VS  BAL
ATL  vs  NYJ

thanks for the advice.  KC.  Go Eagles!!

i like:
eli @ denver - i know it sounds crazy, but i think he'll fare better than those before him...
hard to say on wr - first response says curtis even though they'll spread it around - because it should be a hight scoring game...evans is probably due to get his chance - but based on advice given to me here, moulds and mcgahee are lookin' like security blankets for holcombe...
i think atlanta has more opportunity for points (turnovers) in their game than chi...good luck mate,
prm...

I too would go with Eli.  Who in God's name knows what the hell is going to happen in Minny this weekend?  As per my Broncos report (http://www.ffpro.com/teamreports/broncos/broncos-footballinfoframes.htm), the Broncos are very susceptible to the deep ball.  The only drawback would be if Plaxico doesn't end up playing.  I'd still take my chances.

At WR, again, along with prm, I would go with Curtis.  I think he explained it well enough.

At D/ST, however, I would go with Chicago.  Baltimore stinks and they're good.  Atlanta gave up 31 to and did squat against New Orleans last week, for goodness sake.

I actually like Favre   here instead of Eli. People like to talk about his poor play in dome games for some reason. Check the stats out for his last 3 domed stadium appearances and you will find he has done above average in them!! Minnesota sucks the root and Favre is a rested stud. You may get an INT or two, but I think he throws for 2+ scores!! As far as the others go....Curtis and Chicago get my two thumbs up here!!! good luck amigo!

Well, I'm about to confuse you even more.

Eli plays better at home and is playing the Bronco secondary.  Tiki has a bad matchup, so Eli will be needing to pass.  But Favre is healthy and does very well against the Vikes' pass rush.  (QB to TE from GB).  And his run game is finally back.  I think Favre goes absolutely CRAZY against the Vikes.

At WR, I would play Evans.  Moulds has to deal with CWood all afternoon.  Curtis is looking at a back-up QB.  I'd play Evans.

You have some nice options at D, but I would definitely go with CHI against the BAL O.

thanks for the advice guys.

still undecided about my 3rd WR.  seems to be a tossup between Evans and Curtis.

Bruce is out again, Holt has been downgraded to questionable, so Curtis seems to be a really good option.

Buf is playing Oak terrible pass defense but Moulds has been getting all the looks.  is it Evans turn this week?

going with:

QB: Favre
RB: Dunn, Jordan
WR: TO, Curtis, Chambers (already scored 21 pts for me Fri night)
K: Bironas
IDP: Freeney
DEF: CHI

hey guys, another week another win.  now 4-3 (with 3 wins in a row tied for 2nd in division).  thanks for last weeks advice.  i ended blowing out my opponent with the highest score in the league all season and vaulted into 1st place in total scoring for the season.

Favre (27), Dunn (18), Jordan (51), Chambers (21), Curtis (13), Owens (8), Bironas (16), CHI (11), Freeney (8), Head Coach Coughlin (5) = Total (178)

This week i'm leaving for Denver on Friday 12 noon so i need some early advice.
First Eagles road trip - can't wait!  Go Eagles!!

anyway, since i never made a trade so i only have one true starting RB this week so here are my lineup options (scoring - longer TDs = more pts):

QB:  (need 1)
1.  Favre  @  CIN
2.  E.Manning  vs  WAS
3.  McNair  vs  OAK

RB:  (need 2)
1.  Jordan  @ TEN   ** definite starter**
2.  Henry  vs  OAK  (prob my only option to play)
3.  Gore  vs  TB  (nice run last wk, still the backup but could get in late when they are getting killed like last week)

WR:  (need 3)
1.  TO  @  DEN  **definite starter**
2.  Chambers  @  NO
3.  Michael Clayton  @  SF  (injury?)
4.  Curtis  vs  JAX
5.  Edwards  @  HOU  (injury?)
6.  Evans  @  NE

K:   Bironas
DEF:  CHI
Head Coach:  Coughlin

***IDP:  Freeney (*bye*) - have to grab someone off waivers, how would u rank these guys this week? (scoring: sack or INT = 5 pts, forced fumble = 3 pts, 5 tackles = 1 pt, def TD's 1-50 yds = 12 pts, 51+ yds = 15 pts):

DE/DT (go for sacks, fumbles)

Rice (TB)  @  SF  (great matchup)
Rucker (CAR)  vs  MIN
Spicer  or Hayward (JAX)  @  STL
Howard (NO)  vs  MIA

or go Safety and hope for a pick TD:

Will Allen (TB)  @  SF
Roy Williams (DAL)  vs  ARI
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
this is what my opponents team (my brother) looks like this week. He is only 1-6 but his lineup actually kinda scares me this week (well his QB and RB's).
QB: McNabb @ DEN, Delhomme vs MIN (start 1)
RB: C Brown vs OAK, R Brown @ NO, S Jackson vs JAX  (start 2)
WR: Houshman vs GB, Kennison @ SD, Lelie vs PHI, G Lewis @ DEN, Randle El vs BAL  (start 3)
K: Rackers @ DAL, Feely vs WAS (start 1)
DEF: PIT vs BAL, NYG vs WAS (start 1)
Headcoach: DEN, MIN  (start 1)
sorry so long.  any advice is appreciated.  thanks.
KC.  Go Eagles!!
4.  Curtis  vs  JAX
5.  Edwards  @  HOU  (injury?)
6.  Evans  @  NE
by process of elimination i would choose the following:
qb-manning.  favre should have a tough week on the road with no supporting cast.  mcnair is beat up and therefore scares me a bit.
rb-henry for certain if we find out he is starting.  tampa bay's defense is tough to run against and sf will be playing from behind so gore is a no no.
wr-chambers and curtis.  chambers is head and shoulders above the rest and curtis will either be the #1 or #2 receiver for the rams.  he has much better stats than the remaining choices.
one thing i am looking at for rb is dillon is questionable again this week.  if we can drag any info out of the patriots, patrick pass might be a good plug-in.
good luck!
QB - McNair, by a good margin, assuming he plays; if not, Manning.
RB - Believe it or not, I'd take a flyer on Gore; he can run the ball and he may get some late-game garbage love as you suggest; I just don't like Henry right away.
WR - I'd go with Chambers and Evans; Edwards would have been a close third, injury notwithstanding, but the uncertainty at QB has to make one shy away.
Good luck!
My two cents   here kec! I'd personally go with Favre at QB. GB will be playing from behind so they will throw often.  I also think Chatman is a better #2 than Ferguson was, so the passing game improved in my opinion......Henry and Gore are a coin flip I lean to Henry if he starts.......Chambers and Curtis at WR. True, Curtis is catching balls from Martin, but he is healthy and that's something!!!
thanks for the quik response guys.
i was leaning towards Favre or McNair.
i think Favre will probably have to throw a heck of alot more the rest of the season with no run game.  Prob more INT's but should be plenty of TD's too.
McNair has a great matchup if he is healthy to play.
At RB i was leaning towards Henry.  its tough cause he's just coming back but i think he might get in there possibly at the goal line plus Brown isnt 100%, although TEN does have Payton too.
----
what do u think about Marion Barber vs ARI??  reports are that J Jones will be out again this week and that Barber gets the start.
like i said before, WW is slim or no pickins.  Even Fisher, Pass, Stecker - all gone.  and i'm 11th in waiver order this week so Barber might not even be there for me.
at WR i was leaing towards TO (obvious)and i like Curtis & Chambers, but Clayton @ SF and Edwards @ HOU, both have excellent matchups and neither is listed on the injury report this week.  Clayton has been injured but Edwards did play last week - he might be a nice sleeper.   They play 2 of the worst teams in the league.
----
i might take a chance on TO, Curtis & Edwards
any thoughts on the IND defensive player choices i have??
thanks again.  KC
Favre -
McNair is a gamble, even if he starts.  Who knows if he is going to be get a shot in the back that will knock him out of the game.  There could be a huge payoff is McNair starts.  There is a lot of risk with this potential payoff.  If you want a safer bet, you should go with Favre.  He is putting up good numbers and he will be throwing a fair amount.
Henry -
He will probably splits carries with Brown, if Brown plays the whole game.  There is a good chance that Brown will not make it through the game without aggrevating his stinger.  My basic understanding of these injuries is that they result from impact on on the shoulder.  It is a nervous injury and is very easily aggrevated.  I would bet that Brown will not play consistently for the rest of the season.  In short, Henry could be the only guy running the ball by the start of the second half.
TO, Chambers and Curtis -
Evans is a deep threat on a team that cannot pass block and that has a quarterback who cannot throw downfield.  The Raiders secondary spoke about how they did not worry about the deep ball against the Bills because Holcomb cannot air it out.  You all saw the results of that game.  Evans is very talented but the Bills offense is not.  Injuries to the other two guys makes  the decision easier.  Also, Chambers is a solid receiver and Crutis is a threat to break one deep.
Lumber, good call on the WR's even though i didnt play Curtis (22pts).  i also got M. Barber off WW and he scored 40 pts but i took a shot on Clayton (2pts) against SF - big mistake plus i stayed with Favre who just flat out sucked it up -- do u believe he actually got me (5 pts)!!  i thought i was in the negative with 5 INT's.
anyway, needing to win, i of course lost to the worst team in the league by 24 pts.  if i had played McNair (17 pts) AND Curtis (22pts) i would have won by 8.  i also had Simeon Rice for my IDP cause Freeney was on bye and found out after gametime that he had been suspended and deactivated  -- unbelievable!
well, i dont have much choice for week 9 in this league, so this is what i am going with:
QB: Eli Manning
RB: Dunn, Jordan
WR: TO, Chambers, Edwards
K: Bironas
DEF:  CHI
IDP: Freeney
Rest of my roster -- Favre, McNair, M Barber (bye), Henry, Gore, Michael Clayton, Evans (bye), Curtis (bye), ATL Def
but could use some help for another league ----
L2a) need a QB:
Hass  @  ARI   or  Leftwich  vs  HOU
L2b) need a 3rd WR:
Harrison  @  NE (**Definite starter**)
Mushin  @  NO  (**definite starter**)
Antonio Bryant  vs  TEN
Roy Williams  vs  DET
L3) need 2 RB's, 2 WR's and 1 Flex out of these 6 players for another league:
Dunn  @  MIA
Ronnie Brown  vs  ATL
Moore  VS  DET
Fitzgerald  VS  SEA
R Moss  @  KC  (**definite starter**as long as he is playing)
Burress  @  SF  (**definite starter**)
thanks for the advice.  KC.  Go Eagles!!
thanks guys.
one additional question about L3 from week 9 post.
in that league i have Plummer (bye).  McCown was my backup - now benched.
not many options on WW so i'm trying to decide between Warner (1st game back) and Brad Johnson (1st game in a long time).
i have Fitzgerald on my roster so should i just go with Warner and hope for the double dip or can Johnson handle DET at home???
Warner  vs  SEA    or   Johnson  vs  DET
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
QB: Plummer (bye)
RB: Dunn, R Brown, Moore, A Smith
WR: Burress, R Moss, Fitzgerald, Brandon Jones (inj)
K: Feely
DEF:  TB, PHI
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
thanks again.
Go with Johnson.  Warner is playing the Seattle D, and they should just sack and pick him all day long, especially with that ARI O line.  The DET corners can't stop everyone, so Johnson should have a very serviceable day.
I agree 100% with Steg!!  For your other question..go with Brad Johnson over Warner. Good luck!!
As Callie said, though, "serviceable" is the word.
sorry for last minute questions but hopefully some of my knowledgeable fantasy friends are still watching the red zone this morning.
L1) these are my choices in order of my liking right now.  i lost TO so its not looking real good for my WR core.  Need 3:
Chambers  vs  NE
Evans  vs  KC
Finneran  vs  GB
Curtis  @  SEA  (Holt & Bruce back)
Edwards  @  PIT  (bad, bad matchup)
M Clayton  vs  WAS  (inj)
E Manning*, Favre, McNair, Dunn*, Jordan*, Suggs, Henry, Barber, Elam, CHI*, ATL, Freeney*
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
L2) Need to start 5 (2 RB, 2 WR & 1 Flex):

Dunn  vs  GB
R Brown  vs  NE
Moore  @  NYG
Fitzgerald  @  DET
Burress  vs  MIN
R Moss  vs  DEN

Plummer*, B Johnson, A Smith, B Jones, Feely*, TB*

this part is actually easy - start all Except Moore but the second part of the question is --
Would Duce Staley vs the lowly Browns be a better one week fill in instead of maybe R Brown?  he is avail on WW.
i like the 3 WR matchups and Dunn has been a stud even with Duckett playing so R Brown is the only ?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
L3)  Need to start 5 (2 RB, 2 WR, 1 flex):
R Brown  vs  NE
T Bell  @  OAK
K Jones  vs ARI
R Moss  vs  DEN
Holt  @  SEA
Jurevicius  vs  STL
Palmer, Frerotte*, Toomer, Elam*, NYG*, CIN
tough decision- who do i take out this week?
thanks alot.  KC.  Go Eagles!!   (minus TO)
Well, lets see here.
L1) Chambers, Finneran, and Curtis.
L2) Bench Moore
L3) Bench R. Brown
L2 and L3 for matchup reasons and L1 because those are the best of the bunch.
