Which receivers to start?
« on: Nov 12th, 2005, 1:17pm »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

I have 4 receivers, since TO is out I need to decide which two to start:

Hines Ward
Kevin Curtis
Reggie Brown
Ernest Wilford

Any ideas?

Right now I have Hines Ward and Curtis, assuming Isaac Bruce does not play this week.

Not a whole lot of difference among them this week by the match-ups!  But I'd go in this order:

Ward, only because of the CLE pass D being what it is.  He has Batch this week, though.

Wilford, CIN got the BAL secondary with Reed out.  Jones & Smith have to be covered, too.

Brown, DAL gives up big plays to WRs.

Curtis, Bulger is back but they're playing in Seattle.  And like you said, will Bruce start?  Gotta admit that if Bruce is out, I would be tempted to play him as one of the two, because it should be a shoot-out.

Good luck, but at least you have a WR corps!

First off, brother, to "the Gridiron"!  You've joined a real community here.  I look forward to seein' ya 'round and gettin' to know ya.

Now, regarding your query,...

I would DEFINITELY use Brown,... especially with L.J. Smith questionable.  Kid looks to be the real deal.

After that, I would go with your money guy, the guy who you probably spent a high draft pick on, Ward.

Wilford is still too much of an unknown (to me) for my tastes, and I don't like Curtis this week with Holt and Bruce coming back, and Bulger returning and probably being a bit rusty.

Best of luck, whatever you decide!

Thanks Steg,

I picked up Wilford when TO was suspended and used him once when I had no other options. You are right, he is too much of an unknown to start, although  he did get 20 pts and 14 the last 2 weeks. I'll hold on to him for a bit and see what he does the next few games.

I was almost tempted to bench ward after that one pt performance last week, but I know that the minute I do he will go off for 20!

Ditto on the   Brian.  Guess I missed the fact that you were a first time post last night. Post here often and use all the tags and smilies for added fun!! I still believe Williford will once again be the man in Jax for 3 weeks running!! As an owner of Jimmy Smith in my money league, I really do hate to have to say that

i like

Ward -  good matchup against bad team even though his QB does scare me

Wilford - been getting the looks and making the plays, BAL defense is beat up and missing a few of their studs.

Curtis -  Holt & Bruce are both back plus with new coach Jackson has been running more so i think his time will be limited.

Brown -  looked good last week but LJ is supposed to play and they picked up Chad Lewis and w/o TO McNabb will spread the ball around alot more - if he even has time to throw -- now he has a rookie center to deal with also.

I would avoid Curtis this week with Holt and Bruce back.  I'm also not sold on Wilford yet.

I would start Ward because he will throw up nice #'s in CLE.  I would also start Brown.  He will get his looks on Monday night!!

Sorry for the double post.

It appears Bruce will play a limited role today, so I may start Curtis. I just need a consistent 10 pts from a WR today. The guy I am playing as Ladain Tomlinson on a bye this week, thank god! Otherwise I would be in trouble. Here's my lineup

Favre  QB
Tiki Barber RB
Lamont Jordan RB
Curtis WR
Ward WR
Heath  TE
Lawrence Tynes K
Dallas Defense

If you decide to play Curtis, bench Ward, NOT Brown.  ...  McNabb, Monday night, under the lights, L.J. Smith banged-up, best other wideout option is Lewis,... Brown is set to have a BIG game.  Whether or not he has one,... my crystal ball is a bit cracked.  BUT, just by way of good old-fashioned reasoning skills, it can be seen that this guy is in a FANTASTIC sitch...

Thanks for the advice. I actually did put Brown in. With Holt and Bruce back I am worried that Curtis wont get as many passes thrown his way.

I figure the eagles wont have much success running against the Dallas D ( 5th in the NFL against the run), so will be forced to air it out.

I still have Ward in, and am hoping he has a good game against Cleveland.
