Simms and Harrington...

Questions ABOUND...  What are you guys' takes on these two?  Will they make it... through this year?  Will they make it... in the long-run?  Will Harrington stave off Garcia for the remainder of this season?  If he does, is he really still their future?  Does he hold Garcia off next year?  Will Simms hold off Rattay(/McCown) for the rest of the season?  And, if he does, will he keep Griese on the bench, assuming he's healthy, next year?  Was this past week an aberration... or a trend(-setter)?  What do yous think?

Personally, I think Rattay was brought it just to be a backup, period.
Simms is the future for TB.  Even if he is (Griese) healthy for next year, he most likely will backup for Simms.  Chris needed to learn from somebody.  And since they didn't have a veteran QB when they picked Simms, they acquired Griese and he actually ended up playing pretty damn good.  Hence, him being the starter until he got hurt.  Griese will backup Simms next year, and Rattay will be sent the the WW.

Harrington, has always been the Lions hopeful for the future.  Garcia is not going to be much more than a backup/starter for this season.  If Garcia is healthy, he will start next week.  Then they will release him during the off-season and trade off Harrington for a high draft pick to pick up another young hopeful.

Just my opinion.

You're probably right regarding the Tampa Bay situation.  I still question how good Simms really is and, thus, how long that will really remain the case, BUT, in any event, I do think that what you say is the case as it currently stands.

I think with this analysis, though, you are missing the aspect of "real" personal relations.  Garcia is Mariucci's boy.  They are "friends",... you know,... like in real life, like "have you over for dinner with the family" type friends.  It's a "Dick Vermeil-Eddie Kennison" type situation.  If anything, I think Harrington by playing well this past week bought more time for Garcia to heal up a little bit more for another week (or two or whatever) while Harrington starts.  It's actually next year when I think Garcia will get the knod (going into the season).  So, I guess I see it quite the contrary...  I see Garcia's immediate value being rather low (right now, post Week 10) while I see his longer-term value as being fairly decent.

I did not put the "Mooch"   love factor into the Garcia equation.  HOWEVER Jeff is 35 yrs. old and not getting any younger.  and Mullen LOVES is rookies.  So I seriously doubt that Jeff will make it after this year IMO after breaking his leg this year, knee last year, knee two years ago, etc.....  He's more liability than he is worth.  If nothing else, they MAY keep him around to mentor another rookie QB but shit, that's why they brought over the Mooch.  To try and wing Harrington.  So

Big deal.  I never debated that he wasn't going to be the starter this year.

Your question was:

If he does, is he really still their future?  Does he hold Garcia off next year?

I think I already gave my opinion for NEXT year.
