Len Pasquarelli, of ESPN.com, reports the New York Giants have reached a deal on a four-year contract with free agent CB Sam Madison (Dolphins). The deal is worth $7.4 million and includes a $2 million signing bonus. He will have base salaries of $900,000 (2006), $1.2 million (2007), $1.5 million (2008) and $1.8 million (2009). By gaining four or more interceptions in a year, he can receive $250,000 through incentives.

Defensive back R.W. McQuarters, who played last season for the Detroit Lions, agreed to three-year, $6 million deal with the New York Giants. The deal includes a $2 million signing bonus.

McQuarters, an eight-year veteran, has 12 career interceptions with San Francisco, Chicago and Detroit. He started all 16 games for the Lions last season and had two interceptions and 60 tackles.

Giants:  Harris provides extra safety
The News

The Giants signed safety Quentin Harris to a two-year deal on Monday, Newsday reported. Financial terms were not disclosed. Harris, 29, spent the last four seasons with the Cardinals.

Harris is a solid special teams player, and he adds some much-needed depth to the team's secondary. The Giants have been adding warm bodies in an effort to find some able backups to projected starting safeties Gibril Wilson and James Butler.

Yeah, they sure did add depth. They'll lose Allen, and who knows about the health of Peterson. Webster will start at one CB slot, Madison at the other. Demps is likely the FS, with Gabril Wilson the holdover at SS. McQuarters will be the nickel. Bell and Harris provide much needed depth.

Draft update from a LOCAL source on "The REAL Feed":

Giants focusing on talent, not need
Newsday.com: New York Jets (25.04.2006 11:09)
Ernie Accorsi said Thursday that the Giants were not locked into taking a linebacker with the 25th overall pick in Saturday's NFL draft. "If we have a player that's decidedly higher-rated, we're going to pick the player that's higher-rated," he said.

I DIGRESS...
Fun stuff from "The REAL Feed"...

    Condi, Tiki tradeNFL draft notes
New York Daily News: Sports - Football (02.05.2006 11:00)
WASHINGTON - Over a lunch of balsamic glazed sirloin, Giants running back Tiki Barber and Secretary of State Rice chewed over the details yesterday of the recent NFL draft.

Tiki's a smart guy...  I always knew he leaned "right"... and, further evidencing that he is a class act,... into the lap of Condi Rice, a University of Denver graduate (BA, PhD).  He hasn't got the hots for the old girl,... does he??? Honestly, though, from an intellectual perspective, I wouldn't blame him...  She's got the pedigree,... eh-hem,... to boot.

Interesting take on Giants interior defensive line... from "The REAL Feed":

Giants' defensive tackles won't get it done in 2006
NFL News: RealFootball365.com (17.05.2006 03:31)
The New York Giants are regarded by most as one of the NFC's biggest contenders, but their weakness at the defensive tackle position may hinder them from reaching their ultimate goal in 2006.

You know what they say about self-praise...  From "The REAL Feed":

Notebook: Believe it when Coughlin says Giants will be good
CBS SportsLine.com - Columns by Pete Prisco (08.06.2006 20:08)
Tom Coughlin is known for straight-up assessments of his teams. Pete Prisco says the coach, who is not given to false praise, is touting his Giants as a team that just might build on its 2005 NFC East crown.
